Skore - Keep up the good work man. Just downloaded and installed the RC2p on J1.5.11. Had to do 2 things to make it work without errors:

a. disable warnings in php.ini (this was to get rid of the "acctexp.class.php on line 735" error, something about an array, it was posted earlier in this thread. hopefully this issue will get resolved so that i can undo the php.ini hack.

b. uninstalled CB1.1, it was causing duplicate emails and registration messages on the "checkout" page. i am guessing the latest version of CB would fix this issue but i haven't installed & tested it yet.

c. install the updated plugin that Jake posted on the valanx.org home page. very speedy response to the J1.5.11 security update!
I have a Joomla website that uses ccbill. I had 2 freelancers from scriptlance that were 10-star rated, top 10% programmers that completely destroyed my site trying to integrate ccbill. I went to websgold.com and purchased one of their installation/software packages and they integrated ccbill and fixed my site in ONE DAY!

When it comes to your business and website, don't try to do things the cheap way. Go straight to the source, to a reputable, established business that knows exactly what to do to keep your business running smoothly. They are trustworthy, keep you updated on exactly what they are doing, give you direction on how to make it better, and deliver on everything they promise and more.

I can't thank Valanx and Websgold.com enough. I will definately be doing business with them again in the future.

Thanks for the review! And just to clear this up - Jake is my partner in crime doing most of the support on valanx.org. The other site mentioned is his personal business. In some cases we still defer requests directly to his business... just in case somebody was getting confused why the two sites were mentioned!

I must admit, I was a little wary of trying the software after reading the forum, but then dived in and was very happy indeed when a problem did come up, the Valanx team was quite happy to assist and did so professionally and quickly. It is important when addressing issues with software that the user acquaint themselves with the operating system and try to see things from the developer's perspective, as well as reading the forums, naturally. But overall a very tight product that suffers no more or less from the open source syndrome. An added benefit of open source software is it gives us the chance to learn and help others. I found those developing this product all around helpful and patient. Especially David Deutsch who deserves many thanks for helping me out of a tough situation.
All you need to do to decide if you want to use this software is scan the forum and count the number of posts where the users are pleading, begging and praying for support from the developers to clarify or fix some bug -- and many of the people asking have paid for support and have yet to receive it. The developers post that certain payment gateways are working with the most recent release, yet as soon as it goes out the door there are numerous reports of bugs, incompatibility, issues with connections, blank pages, failed processing of invoices... the list goes on and on.

A great product if you want to run a mickey-mouse operation where your users invoices and payments are lost, not accounted for otherwise shredded.

Sorry, that is just wildly inaccurate. Since the only recent release was three days ago, I must assume that you are talking about that. Leaving aside the (pretty important) fact that this is a development release and I have put it out with a big disclaimer that we are still working on the last bugs, I have problems finding what you are talking about in the forums.
After I have put up the latest release, there were 7 threads posted. Two are about a minor PHP warning (quite common with development software). One where people have not understood recent changes, which I explained. One was for a payment processor - which is well known to cause problems (and which we have been trying to integrate for half a year now) and another one for a component integration that is scheduled for the upcoming stable release. One was about a bugfix that didn't work out for this user - and I have since requested further details on this. And the last one was of a kind user who provided us with a custom Spanish translation.
Sorry, but is that what you call "numerous reports of bugs, incompatibility, issues with connections, blank pages, failed processing of invoices"? Or were those your personal experiences?

As for the rather grave accusations - I have yet to hear of a case where invoices or payments are "lost". The worst thing that can happen (if I make the right connection about which of the recent threads you posted in our forum) is that a payment notification comes in and is not parsed correctly (or understood at all). If that happens, there are tools to fix that immediate issue (manually clearing the invoice in the user account). The next step of course is to figure out where it went wrong. Since the AEC logs a lot of data, the first step is to have a look there. In most cases, its a setup issue with the payment processor (for example - if you did not set your PayPal account to automatically accept payments without your consent). If you really are using a processor like Clickbank (the recent reports were about that), I would be glad (and have requested) to get any further details that help me fix the situation. I have detailed the problems with Clickbank on a number of occasions (they don't really like you to handle your own business, but would rather have everything on their site... which makes integration a hit and miss if you factor in that their documentation is not only inaccurate and self-contradictory, there is also TWO of them - which in turn contradict each other!) and while it always and again and again seems like we are close to getting it to work... well, I'm tired of making the promise that it will work soon. I'm trying to get it to work - And that is all I have claimed about that for a crushing long time now.

