pollXT
Exactly What I Was Looking For!, May 3, 2007
2 of 2 people find this review helpful:

pollXT I thought this was going to be a minor extension of the standard polls component (which quite frankly is useless) but it's not! It's a features-rich component allowing to you run and manage a complete voting system. Many options available, I really like the fact that you can set the start and end time of the polls. You can check for uniqueness by user name, IP address and/or cookies too.

There literally isn't (to the best of my knowledge) a component out there that even attempts to do the same thing.

It's a shame the email authentication is only for registered users who are logged in as an email verification system would be perfect for me, then you could run a "one vote per email address per poll" system.

Joom!Fish - multilingual content manager
Simple, Solid, Intuitive, April 25, 2007

Joom!Fish - multilingual content manager A very impressive component! It does exactly what it says it does and it does it well. It's so simple to operate/maintain (very intuitive) and appears to be a very solid component.

I've not had the need to use any form of multi-language extension for Joomla! till now and I thought that evaluating this one would take a lot longer but it's plain to see that it is exactly what I require, straight out of the box.

myContent
 Excellent!, December 4, 2006

myContent I came across this component by complete chance (literally about 10 minutes ago) while looking for language related extensions and I liked the sound of it so instantly installed it.

PERFECT! Stunningly simple, does exactly what it says it does and now I can use this component instead of making a million and one section specific "edit" links on the usermenu. Also it's much easier to write user documentation that says "...go to the 'add/edit content' link on the User Menu..." than telling them to browse around the site to find the relevant content to edit or section/category list view to find a "new" link.

The only thing that would make me even more impressed would be the ability to limit the sections a 'special' user could add content to according to user group (Author/Editor/Publisher) etc... or even if there was an option to limit the sections to all users using the component. Unless I'm missing something that's not currently possible.

Top job!

ARTIO JoomSEF
 Great Component, November 8, 2006

ARTIO JoomSEF This does exactly what it says it does right out of the box! All you have to do is change your HTAccess file as per the instructions (uncomment a few lines of code that let's third party SEF components work with Joomla!) and you're away.

However, it also allows for further customisation, so URLs can be EXACTLY what you want them to be for each page, improving not only your site's exposure to search engines but also making things much more friendly for your visitors. Also helps to hide the fact that you are using Joomla! which you might want to do for security reasons.

Thyme
Absolutely fantastic component!, September 12, 2006

Thyme First commercial licence Joomla! extension I've used, and it's well worth every penny.

Both pre and post sale support is excellent via the support forums and the responses to our email queries were very rapid indeed.

It's so feature-packed that this is definitely a "sit down and go through it step by step" component as there is just so much to it, it's such a powerful application in its own right, however integrates into Joomla! seamlessly and effortlessly.

The 30 day full-feature trial is very handy – gives you plenty of time to decide if it's the package for you!

With a little bit of research, I couldn't find anything out there that came close.

joomlaXplorer
Should be standard with every Joomla! Installation, June 22, 2006

joomlaXplorer Another of my essential components that I install immediately with every new Joomla! site. Gets around the annoying file permission/ownership issues that currently exists in Joomla!.

Another one of my essential Joomla! extensions!, June 22, 2006

This is one of the first things I install on a new Joomla! site.

To restore a file/x number of files – FTP them back to the webserver, what could be simpler? As long as the directories you want to backup are under the Joomla! root then they'll be backed up too (if you what them to be, you can always unselect them from the list of what will be backed up) even if they have nothing to do with Joomla!, which can be quite useful.

I use server backups too, if something goes very wrong, then I'll use that to restore a site. However, when (and it does happen) a component config file becomes corrupt or one of the site users does something silly, this component literally saves me hours of valuable time. You could quite easily do a complete site restore with this component, as you get the entire file set and a database dump as well.

Extended Menu
This is an absolutely fantastic extension!, June 7, 2006

I've been working with Joomla! for a few months now and have found many useful and impressive third party extensions but until now been too lazy/busy to leave a review. This module is fantastic and very powerful indeed. It really is the most impressive and potentially useful extension I've come across to date.

Please ignore previous reviews stating how complicated this module is. Within 5 minutes (literally) of downloading the core module and an example template (the horizontal suckerfish variant) I had a working dropdown menu system on my test site, working perfectly in both Firefox and MS Internet Exploder.

I found everything to be very simple and intuitive, you just need to take 5 minutes out of your day to read the "install" paragraph on the developer's website. The module, however, can get very complicated and in-depth by the looks of it, allowing you to use it as a very powerful and highly customisable tool on any Joomla! website, but to get started it really is very simple.

Highly recommended! I can see myself using this more and more in the future, it's going to be so very useful, no, essential!
