Most people want this to set up right out of the box and not to have to jump through hoops to set up PayPal. After spending a number of hours trying to get PayPal to work i debugged the errors and the software was looking for jos_mambots. Yeah ok. No great explanation of how to get Paypal going.

I have just downloaded JCS and installed it into my website. I'm really impressed with the solutions of the product. It's the thing i need. I'm a newbie in Joomla, but when i read the document for the project, it's easy to understand.
I recommend this to everyone who is looking for a way to add pay-per-view content to their Joomla site.
I need some features for my site, so i'm willing to wait new version of the extension.
Thanks
David
I downloaded this component a couple of weeks ago expecting it to do what it says on this page, it doesn't. If you want to sell pieces of content (not subscriptions to content categories) don's use this. (and be careful because I also emailed them to check it does this and they said it did too, until they tried to set it up!)

In addition the documentation is useless and every support request take 48-72h to come back and in most cases is meaningless.

Finally they won't give me a refund which is very bad practice.

I recently purchased JContentSubscription and JUser...

I have to say, even for a novice like me it was very-very-easy to setup my subscription pages using JCS. During the design of my site I was a bit worried about how I was going to setup paid subscriptions, but with JCS it was a 10 minute job!

My only gripe is that the English strings are not very good (understandable considering the developers are not english), but it's not that big a deal as the strings are easily changed and there are not many of them.

The help manuals (downloadable from the site) are very informative and tell you exactly what to do. I've not needed to use it, but the support site seems good.

I'd 100% recommend this to anyone who is looking for a way to add pay-per-view content to their Joomla site.

poor support
bad english
poor manual
unwilling to give support for integration with any GPLed component

I was impressed with the tutorials and manual. Created a pay to view video site with just this and Joomla.

Very pleased.
I have never written a Joomla extension review before but I feel it's necessary now. Up till now, I purchased Open Source knowing it was pretty much "as-is" or required a level of php to hack your way to satisfaction. The JCS team helped me configure the software at a very reasonable charge. The software does everything I want by limiting access to certain articles or components to subscribers only while having the balance of the site being Public. Thank you very much Sergey!

This is my first ever joomla site and I was a bit worried I would not be able to work out how to use this extension. It installed perfectly first time and I spent a long while staring at my screen wondering if I would ever get my head around this. However I decided it might be beneficial to read the PDF manual and lo and behold I had everything working perfectly in a few minutes. I had a bit of trouble getting the discount coupon function to work for me but the email support from Sergey was excellent and I had it working in no-time. The main reason for purchasing this extension was for a subscription based site which has members only pages and I thought this would be very difficult to do. How wrong I was! JContentSubscription does exactly what it says on the tin and very easy it is to use too. Highly Recommended.
WOW! What can I say.

For anyone needing to setup any sort or subscription website this is THE extension to use.

You can restrict access to just about anything!! EVEN parts of a component EG. certain forums.

The possibilities are endless.

Pay to read articles
Pay to watch videos
Use it to simply administer groups access to certain categories if you want - the skies the limit

I really can't do it justice here it has to be used to be appreciated. Oh and the support - one word AWESOME. I had a suggestion for a feature and had a quick chat with the developer on skype he created the solution and gave me the code ON THE SPOT - now that's service!!! and it's going to be implemented in the next release as standard.

If you need to restrict access to any parts of your joomla! website, whether simply to restrict group access OR as a Pay to read then this is THE extension for you.

Thanks to Sergey and his team.

My experience of this component is very poor. It doesn't appear to work and support for the product is terrible.

I installed this compoment and it certainly locks those articles you wish to restrict.

The biggest problem I have faced is that to register you need to be already registerd. Yes it sounds strange, but I dont know why it does this. So if you're not registerd, you cant get registered. The componet for some resaon locks the new subscribers processt. This means ther is no way to subscribe to access subscription plans.

I've tried the Support Forum and messages dont get answered for days at a time. I've tried Skype, calls don't get answred. I now await a reply from emails.

I have 1.5.6 installed, but there is a newer version, 1.5.7
I would like to attempt an upgrade. But there is no documentaion advising what steps are required and forum posts again remain unanswered.

This is a good bit of programming, and is done with the end user in mind, for the most part. I am setting up two different sites using pay-for-subscription models, and this fits the bill to a tee. We had some initial problems setting up the language file so it made sense and integrated well with Joomla registration, but after making some changes to the english.php file, it has worked out really well. When we did have some problems with the module not recognizing a payment, Sergey and his team jumped right in and solved the problem quickly. Stellar support. I look forward to more improvements on this already great extension.
As a Joomla devotee I am really impressed with the simple integration of this component – Having tried all the other components listed here this is the only one which works straight from the box. The support which comes with the procduct is excellent. Five stars for this Russian devloper!
A great component and plug-in by Sergey Romanov. JContentSubscription was worth every dollar as it allowed me to put a price on sections and categories where valuable content was stored. The simple install and the great support gets this Extension a 4 star.

I have tried them all but this one is the best. Couldn't get SubscriptionPRO to work but didn't get my money back. AEC worked fine for a while. It has a future but it was still a little unpredictable.

