D4J Content Listing Module
"Read more" problem..., September 27, 2006

D4J Content Listing Module This is generally a good extension that can be used in place of the news flash module, for instance. I am currently using two instances of D4J on the frontpage: one to display a random news bulletin and another to display a random article.

One small but annoying problem is that the optional "Read more" feature doesn't depend on whether there is anything more to read. On short content that consists only of intro text, the "Read more" link is generated nonetheless. Thus, D4J needs to be a bit more aware of the content that it is listing.

 Solid Four Stars !, September 20, 2006

I have been using JIM for roughly one week and believe it warrants a solid recommendation of 4 stars.

Components that refresh themselves often can be dangerous, but JIM looks to be lean and simple, so I do not anticipate serious bandwidth costs. The default page elements look and function well in both IE and Firefox, though I recommend the "button" interface over the "tabs" interface because the latter is image-heavy (and hence slower).

I found only one minor bug, but its effects can be confusing to first-time users. Thus I have described the problem and the fix on the Joomla! forums. Search "JIM Recipient Bug Fix" or try http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,95243.0.html

Gabrovo - Comment System
 Doesn't Save Settings, September 9, 2006

Gabrovo - Comment System This is the second time I installed this; and the second time I had to un-install it. This component does not properly save its settings, and consequently does not function *at all* on my system.

RokLatest
Inconsistent and Buggy, September 7, 2006

RokLatest This is another coin-flip extension. It works on some systems, and is completely useless on others. In my case, the first section worked fine, regardless of the source content; but ALL subsequent sections failed to function, preventing access to the content. I replicated this problem on both IE and Firefox; the problem is hardly a browser issue.

MosCom
 Annoying e-mail bug, August 18, 2006

This bug is too obvious to have been missed, even with casual testing. Regardless of the "Email Required" setting in the configuration panel, the user is ALWAYS presented with an email field that clearly states, "required."

There should be NO email field visible to the user if the Joomla/Mambo administrator has simplified the commenting system (i.e., name > comment > finished!)

The CCS option is a plus, though I probably won't get around to using it. This component cannot rate higher until the author has tested and fixed all operations.
