Curency Converter Pro
This module has a bug, April 25, 2008

Curency Converter Pro As supplied this module has a bug. If you install the module and put in the left column it will show the site but only up to the point at which this module is displayed. Afterwards however, it stops the rest of your website from appearing leaving you with a blank screen elsewhere.

Initially, having found this problem I put it in the right hand column right at the very bottom. It was then OK as my site had already been drawn prior to reaching this module. So you can use it as is, as long as you put it as the very last module on the right hand column...

Looking at the code I see that it uses the tag but it does not close it off properly
You need to edit /modules/mod_exchangerates.php

It is not the prettiest of modules and you will have to modify the colours and layout yourself using your Dreamweaver/Frontpage skills.

Apart from these niggles and glitches, it does the job and as such I would recommend it. If the glitch could be fixed for the next version and some configuration added to allow you to set the default currencies to convert then it would be a worthwhile and useful module.

Currency Converter
Does not work, April 23, 2008

I am experiencing the same problem, installs but nothing happens, no back end configuration, nothing. Something wrong somewhere, removed it immediately. I would recommend you look elsewhere until the install problem is repaired, when some documentation is provided and finally when the download site problems are resolved.

Image Thumbnail Viewer
does the job neatly, April 15, 2008
0 of 1 people find this review helpful:

This simple mambot works by inserting a mos tag in place of your current image. As long as you have a large and small version of the image the small will be used as a thumbnail and the large one will be displayed when you click on it.

It is what I needed and it worked when another mambot I had tried did not.

LxMenu - DHTML menu
Look no further, April 3, 2008

If it is a simple to install, simple to configure, simple to use menu tool you are looking for then look no further. This tool works well for simple drop down menus with simple colour matching to allow you to match it to your existing template.

VirtueMart
 first class, March 18, 2008
0 of 1 people find this review helpful:

VirtueMart I have been highly critical of some joomla extensions in the past. I also had a few problems with Virtuemart, these were mostly configuration issues that have been resolved by someone else. I mostly found the answers in the forum after a good bit of searching which took time and effort.

But despite what I have just said, I now have to say that Virtuemart when it is configured and working is really first class.

For me the issues that set the component back were the way it displayed in Firefox and IE. both different, but resolved by removing some unwanted code, trivial but time consuming for me - and not for the uninitiated or code-wary.

Would like some of the functionality that exists in OSCommerce, for example, being able to see which users are currently looking at the shop, what they are looking at &c. Would also like better display of categories and multi category products. The back end needs a bit of TLC with regard to product configuration and import/export. Mixing real items with downloads appears difficult to set up. The configuration of tax was not easy nor was shipping but it all worked in the end.

Despite all these niggles it is still first class, as it works and it is free!

PayPal Pro UK Express Checkout Virtuemart Module
This module does the job, March 2, 2008

PayPal Pro UK Express Checkout Virtuemart Module I installed this module and the earlier version had a few minor niggles in the configuration and documentation, these have since been fixed. It works exactly as expected and the current version is easy to configure and use.

If you want support then this company is very good for bug-fixing and turnaround of issues. You should have no problems installing and using this module.

sh404SEF
Sudedenly stopped working!, March 1, 2008

sh404SEF This review would have recommended SH404SEF as an excellent product if for some unknown reason the SH404SEF product hadn't suddenly decided to stop working. The site was one that had lain untouched for a few weeks when it decided to refer to pages that were unknown and then generated php database errors. It was not my joomla site that was causing errors, it was the SH404SEF... I tried everything I could but it would not work. I uninstalled it and turned off cache-ing and the site was running again, although without SEF optimised URLs.

I installed Artio SEF which is a very similar product with a similar front end, SEF was back on again. I had to pay £9 for the commercial Virtuemart extension. That in itself had a few problems during the installation and configuring but once it was upgraded it worked a treat.

I need SEF for my site. I thought that SH404SEF was a very good product but for me it has caused a serious website problem which I could not hang around to fix. I had previously abandoned SH404SEF on another site when I could not get it to install and run correctly, no matter what I tried. I think I will be installing Artio's JoomSEF product from now on.

SH404SEF is good but it has a few flaws, the review states the product is average because of these flaws.

Does not work for me, February 20, 2008

This product did not work for me.
First of all I made the same mistake as others assuming that the id that was required was the product SKU. Then after removing the bot and reading the reviews I realised my mistake. After reinstalling however and adding the following to the content {addtocart:id=1}, I re-published the bot and still there was nothing on the content page.

I still do not where to find the product IDs, they are not shown in my version of VM. So I defaulted to product ID 1, it seemed logical that it should exist but it showed nothing, I tried {addtocart:id=01} and {addtocart:id=03}
and {addtocart:id="1"} all to no avail.

This bot doesn't seem to do anything...

Inline Products for Virtuemart
good module for VM items in your content, February 20, 2008
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:

Inline Products for Virtuemart This is a good module for placing VM items in your content.

It needs to have a few more options though, such as

picture on/off
price on/off
text to show

As it is, it shows a stock small image, add to cart text and price of the item. All good but not exactly what I was after in one of my shops. It needs to be a little more configurable.

Otherwise, a good product. I tried the Virtuemart Add to Cart Mambot and it did not work at all. This mambot does what it states it should.

JAccelerator
errors!!! had to remove, February 17, 2008

JAccelerator I really liked this product, the concept is good, the configuration is a breeze and for 20 minutes it worked a treat!

Then I started receiving MOS_content errors, same as in a previous review. Had to immediately remove the component from the site. A real pity as it seemed to be just what I wanted.

Keep an eye on this product and try it out on a not-so-important site to see if it works for you. Maybe future releases will fix the errors, I DO hope so as I still really want to use this tool.
