Jumi
 Great work, May 2, 2008

Jumi Powerful set of features while avoiding scope creep. Fast, easy-to-use, and to the point. Nice attention to detail, such as adding a handy notes field for quick configuration reminders.

Simple Image Gallery
 A winner!, February 1, 2008

Simple Image Gallery Pros
1. Good, clean code
2. Nice layout
3. Easy installation
4. Plenty of documentation

Cons
1. There can only be one image caption, which is displayed for all images.

Joom!Fish - multilingual content manager
 Awesome Contribution, July 16, 2007

Joom!Fish - multilingual content manager Just completed my first English/Japanese site. Setting up JoomFish and copying in the translated text for the entire site to well less than an hour.

All feature are working bug-free so far. Client is thrilled! Thanks to JoomFish I have a new Joomla convert.

Big thanks to the developers for GPL'ing such a powerful, and well-written component. I will be donating to this project.

I don't understand the previous review. I saw no ads or inappropriate 'callbacks.' Actually, a 'callback' if you want to call it that, is the whole point.

This extension feeds live Google data to your site, complete with rich user interaction. That's a powerful feature.

Google's Web Services, and free APIs, are a great example of where cutting edge Web systems are headed. This extension puts your site on the map (pun intended.

Random Quotes Module
Nice start, but needs cleaning up., July 27, 2006
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:

Random Quotes Module Pros
====
Simple to setup

Follows reasonable Joomla coding and security guidelines.

You can choose to display one or multiple quotes.

You can choose random quotes for each page load or each day.

Deals correctly with blank lines in the text file.

Cons
====
Has an undocumented, hardcoded style tag.

Only works with text files. Would be good to add a db option.

Unable to parse authors, sources, etc.

If the quotes file is not found, the script will DIE(!) and send an error message to the browser! Very bad move for a non-critical module. Better to silently abort.

Has some nice params within the script that would be good to make available in the module admin view, such as the name of the quote file to use. That would make it easy to have multiple modules in different sections showing different quotes.

Overall. Good stuff. Just needs more work. I've hacked up my copy to fix some of the above. Will share when ready.

RSGallery2
Finally found one that work!, July 4, 2006

RSGallery2 I was about to pull out some of my old code and try to write my own Joomla! Gallery extension. Now I don't need to. RSgallery2 has some rough edges, and is still in need of development but it has many advantages over all the other galleries I've tried on this list:
1) It work.
2) The displays look good.
3) It's easy to use.
4) It's fun to work with.
5) It does the job!

Looking forward to the next update.

Extended Menu
Strong opinions on this one!, July 3, 2006

After playing with it for less than an hour I think it's a great extension. Yep, will take a while to figure it all out and I'm not ready to go live with what I've go so far, but that's because I have more to learn.

It assumes a good knowledge of underlying technologies. I can see I need to bone up on advanced CSS and get my head around patTemplate. Not unreasonable expectations for anyone claiming to develop advanced interface features, such as this enables.

How about a field on this site for "Required knowledge/skills"? Here's what I'd put for ExtMenu:

Required knowledge: Advanced CSS, patTemplate, mod_mainmenu functions

Great potential, but very incomplete, July 3, 2006

Pros:
1. Good database exploration and download function. I might keep it around just for this.
2. Good page XML editing features, but still incomplete.

Cons:
1. Can't do anything with actual files other than list them for inclusion in a package.
2. Can't create anything new other than XML files.
3. Menu options don't seem to match claimed features
4. No support, no promised support, very quiet support forum.

Table manager
Works fine, but what to use it for?, July 3, 2006

Table manager In answer to an earlier question, be sure to download and install the other .zip file to get the mambot.

Installed fine, got everything working, but I'm not quite sure what to do with it. I'd rather use phpMyAdmin for table admin.

Maybe the real value is the ability to easily display table data? I'd like to see some examples if anyone did something great with it.

myContent
 Great!, July 3, 2006

myContent Just installed a few minutes ago. Already improved my life. Much easier for administrators too. No more clicking around between Sections, Categories, Static Content, "All" Content, etc.

YaNC
Not supported. Getting buggy., June 27, 2006
1 of 2 people find this review helpful:

YaNC Lots of great features. Wish I could have used it, but ran into a few problems and saw no way around them without digging into the code.

Switched to Letterman, which is much less feature-rich, but everything in it seems to work well.

Letterman Newsletter Component
Clean and simple, June 27, 2006

Letterman Newsletter Component Works well. Very clean interface. Intuitive design. Simple to use.

Would be nice if it supported subscribing to multiple newsletters. It currently treats each issue as a newsletter based on the idea that a site would have only one newsletter. Otherwise great.

I also tried yanc. Nice features, but no longer supported and partially broken.
