Seyret Video Popular Component

The first video component for Joomla is of course Seyret. It was born because of our needs, but when we published it, the Joomla community really liked it and encouraged us to add new features to it. Now it is feature rich and this developement process will continue. When we say that there are some sites based on only this extension, you can easily understand the value of Seyret.

Let's have a look at some of the features:

First of all we have a very good installation and upgrade system implemented. As all our users agree, the installation and upgrade process are very simple. During the upgrade process, all of your videos and information remain intact.

After you create categories, it is time to add some videos to your site. It generally takes only a few seconds to add a new video. Just copy the video link from one of the supported video sites and paste it to Seyret. That's it! Your intelligent friend will glean all information pertaining to that video and publish immediately after your submission. We currently support 35 video servers, like youtube, google, revver, break etc, and more will come. Also you can use this component to add local videos. As a new feature in 0.2.7 - wmv, mpg, mp3, swf files are also supported. You can upload your flash games and make a game gallery. Don't forget the first aim of this component is to provide a video extension to Joomla, so for a game site, there may lack some features.

Another important feature of Seyret is video download option. After you enable video download option from configuration panel, your users will be able to download your videos from video servers. All of our video server plugins are download option enabled.

Browsing is AJAX based as default. But from config panel you can disable it to make your site more browsable by search bots.

Seyret is fully customizable with its theme system. Just edit template files and css file. We will provide some more themes after Seyret becomes more stabile and feature rich.

We have implemented an advanced permission system. Using the configuration panel, you can define almost every parameter to your user groups. It is very flexible and can be used with or without JACL installed.

It is impossible to explain all the great features of Seyret here on the front page, visit the wiki to learn more. Also, the JoomlaHolic site boasts Top-Notch support here in our forums. Go ahead, use and enjoy Seyret - and rest assured that we'll be here for a long time to come.

Report

This may very well work with 1.0 -- but to advertise this as "1.5 Legacy" is inaccurate at best.

My 1.5 installation required two days of "banging on the pipes" just to get it to stay on a page and not vanish its own Search box off the right edge of the monitor. It still won't talk with Jom Comment, Kunena (it claims to support Fireboard) nor allow my users to vote on videos.

Some of its plugins -- available at JoomlaToys -- throw terrifying PHP errors in 1.5. Enable one at a time, then fully test your site. The only one I can get to play nice is the MOD that integrates with Search. (Which, by the way, IS an awesome feature.)

The interface is simply not up to Joomla standards. For instance, wait until you import a few hundred videos into the system only to discover there not only is no way to "Select All -> Publish" but that if you try to "Select Unpublished" the screen will reset to Page One with all videos selected EACH time you publish a video. That's not just "not user-friendly", it is downright user-hostile.

If you go this route with 1.5, fair warning; you may, like me, reach the conclusion that "Seyret" is Turkish for "sadness."

I have 5 websites with big traffics and i can tell you, SEYRET is bad, really bad
Lots of bug, upload video problem
For my customers now i use Hwd media share
thnak you
... like youtube videogoogle etc etc... For me - its working perfect and its looks fantastic. Works with Community Builder, with comments system. 5/5 - the only one rate i can give. I not tested special seyret functions like uploading converting and other.
The Seyret product is nowhere ready for release. The demo version works perfectly on J1.5, but the Pro version doesn't work at all. The forum suggests disabling mod_security for your domain, which I haven't tried. This blame is placed upon the flash uploader.

The license supposedly allows one domain, and one sub-domain. They also don't support this feature. Support is non-existent! Documentation is very poor, and doesn't illustrate any features or usage of this product.

Uninstalling the Pro vesion to test it or use it on my live site, left my demo site in a condition that module locations in content are confused, and portions of the css style are ignored. I may have to recreate the whole demo site! This may be because of hacks that need to be applied through the Seyret control panel.

Check the forum, and you will find many unhappy users. If you have not migrated to Joomla 1.5, I'm sure the product works perfectly, and the concept of the product is very useful!
This is a great component
Hi all, i have purchased this component, if somebody want the license, is yours, i don´t want it.

I can´t belive how he dare to say that his script is like youtube.

The script is ok when it's free, I paid for the "pro" license to have the flv video conversion, it never happened and nobody helped me, nobody is going to help you, if you don´t believe me go to the component forum and see it by yourself, lots of people complaining for the same reason, hundreds of posts unanswered, an absolute LACK OF SUPPORT.

I changed to a server with all the specifications that they say are needed (in the wiki) and nothing.

My advice, use it but don´t pay for it.
If you are looking for a real video solution, this isn´t. Search in the web, there are others with real support and that really work.

Joomla's reputation is soiled with such components like this, i have purchased lots of components and never happened nothing like this.

Very good component, if you wish to have a youtube-like video component on your site

Don't expect support on this product because you will not get it, use HWD video share instead. If you have a problem 6 months down the line when you have invested lots of time into it and you have an issue they will not help you.
Anyone who goes around rating applications 1/5 because they didn't install it correctly or because they have another app that conflicts with it, should be embarrassed. This is an incredible application that's free, and rating it 1/5 is just malicious. I donated and got the pro version which allows you to upgrade from the backend. This is truly impressive since most components don't even tell you when there is a new version out.

