EXP Shop
Not worth the money, January 22, 2008

EXP Shop I purchased this a few days ago, and have tested it on one of my domains since then. The first thing I noticed is that it took a lot longer to receive the file from what I am normally used to. Most times when you purchase files like this you get the file or the download link within a minute or two, but this time it took almost 18 hours. Some people may not care about it, but for me, personally, it was too long.

When I unpacked the files I realized that there were no instructions on how to install, set up or use, neither in the e-mail, in the attached file, nor on the developers web site. No instructions, no FAQ's, not even a forum for users to discuss the component or any possible problems. The only way to get information or help, is to send an e-mail to the developer. They responded to my e-mail well within 24 hours, which is an excellent response time.

As of now, it is not possible to add products to your shop from the back-end, only through a menu module through the front-end. When you add products you get a lot of different choices, but no explanation on what the different choices does.

It wasn't until I had installed it, and started to add products to test the component that I realized that EXP Shop is intended for selling web site templates, and not much else, without editing the source and language files.

There is a demo of the front-end on the developers web site, but as far as I can see, no demo of the back-end exist.

EXP Shop does have potential, but at the moment it feels and looks like it's not even half finished. For the price they are offering this component, €79,95 (approx. $117 US), I would not recommend it to anyone, and feel that this was a complete waste of money. iJoomla's DigiStore, in comparison, costs €25 less, and seems to be a far better and safer choice. Even VirtueMart, which is a free component, seems much better.

The developer does not offer a money-back guarantee either, as it states in the license:
"No money-back guarantee!
Since our components are delivered with all source codes intact, we can not afford to give refund."

In retrospect I see that my decision to purchase this component was a gigantic mistake.
