Shared Private Space v2.0
Very useful private folder utility, February 8, 2007
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:

This is a very simple, very useful tool for uploading and downloading any file into a private folder that is created when someone registers on your site. It could also be useful when you want to quickly upload or download a file when you are at work or on the road. I have not tested online yet.

The only thing it really needs is some way of limiting total file size, otherwise someone could block your site. Until then, I will use it as an admin tool. The interface is in French but it is easy to find the text and replace it with your language. Excellent.

Joomla SEF Patch
 Essential, February 4, 2007

Joomla SEF Patch I agree with other reviewers that this extension should be incorporated into Joomla! What it does is change an address like this: http://localhost:85/writing/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=1 to this: http://localhost:85/writing/content/view/12/1/ - after you activate SEO in the configuration panel. Don't forget to create an .htaccess file first. If there are any problems the fault will lie in one of the htaccess options. I could not get SEO to work until I installed this patch.

The next step is to install a SEF extension to create even more intelligent, content based URLs.

D4J Instant Search
Very nice search enhancement, February 2, 2007

D4J Instant Search Using this site search module your site users don't have to leave the home page to see the results of their search. A pop-up window displays the results intelligently searching as you type and adjusting the results of the search as new words are added. The window is styleable via parameters or css module. There is a free version and a more complete pay version. I am using the free version

An oddity (or bug?) is when you opt to use the search button. Clicking the button takes you directly to the normal, default Joomla style listing. What's the point of that? Otherwise I love these new touchy-feely Ajax programs that operate almost like Flash.

Slick RSS
Great newsfeed module, January 25, 2007

Slick RSS A very nice, easy to use newsfeed module that I am using. I styled the module background but the popup colours are the original defaults.

This module seems to work straight away for most people but I had problems when I used an Absolute DIV sitting outside the main template container (for Calendar and Site News). The tooltips were pushed off to the right of the screen out of sight. An email to the author found the solution straight away - brilliant!

At the bottom of the configration page for the module there is a "Extra Tooltip Parameters field". Using version 1.1 David suggested ,OFFSETX, -800, OFFSETY, 0 which worked. If you use version 1.2 you don't need the first comma. Don't ask me why!

For those who know what they are talking about, information on this Overlib thingy is here: http://www.bosrup.com/web/overlib/.

Random Links
Easy and useful, October 19, 2006

I agree, this simple module brings your links into the light of day! I always did find the links component a bit boring and its contents are "hidden" from user view. this way it's nice to see a random selection and the randomness itself creates added value interest on your pages. Should be included as standard in Joomla!

Flash MP3 PLayer
Simple and nice, October 9, 2006
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:

Flash MP3 PLayer A neat, straightforward, colourful flash MP3 player.

There seems to be 2 versions of the player - one is called MP3Player Popup and the other RadioPopup. Both are basically the same thing: The Radio Popup version is modified to play a list of MP3s with only a start and stop button, no skipping through a track list.I guess the idea is to emulate a radio station!! The MP3 player allows you to skip backwards and forwards through the MP3 list as in the picture on this page.
I can't find a pop-up button?

Otherwise really good.

Wish list:

A table entry mode for editing the xml file.
A popup playlist - at least so I can see what is in the playlist. At the moment I have to jump through a hidden list.
Perhaps a script that automatically reads the mp3 files in the folder?
Ideal: full controls - Equaliser, vol. etc. OK it's free. Excellent.

 Excellent, October 9, 2006

This events calendar is easy to use and to set up. As indicated you administer it after logging in as the user you designate in the configuration settings. The config list is clear and logical for a change!

The Popup option works very nicely - and it needs to be an option because many users will have popup blockers.
Also nice to have space for a large photo.

Wishlist:

New themes or skins
Module for special future events (because you might want to sell tickets months in advance.
Text too small - I adjusted mine but maybe make it easier?

Anyway, great so far.
