Slick RSS
Best but Major Flaw, January 20, 2008

Slick RSS Best rss module around but its fatal flaw is that it doesn't display dates.

This makes it not so slick.

Worthless, really.

AlphaContent 3.0.4 Ajax rating system included
 Instant Organization!, September 10, 2007

AlphaContent 3.0.4 Ajax rating system included This app is so feature-rich I use it as my home page to display news -- which is to say, a deployment the guy who wrote it, probably didn't have in mind.

And I've tried all the other news modules and so know what's out there.

The genius is how it displays content. It does everything the news content module does, then a lot more -- it lists your content several different ways.

I've been watching the big network news sites and most seem to be moving towards listing their articles by titles with thumbnails and "readmores" that expand into the full article when clicked. This packs more content on a front page while not slowing it down.

Alphacontent not only allows you to do this, but it gives you really cool features to do it well. For example, it has an "alternating image" feature that alternate article thumbnails from left to right. This certainly wasn't necessary, but what a wonderful feature.

Then there's the feature only a few other news modules do -- it shrinks your photo into a thumbnail presevering aspect ratio -- and that's not all! Since it only pulls the thumbnails from mosimage, you can place the mosimage at the bottom of your article, while inserting your main full page image at the beginning of the article which Alpha will ignore. Presto! a great thumbnail on the front page and a full size article in the full view.

As I see it, this is far more than a simple directory -- it's a powerhouse content management tool.

Here's hoping it's developed more along those lines.

Mamblog
 Image problem, April 24, 2007

Mamblog Installs fine. Turned images on in configuration but although image is downloaded into text editor, it does not appear on page with text.

Also, mosimage doesn't not generate it's dialog box in text editor.