Apart from that - I have now put up a big RED box at the top of the forum saying that its a community forum, NOT the place to get professional support. If you have problems paying a small fee to get help when you obviously need it (the majority - by far - of users can use it right away without encountering any of the problems you have talked about), I'm not sure you have understood what this is really about. Also: I don't sell software (and I never get tired of saying that).

I recently downloaded it and tested it for my subscription website. After struggling to install it properly, it worked exactly as it promises. I particularly like it's micro integration features.

Area of improvement: the Installation documentation. Some crucial steps need to be mentioned in the documentation - since I had to troll the forums to find them - and I bet lots of other users might have given up on this product because of similar teething problems. Of particular note are the reinstallation steps (in the case that first installation does not go well). The document fails to mention that all AEC databases should be dropped from the backend in order to re-install properly. I hope this is included in future documentation.

Best - Susmit
AEC is one of the best examples of why Joomla reigns over Drupal or any other CMS: I honestly thought this was a commercial extension when I first used it on a client's site, and imagined it had cost AT LEAST $100 (I could see it selling like hotcakes at $200 for what it lets you do: monetize your site with subscriptions).

I see subscription services as being the most profitable business model on the web, so the availability (and great support, I might add) for this product truly makes Joomla itself a more valuable tool for developers and end-clients alike.

We've now built a few more sites using AEC, and continue to rave about the results.

Thanks guys; keep up the good work!

Something Free and something so good... Well its hard to beleive. But this one is a treat. And for that matter , this one seems to be the only contribution which seems to do it. There is not much providing the same features. The developers ROCK.

Very powerful for membership. i use with JACL pro, VM and CB. Works well. The Micro Integration is also very powerful. There is no other product like this for membership.

Thanks guys. Hope to see a Native 1.5 soon
This morning I was about to create a website for future projects, where I can share developing costs with others tru offering subscription plans.

I lookt at some other extensions than AEC and read allot about the possibilities. Then I gave this one a try because it was free and look t really nice!

So downloaded AEC this morning and try to install it. Ooops something was not right on my hosting account ... It gave and error about memory limits. I searched the web about the error and found a solution. Changed php ini to have some more memory. After that install was working. After installing AEC it gave a very detailed log.
Because I am on a Apache server the zipped files where not unpacked. No problem I did this myself.

OKE AEC is running :)

I got scared by seeing al the functions, allot new therms like micro processors, payment processors. Hacks. I ran to the Forums and read al documents carefully. Install 4 plug ins, apply hacks, legacy before the plug ins. And so on.

Created a new Pay pal account. Again read the forums. Changed some settings. Downloaded Doc man and Again read the forums. Changed some settings.

After this all the only problems that was left Users registering get no email and paypal doesn't send the right sign to my website, to activate the subscription plans.

I was pulling my hair about Joomla not sending emails ... so stopped for a while ...

Stupid as I am, I had to change some email settings in the back end of my Joomla installation. SMPT ore something.

Oke to the point now! Just about 1 hour ago, I started to play around with the website, fixed the email and integrated the Doc man groups, and applied the settings in AEC, micro processors for Doc man and uploaded some test files. Create an Test account. Set the subscription plans for about 2 $ and bought myself a subscription.

WOW ...
It worked just as described in the website :)
I got new user details in the mailbox.
I got info about my subscription.
I got the mails from Paypal.
I got the Joomla registration link.

Oke applied the link and try to log in ...
Yess wonderwull it works! When I click on my subscription tab it says ...

This account is active until: Tue, 05 May 2009 21:21:00 CEST
22 Days left

Less than 1 day work to understand and that for a very novice user like me in CMS Joomla website land. This was a great experience.
Not only that I managed to get this component running, but also the knowledge that I can move on whit my project and build a subscription website.

I want to say thanks to the developers, for building this great extension and offering it free … As soon I get my first 15 subscribers. I will make a reasonable donation.

