jReviews : Reviews / Ratings / Directories
The "one and only" in reviews!, January 18, 2007 |
We bought jReviews when it first came out and despite the functionality, we was a bit sceptic because the component still had a lot of work to be done before we found it useable.
We just took the latest version into actual live use and I must say, that the component has evolved into THE best review platform for joomla.
I've seen other alternatives, but jReviews have taken a gigantic leap in terms of functionality and layout.
What I like most about jReviews is that it's actually very straight forward and intuitive for the end users in front end, even though the back end can do almost every trick you want!
Before christmas, we had a problem getting our server to accept the way the copy protection of jReviews works. Alejandro, the programmer, has been extremely helpful solving this and I must say that the overall level and quality of support exceeds the price of the component alone.
Our users don't as much need to WRITE reviews, but they really like to READ them. Therefor it's crucial for us that a lot of reviews (customer satisfaction) are written.
We took contact to Alejandro and asked for a solution on how users could "order" a review and thereby telling other users, that might be able to write a review on the given shop, that they would like to know of their experiences with the given shop.
After a short chat, Alejandro came up with several solutions on the matter because the component can already do this "reviews wanted" section 90% and I'm sure that we will see it 100% implemented in future releases.
My main point now is: if you need a reviews section for your Joomla site, there's no reason why you would spend your time trying other solutions than jReviews.

JContentSubscription (Pay and Read Content)
    Really usefull component, January 14, 2007 |
Until now, our huge weddingplanning portal has been free to use.
In the future, we'd like to be able to charge the users for using the site and we'd like to do this in smaller steps.
jContentSub allows us to do this, as it can handle free subscriptions very good. This way, we can "train" or "learn" the users that they need to have subscription and when they're used to this, we can start charging. Smaller steps rather than one giant leap :)
Being very focused on SEO, I found a huge "bug" with jContSub though, as it not only blocks non-subscribed users from seing the site content. It also blocked Google etc. which would mean that 90% of the site would be unavailable for indexing.
I took contact to the programmer, Sergey, and he liked my idea, so he wrote a new version that still lets the search engines index the site while the non reg. users cannot see it.
This is an AWESOME enhancement of the component and I see no reason why we shouldn't use it on our site!
Also, I think it has more flexible payment options than other similar products. Yes, you can charge by Paypal etc. like the other subscriptioncomponents, but jContSub also works regardless of any online payment as you can have it use standard email. This is great, as less than 5% of our users in Denmark have Paypal or similar. We use a special danish creditcard and this way, we can just mail the users on how and where to pay!

JPromoter v.2 - Joomla SEO Great Tool (SEF)
On of the most usefull SEO parts to Joomla, January 14, 2007 |
2 of 2 people find this review helpful:
I think the review is a little unfair.
I've been using jPromote sinces a couple of days before christmas, and it has helped us clean up our site/urls very, VERY much.
The biggest outcome of using it, is the way jPromote scans your URLs. This made us see, that we had all sorts of identical "copies" of the content, due to the item-id-problem, that many users have complained about. jPromote makes a visual presentation of this, so you can fix it, which I believe can be highly recommended to do in terms of SEO.
One thing that is really cool and usefull, is the way it also scans your content so it presents you of the most used words. This is great, as you (once again regarding SEO) would normally have better results, if you use the exact same meta / title as the "most used words".
Also, let me point out, that it automatically swaps (site title) and (page title) if you want to.
That said, I find that the programmer (Sergey) is very fast to help and I have absolutely no problem with the price of the component - come on, you spent HOURS geeting a good site, so why hesitate to give a few dollars to have THE RESULTS of you work much better? :)
Cheers,
Kenneth / Denmark
