Z Weather
 The Beta2 is Superb!, April 12, 2008

Z Weather Earlier versions used to be a little difficult to work with. Now, it's a breeze and works well with J1.5. The versatility is amazing without limiting ease of use. NB - we don't use the cron function. It would be nice to be able to do a truly horizontal display for those templates that have a header banner. Comes close, but not quite. ZWeather has come a long way in a year. Kudos to the developer.

CQI - CustomQuickIcons
 Brilliant, February 8, 2008

CQI - CustomQuickIcons One of the 5-6 extensions we install immediately on every joomla site. Just that good and a practical necessity if you have any normal clients who may need to use the admin functions.

Any plans to make it J1.5 compatible? Please, please? The component already installs fine on Khepri, but the module install seems to have a small bug. We need this on J1.5!

Kudos to the developer for a terrific contribution.

CiviCRM
Some people are dissembling here!, February 3, 2008

CiviCRM The functionality is superb, the CivicCRM people are very nice, and they've got a great community. I positively ached for this application to work for us.

However, all those people who claimed they were able to install this on Joomla 1.0.X are blowing smoke. We are long-time Joomla integrators who have installed nearly 200 different extensions of every stripe, and this is the FIRST that simply doesn't install. We followed every step correctly (more than once) tried every variation of unpacking the install file from localhost, offline/ftp, etc. and nothing worked. Followed every suggestion of the CiviCRM boards (even the senior developers, who are all Drupal people BTW). Changed permissions in every possible combination, ensured no throttle on uploads, modified php.ini and htaccess for every conceivable suggestion. IT DOES NOT INSTALL completely, and if you believe otherwise, you will waste your time.

Sorry to report this, the demos and community are wonderful, but this is NOT a Joomla extension, and I ask any of those who gave this more than two stars to prove version 1.6.8217 installs on PHP 5.2 MySQL 5 on a Joomla 1.0.12 or 1.0.13. Unless you have a magic wand.

My sincere hope is that even one senior person in the CiviCRM community was familiar enough with Joomla to make a credible install procedure. When that happens, I'll come back and give it five stars.

Taskhopper - Task Manager
 Top Extension, January 22, 2008

Taskhopper - Task Manager My criteria for a great Joomla extension - rich functionality, easy to work with, reliable, and a feeling of indispensibility once you start to use it, like Joomla itself.
Savvy Joomla users know the list - JCE, DocMan/Mjaz, JoomlXplorer, DBQ, JoomlaBoard, MyContent, SlickRSS, etc.
Well, add TaskHopper to that list.
So solid that they claim it doesn't work in PHP5 or MySQL5, where in fact it works flawlessly in that environment for us. It's the first time in the Joomla world that we've experienced something that works when they say it doesn't. Too often, it's the opposite.
The functions are clever and complete but simple to use, demonstrating good up-front design. It's always an eye-opener to find a commercial-quality component under GPL license. Kudos to the team at APIN.