Kind regards and thanks allot A happy customer !
Hope this project keeps running and works with Joomla 1.6 also.

After spending several hours downloading this, installing it (per the installation instructions), I was all set to use it.

Problem is, I couldn't figure out how to use it. There's a manual on the extension's website, but you have to pay to use it--and I didn't want to pay until I've figured out if the component does what I want it to do.

I searched their website up and down looking for just a simple OVERVIEW on how to use it and how to get rid of the "white template" effect that happened when I used the component to register.

But no go. I couldn't information anywhere regarding the "big picture" (flow line, how to configure the content for different users, etc).

After tearing out more hairs than I wanted to lose, I gave up.

I am sure this is a really fine component. I just wish it had more AVAILABLE information about how the thing is supposed to integrate into your website. (It has great installation instructions, but no "free" integration instructions.)

Thank you for your review. We get replies in both directions on this matter - as you can see from the reviews on this page already. Some find it easy to jump in directly, even without full documentation, others struggle and give up (which I'm sorry for). We are working on functional overviews on the component that will give people a good "direction where to think" when using the component - to get a grasp of the basic functions. Nothing as thorough as the manual, but something to get folks on the right path.
Again - sorry that it didn't work out for you!

Im a joomla developer for almost 4 years now, and been using this since last 2007 (wow 3 years of use and only got a review now). Anyway, I highly reccomend this component for everyone that wants paid registration on their website. This component is very easy to install, updated regularly and the support is really great.

2 thumbs and 2 toes up for this! By the way, my friends here also wants to share their thumbs, so thats about 20 thumbs up and 2 toes up!

This is by far one of the joomla extension I like the most. It's a free extension, and by following the manual it's easy to setup. Even if you experience a problem, the developer will help solving your problem on the forum. I will defenitely buy a paid membership when my two websites are online.
If you're using PayPal or 2Checkout for recurring billing, AEC gets a 5 star rating.

However this is a 2 star component when it comes to Authorize.net Automatic Recurring Billing (ARB). The checkout process is extremely unfriendly. It would require programming to make it more professional.

However if you use PayPal or 2Checkout the payment checkout process is handled on PayPal & 2Checkout's servers. So the checkout will obviously be very smooth.
AEC installed easily and worked just as I could have expected it to. Hard to believe that this is a free extension, but it is.

I have struggled with this component for hours and had my server provider change file permissions correctly. But the component still says that the file permissions are wrong.

I am using Joomla 1.0.15 and have installed the correct component.

Pitty really as I am sure it would be awesome

This Component is next to Sobi2 my FAVE. I was concerned at first that AEC wouldn't play nicely with Sobi2 or mess it up somehow...but the two from what I can see so far is great!

The amazing part is that it is for free. Which I'm glad for because, I did like some I see here had an awful time getting it installed. However, it had nothing to do with AEC it had to do with the server/hosting company...what ended up to me as a nightmare...causing me days to get installed. But once my server got straightened out installation couldn't have gone smoother or easier...seriously a breeze to install and get setup.

The integration with PayPal couldn't be any easier either. So simple.

Only hickup I've come across which is their restrictions tab in plans section.

Other than that couldn't be more pleased with what this extension offers. It's exactly what I needed as so many users have stated. Definitely a component worthy of monetary support!!! So go try it out for fee but don't forget to send them love and support back...well deserved!

I love AEC. Very easy to install.
Everything works perfect except the Paypal buy now.
My hosting company is saying paypal code is outdated so they block it saying its a phishing code. If you can correct it it would be great.

Thanks for this extension, it was easy to install and setup, and exactly what I was looking for!
Thank you Thanks you very much professional developers, this is one of the wonder of the world of extensions in joomla... i am gonna pay for this component to appreciate developers...

it is really easy to install and run... a lay man like me can do it, but don't know why people are not able to install and complain and posted negative comments here, i am really angry with negative posters who dishearten the developers, but there are some guys like me who appreciate other's efforts.
Again Thanks for a good work Valanx...
Regards from Sunny

This extension was just what I needed and has been up and running for us with no problems. It solved many issues that we faced with subscriptions and I have a very satisfied client. The developers were very attentive and helpful and installed the system for me in a matter of days. Terrific!
