Lots of Potential, May 9, 2006 |
First let me say this does a lot in a very flexible manner. It can manage multiple, rotating banners of various sizes in multiple locations for multiple advertisers. That part is very nice.
However, the admin interface needs work. There are a lot of little gotchas. For example, every time you edit a banner profile, it doesn't read in all previous values, so some values are reset to default. When you save an edited banner profile, it unpublishes itself. A banner image upload is provided inside the banner profile editor, but you can't use the uploaded image within the profile unless you exit the profile and then re-enter. The image upload also doesn't allow you to overwrite an existing banner. Banners and locations are called by their ID number. So you have to keep a little scratch sheet of what ad goes where. Documentation is minimal.
So if you can accept the admin headaches, this will do a nice job for you.
I have not had a chance to check out the banner impressions tracking stats yet. Also, there doesn't appear to be an admin interface for advertisers to access.

JoomlaFCK editor
Not bad., April 24, 2006 |
Installed fine on my remote J 1.08 dev site (IIS6; mySQL 4.0.25; php 4.3.11).
Don't Like:
1 - Lack of granularity for toolbar administration.
2 - the "width" setting in the mambot admin area is useless in that it sets the width but it cuts off the toolbars.
Do Like:
1 - Seems to leave the html code alone.
2 - Simpler text formatting options than "TinyMCE".

Random Quotes Module
Basic Random Quotes, April 20, 2006 |
No separate field for quote source.
Need to edit a text file on the server to change quotes.
Not ideal unless you are the site owner and admin and know your way around your site's file directory.
ALSO: getting an error:
Notice: Undefined variable: quotesLine in mod_randomquotes.php on line 21
