myContent
A great component, but not for my site..., June 1, 2007

myContent I think the component is quite neat and gives you access to everything you ever published in one place - in the front-end. However, for sites like mine that give the members the status of authors from registration, it falls short on the permission level.

In Joomla an author can submit news, but can't publish it or edit it. This is what I need in my site. But when I use myContent, the members (which are Authors) override Joomla permission, becoming Editors and Publishers!

This is a known issue and I've been looking forward for an upgrade, but it ain't happening... [sobs]...

ArtBannersPlus 1.4
Promising extension, but very poor documentation, March 13, 2007

ArtBannersPlus 1.4 As far as my knowledge goes this component is nearly abandoned, but nobody seems to give up on it.

I've asked the developer(s) to provide some kind of concise resume of the features, issues, changelog and to-do list but nobody seems to answer. Every time I come back in the forum post that have become its "homepage" there seems to be only questions partially answered by people struggling to make it work through their own trial and error.

There's not clear list stating what this component is capable of nor a list of issues. There are several issues not yet addressed. No idea about the odds of its further development either. I give it a 3 star for the sake of all the work put into it so far, otherwise I'd give a 1 star. Lack of support and debugging does make an extension very poor. I wish the developer gave access (or rights) to the core code so people could develop it further.

It's very promising, but I'm very hesitant to use it in a site with thousands of visitors a day.

Cheers!

CB Tab Wraper module
 It's all I ever needed!!!, February 18, 2007

I'm just so excited that I'm writing this one barely 10 minutes after the plugin being published.

Community builder is going to be the main feature of my site, as it's for a community of digital artists. The user menu will be right on the header itself, with links to features the users get for being registered. I was getting a bit disappointed that Community Builder wraps every tab in a single page, because I wanted the tabs to load on their own in different pages. But now with this plugin every tab gets their own page!

I haven't published the site yet, but installed it locally and it seems very promising so far.

Cheeeeeeers!!!

AllVideos Plugin v2.4 - All-in-one media solution
No documentation or support... or?, October 28, 2006

AllVideos Plugin v2.4 - All-in-one media solution Before any criticism, I would like to congratulate the ones behind this one, because it really ads the WOW factor to any site... Cheers there!!!

But as asgard said in comment 19:

"It's also implied that individual videos can have their size etc changed through the plugins parameters, but nowhere can I find these parameters actually listed! Fix this docs problem and the plugin would be awesome."

Could not agree more... I have googled all over the place and can't find a single trace or comment of where one actually sets the parameters to resize the videos - for one. Because of that one, this plug-in is nearly useless to me. The default size is just too big for my layout. In admin, I just can't figure how to get to it. I CHMODed the whole thing, and still can't get access to "edit" it.

Would request some support, but as it's a review, better keep my mouth shut and hope Fotis Evangelou notices this post... ;-)