This component is truly very user friendly and straight forward. It has everyting you need to host a subscription website. Sergey is also very friendly and helpful.
I think this extension is the best for the money. We have had a spot of difficulty here and there. But the developer is always quick to respond and is very helpful.
My name is Fançois i'm french( so excuse me for my sometime bad english)and i just buy this component because it was exactly what i needed ..... So first it's an exellent idea and a very powerfull component. You cant do almost what you want witch it .... The hability to work with other joomla component is a great feature ..... If you want to sel "buy & read content" try this component and it will be done .....
But like often in web developpment i had problem using it so i contact the JCS team and they provide me a very accurate and fast support .... special thank's to Sergey Romanov and as we say in french "Bravo" from the french riviera ..... :)
I have not been able to get this component to work - I consider myself above average in my ability to work with Joomla (but certainly not an expert). When I first received the product Sergey sent an immediate email which offered help if I ran into any problems. I emailed him and received no reply - he also did not respond to my query whether I could get a refund.
This product may well work - but it didn't work for me, I didn't get any help and there was no trial available.
If you can trial another product or find one that will refund your money if you do not use it - I strongly suggest you try that first.
This was bad experience for me and now I will be super cautious when spending my money. And I will assume many reviews (but obviously not this one!) are not truly independent posts.
Owner's reply

Sir I am very sorry that you got in this situation. I refund immediately everyone who requests that. If you did not receive emails from me that could be the spam protection reason. You know that email become less and less reliable. Please, send refund request through the contact us form on the site and indicate your order number.

But if you fail with contacting me through email you could try forum, MSN, Skype, ICQ, telephones and at last my Mobile phone number.

If people get problem with getting work JCS I configure it for them.

Until now, our huge weddingplanning portal has been free to use.

In the future, we'd like to be able to charge the users for using the site and we'd like to do this in smaller steps.

jContentSub allows us to do this, as it can handle free subscriptions very good. This way, we can "train" or "learn" the users that they need to have subscription and when they're used to this, we can start charging. Smaller steps rather than one giant leap :)

Being very focused on SEO, I found a huge "bug" with jContSub though, as it not only blocks non-subscribed users from seing the site content. It also blocked Google etc. which would mean that 90% of the site would be unavailable for indexing.

I took contact to the programmer, Sergey, and he liked my idea, so he wrote a new version that still lets the search engines index the site while the non reg. users cannot see it.

This is an AWESOME enhancement of the component and I see no reason why we shouldn't use it on our site!

Also, I think it has more flexible payment options than other similar products. Yes, you can charge by Paypal etc. like the other subscriptioncomponents, but jContSub also works regardless of any online payment as you can have it use standard email. This is great, as less than 5% of our users in Denmark have Paypal or similar. We use a special danish creditcard and this way, we can just mail the users on how and where to pay!
I had an idea for a subscription based website and was led to Joomla and then to JContentSubscription by my hosting company.

This component has met every need that I have been able to imagine!

Being a newbie to Joomla, components, modules, etc... you can imagine what all I asked this component to do at first! I had the component jumping through several unnecessary hoops and it still worked like a champ.

Also, being a newbie when I started, I can say that Sergey's customer service and support is second to none. I asked a ton of questions and never felt like I was imposing and any problems were fixed promptly. Thank you Sergey.

The component was also updated during the time I was setting everything up which made things even easier!

The only downside in my opinion to JContentSubscription is the lack of extensive documentation, but if you are experienced with Joomla and with Sergey's support, this shouldn't stop you from trying the component. There is a growing support forum at joomlaequipment.com.

Overall, this component is worth $55 and then some!

I was in the market for a good subscription manager. I searched high and low and posted in several forums. Finally Sergey Romanov from http://joomlaequipment.com posted a response in one of the forums and I tried to contact him. Initially I was very skeptical based on all the post I had seen about developers wanting to sell their product and never hearing from them after the purchase. I am new at joomla and tend to mess things up so support is very important to me. Sergey and his JcontentSubscription has met all my expectations and my criteria for what the subscription manager had to do.

My criteria was:

The manager had to work with Joomla 1.0.11 / Community Builder / UHP2 / Remository / and the other components Modules and Mambots I have on my site and there are several.

I had to be able to offer free and paid subscriptions and a free trial subscription option.

Had to have good support.

Had to allow for different subscription time options.

Had to allow for different payment options.

Sergey’s JcontentSubscription has met all of my needs and his customer support has far exceeded my expectations. If you are looking for a good subscription manager I recommend him and his JcontentSubscription very highly.

The price was very reasonable $55 USD and he even installed it for me for a small fee. Initially there were some problems with the install and I was getting nervous. I thought I was stuck with a script that I had paid for and no clue how to fix it. Sergey fixed everything so it worked right. Sergey’s customer service is even better than his JcontentSubscription, which I am very pleased with. If there is any problem he makes it right. I probably even created some of the problems through my lack of knowledge.

Sergey, THANK YOU for this wonderful script.

The direct link to the JcontentSubscription is http://joomlaequipment.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7&Itemid=34

Now I need to tell him about the openSEF to fix that URL. I am also very pleased with the Open SEF which I installed and needed a lot of help with. Many of the developers could learn from these two.
