Advanced Search
Let's you pick from your search mambots, February 15, 2008

Advanced Search What it does: the component enhances the standard search with checkboxes, indicating which mambots you want to use per search. E.g. if you have search mambots for your forum, your content and your news items, you can pick which one you want to search each time. By default, Joomla searches all published mambots and combines the results. With Advanced Search, you can choose.

Using their module you can display a search box to search a particular part of your site (providing you have a search mambot for that).

Currently, this is all the component does. Some more features are in the pipe line. E.g. include or exclude particular sections or categories. A personal favorite for me would be an extra sorting option, allowing it to sort by keyword density.

If you need it, shell out the 10 bucks to download it. Don't expect too much, but the basic functionality is solid.

Keyword Density - Content Search Plugin
 Search mambot, February 13, 2008

Keyword Density - Content Search Plugin Getting Joomla search to behave as you need to: I've always found it somewhat bothersome. This is a very nice search mambot, great addendum to the options available.

I've used it in combination with the Advanced Search component. That way, density search becomes optional and I can still choose the default ways of searching.

JoomlaPack - AJAX powered backup and restore
Creates corrupt ZIP files, January 15, 2008

Looks very promising, install & configuration is easy and looks like just what you need. But for me it created incomplete, corrupted ZIP files. And the dutch translation is missing text (e.g. no label on button to export database).

Context Links 1.05
Good idea but hard to administer, December 21, 2007

Context Links 1.05 The idea is very good: to have your content links displayed in separate module. For a site that's very static in nature, Context Links would probably work well.

Right now it's very hard to administer. You have to do a lot of manual copy & pasting, finding out ID-numbers you want to link, and finding out the URL's. Very hard to keep track of when you need to change something.

Suggestion: it would be great if I could create a link right next to the content item in the backend. Perhaps in an extra tab. And it would be even nicer if I could select the content item from a filtering list (first select section, then category, then content item).

Great idea, just needs some working on.

KeywordSearch
Really fills a gap in Joomla search components, December 15, 2007

Finally a way to have some control over the search results! I have been looking for a component like this for years.

A simple component to do a simple task: search for keywords that *I* defined. For some sites, I donīt want free text search. Instead I need some carefully selected keywords to link to some carefully selected content items. Enter Keywordsearch.

The only thing I ever found that came close to this, was the old Joomla Tags from Phil Taylor, which included a search module for the tags. The current version does not have this feature anymore.

A great component to use in conjunction with Keywordsearch is Related Items XTD. By combining these you can search AND create cross references between content using their meta keywords.

One bug I found: the title of the component is not being displayed correctly in the frontend (it just says 'Title').

Just throwing in a little feature request here: it would be nice if you could configure in the backend to limit the search to certain sections/categories. Or exclude certain sections/categories. Similar to Related Items XTD, this would be really powerful.

Anyway, it's really nice as is. Thanks!
