Joomla Magic Updater
Freaking awsome, November 16, 2008 |
I haven't used the phrase "freaking awesome" since the 1990's, but I dusted it off and am using it here because I am totally impressed with this extension.
I updated from Joomla 1.5.7 to Joomla 1.5.8 in I think less than 5 seconds using Joomla Magic Updater. Even better, whenever there is an official update you see a flashing notification in your admin panel.
Freaking awesome! This component is BAD (BTW, BAD means "Good" in 2008)
LOL,:)

sh404SEF
Works great. Tiny quirk when moving site, September 29, 2008 |
First of all I love this component. But a little alert to keep in mind if you move your site to another domain (for example using Joomlapak).
If a .haccess file already exists in the new site, make sure you overwrite it with the .htaccess site you have moved it from.
I had a case where the .htaccess file would not let itself be overwritten and (of course) sh404SEF did not work. I got a bunch of 404 errors. Not sure what was going on I finally opened the .htacess file and it was blank. So I copied and pasted the .htacess file from the prior installation (actually just the default .htaccess file) and it all started working again.
The issue had nothing to do with a bug in sh404SEF, just that the new hosting company had permissions set on the .htacces file set so it could not be overwritten.
I will put this post on the s404SEF forum, but thought it would be helpful to post it here too.

Component listing mudule
No more component Drop Down Menu nonsense, August 26, 2008 |
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
Get this module and install it right away. It is so much easier than the built in component drop down module. It creates a simple slist that you just click on. What could be easier.
Just a tip. In the module manager be sure to click on the Administrator tab to see the module. Enable it and as the author says, publish it to the cpanel position.
You will thank the author for this module every time you need to access the component list. And you will thank me for this glowing, much-deserved review that encouraged you to install it.

Easy Search
Yes -- it finds the article -- fast, August 24, 2008 |
This is such a timesaver. I found it by accident. It makes it easy to find and then edit whatever article / story you have in the system.
Would be nice if there was a front end module for access to people below manager.
I'm installing this in all my sites.

MosPasswort - protect content with a password
This works very nicely for content items, August 6, 2008 |
It's so simple, at first I could not figure out how to use it.
So here's what you do.
Suppose you have the following content on a page. But you want to protect it.
Like the following "I am in love with Joomla"
Once you activate the mambot you type {password I am in love with Joomla}
Presto. It's protected by the password you set in the mambot.
Simple but works nicely!

mosiframe for Joomla 1.5
Better than Joomla 1.5's wrapper. Here's why, June 18, 2008 |
I needed to wrap an external webpage in a content page.
When I used Joomla's wrapper menu item feature I could not add leading intro text to lead into the wrapper.
This little utility makes it real easy. You just install the plug-in and activate it. Then in your content article you just add the following simple paramentes: {iframe}http://www.rowby.com{/iframe}
Of course you can add intro text, etc.
An important tip. As with all snippets, make sure your text is clean. Best to copy your paramenters from notepad, to make sure you don't hsve "hidden formatting" included in your link.
I wanted to make a paypal donation to the author, but the paypal system said that te Paypal system in his country could only send payments and not receive them at this time.

LxMenu - DHTML menu
Especially for horitonal menu & many features, February 1, 2008 |
Before LxMenu I was having great difficulty setting up a horitonal menu. This component did it for me nicely. I have the pro version and it has many features. I've tried other menu systems but this one is my favorite so far. Many paramaters to customize the menu in the component, such as background, highlight, padding, image background, highlight delay, etc. Well thought through, and the author provided helpful personal support when I had a question.
I highly recommend XLmenu, and in my case the Pro version.

Works nicely, July 3, 2006 |
You edit /modules/mod_scrollv.php in your web or text editor. It accepts so I was able to have multiple lines of text separated by the .
You can also adjust the styles (font, border, etc in the mod_scrollv.php file.
