JP_MediaLightBox
lacks thumbnail support, June 2, 2008

JP_MediaLightBox Works as announced but seems to lack a crucial feature. It is not possible to link image thumbnails to the videos.

Advanced Profile Control for CB
Superb product, wrong licensing policy, May 19, 2008
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:

Make no mistake. APC is THE best ACL and profile customization tool for CB. Actually, as of now it has no competitor whatsoever, a fact that makes the current bizarre ordeal more "dramatic".
I have been following APC from its alpha stages and have been probably the first customer to try this wonder out, in April 2007.
By then the extension was still open source and the author was still to decide which licensing path to follow. And her is were he has failed miserably. Probably aware that he has created one of the best CB add-ons in existence, Mikko decided to encrypt vital portions of the source and enforce one iof the most strict licensing policies, based on a paranoid license manager called IONO.
Not long ago the author has had some health issues (announced on his website) and since early April 2008 he's nowhere to be found. This basically implies a sudden support cut off. Somethig as trivial as updating a license cannot be done because there's simply no one answering the helpdesk tickets, that's why some people are legitimately outraged.
This strange plot clearly shows why OPEN SOURCE COMPLIANCE matters. Had Mikko treaded a different path and someone else could take his place and enhance APC. A pity.

JUGA - Joomla User Group Access
At last an advanced ACL extension that doesn't need hacks, May 9, 2008
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:

JUGA - Joomla User Group Access We are using JUGA on several complex portals, including an Intranet. Among other neat features, this extension empoers us to define which task of a give component can be performe by whom. Granularization of privileges at its best, in deed.
Furthermore, restrictions can be applied on content items, components, modules and menu items.
As the subject line suggests, it does not patch a single file. Instead, restriction policies are enforced through a plugin.
Finally, it supports seamless integration with AEC subcription plans.

Search Mambot for CommunityBuilder Fields
 Extremely useful, May 8, 2008

Search Mambot for CommunityBuilder Fields This plugin is a must have in any Joomla/CB powered social network.

It lacks, in my opinion, further styling options (CSS is poorly implemented) and the ability to toggle the list ordering number off. In most cases it is not needed and causes a visual quirk if an avatar is shown.

CB SOBI2 plugin (tab)
works well but lacks pagination, May 6, 2008

Works well but lacks one major feature: pagination.
Without this function, longer lists will certainly break the appearance of a CB profile page.

MusicBox
minor flaws in a promising extenion, April 18, 2008

MusicBox I actually dissent with some of the harsh opinions recently submitted.
The component has still margin to improve, no doubt, but what has been accomplished so far suffices the needs of most muisc collectors.
Provided that one does not regard it as a streaming tool, it sports a wealth of organizational features that empower us to arrange and browse a collection through different criteria.
The admin UI is clean, modern, refined, streamlined and quite easy to follow. I didn't need any instructions to find my way through, honestly, neither did i observe any major show stoppers.
I agree that it could be better supported, though when it comes to GPL software we shall be a bit more understanding in our criticism.
In a sum. MusicBox, with some workflow adjustments and bug fixing, will definitely become a mature music collection manager. There's plenty of quality work already accomplished and that is worth encouraging, not bashing (IMO).

CBJuice
User data import and export made easy, April 11, 2008

Have used CB JUICE in a couple of major projects with hundreds to over 2000 thousand users each. The whole process is straightforward and bug free.
Just had to convert XLS spreadsheets into CSV files, name and set the headers order properly, upload the CSV file and that was all. Immediately my CB and core Joomla user tables had the pertinent data stored.
I can even update the user data in edit mode every time the CSV file is changed (existing entries can be kept and new ones are added).
The latest version doesn't seem to support MySQL 4, but that's not really a show stopper these days. Highly recommended for time saving developers.

AdsManager: Classified Ads
Powerful, flexible, scalable, April 8, 2008

AdsManager: Classified Ads If there's something i appreciate about any piece of software is the ability to reuse and refocus it for several different purposes.
With customizable fields, AdsManager has allowed me to turn a "classifieds" script into a neat Job Board. Together with the PCS extension, one is even able to charge fees for ads. Stunning.
Last but not least, ethics. Contrary to a growing tendency among certain 3rd party developers, Thomas puts the GPL compliance banner above immediate profiting. An attitude which is worth praise and gratitude (in the form of a much deserved donation).

TagJ!
superbly simple and effective, March 12, 2008

If you have your meta keywords in place, than this little bot will do wonders.
Imagine a string of related search keywords following your article. That's exactly what TagJ! does.
Keep in mind that it automatically picks the cloud words and phrases straight from the meta tags of each article!
What's more amazing is that it delivers in just one file almost the same *practical* functionality you may expect from a cluttered buggy extension Phil Taylor's Joomla Tags.
Don't throw away your cash without taking TagJ! for a spin.

Brightcode Import Export
 does wonders, September 22, 2007
2 of 2 people find this review helpful:

Brightcode Import Export It is the most effective and user friendly users data importing tool i have used.
Intuitive and easy to understand interface.
Had it some sort of integration with CB and it would be brilliant.
Hopefully it will get there.