The gallery itself is highly customizable. The only problem we had was that the category listing was hardcoded to be 4 columns but we fixed that ourselves. Pro version was worth the purchase for the lifetime upgrades and the different player skins but even if you don't upgrade, there's so much that you get for free with nothing hindering your site on the look and feel that you should try this component first without hesitation.

This really is the perfect app if you want a video gallery. It easily places videos from popular sites like youtube straight from the link, or you can upload your own video files and it converts them for you.

What more can you want? Oh yeah, AND it's free. How ungrateful does one have to be to rate so much quality and so many features a 1/5? There's nothing wrong with it, and if you can't get it working but you read reviews saying that it works fine then obviously you are doing something wrong.

This is a solid 5/5 with no need to look any further. :D
If you want to use this as a YouTube! gallery on your site, the free version will work... It's buggy, but it'll work.

If you more than that, look elsewhere. The code is heavy and extremely buggy. FFMPEG integration in the "pro" version is nothing but a fairy tale. Check the mfg's forum - there are multiple complaints concerning FFMPEG, and I've not found a post from any user that claims they have FFMPEG conversion working with this product. It's a fallacy.

Support is virtually nil, so is running on J1.5.

Payment/verification system is flawed at best. These guys put way too much energy in making sure they get the user's money, and not nearly enough in product development.
Has a lot of cool features like a cb comments plugin and a neat design and cool organization, howeve it has php erros, the plug ins do not install and most of the videos that I tried adding would not play or had major errors. Isnt even worth it for free :( They should really go back to the drawing board on this one. It should not be made available on this site!

I've installed the component twice: on localhost and in a server.

The component has a link in the backend called 'Diagnostics' where the componet says if the perms of the componet are OK. In localhost you can change the owner of the directories and it will roolz (only in theory).

If you install the component on a server and you must give perms 777 to the root joomla site. This is because the programmers of the componet has chossen the root directory to install the upload directories to the component. (INCREDIBLE!!!)

But the big question apperars when you try to use the component (The programmers says with small caps that the componet has bugs). The componet only is valid to local videos and moreover the component is done with bugs to force to the users to buy the PRO VERSION.

For to buy the PRO VERSION you must donate 40US$ at least. The programmers make up the sell of the program using the word 'Donate'.

Well. like I'm so stupid "I've donated" 40US$ to this people. I was hopeing for a tarball update and some instructions. NOT NOT NOT NOT. The upgrade pro version is through an extrange link which one appear on the backend. I think this link is done to avoid someone could modify the code.

Don't try to buy (They say Donate) this component using the localhost(the way to buy it is through the backend) because you must to contact with the boss of the component cause the componet no works.

Their forum has a lot of questions without response. :-0

Extrange people, extrange componet, extrange donations, extrange sellers.

An excellent rating simply does not cut it in my book for this extension! I have recently started using video on my real estate website for property videos (and on youtube) and this extension just makes my life as easy and simple as can be... My site has an extremely professional look and amazing video functionality now!!

Plus it helps me make $$ on my site with LongTail.

I've tried a couple along the way (including hwshare) and Seyret has to be the best video solution bar none for Joomla 1.x!

I have posted in their own forums... HELP? Does not exist.

THIS program does NOT work on 1.5..it's BETA FOLKS.
Can't upload... I read on their own forums some things won't work unless you have PRO version which basically they ask for a 'donation' ... "donations" aren't set amounts but they are asking for 40 or more dollars for 'donation' for a program that doesn't work.

The errors I get are on both the front end and back end. I've asked and read all they have and no answers. DO NOT 'donate' to get this. I'm glad I didn't. WASTE of an entire day for me and I'm not a novice but I'm going to fix their program for them.

Try to upload a video and it takes you directly back to the video page with NO upload.

Use the backend [which they suggest you don't which is questionable at best] and multiple errors happen.

They have BETA features but yet don't call the program BETA...that is confusing. Basically you have Joomla 1. program they are trying to make useable for Joomla 1.5.

Don't bother..not worth the time or frustration with LITTLE or NO support. I've Pm'ed the 'creator' and got NO response. Go get something that doesn't require you 'donate'.

Installed it today and worked fine immediately. No problems so far. Look at the diagnostic tab if you have trouble with this component.

This component is great, I use it now more than a year and it works fine. I got some problems but they are solved now. Support of the site is good but sometimes you don't get any answer.

I am active at the forum of seyret and I help people with problems, and people help me with my problems too.

The 1.5 native version is coming in February for testing only (no live sites) and the version wich is save to use on live sites will come in April.
Looking at this component it looked ok. My customer purchased it "In a hurry" Because he wanted all the features. A foolish move to do so before checking out their own forum with literaly hundreds of unanswered support requests. The system is so buggy that the developers do not even answer questions on the forum. There is no email or contact information to request a refund or even ask a question. It isnt until you come to joomla that you can find anywhere to email this developer.

The script is very buggy with many of the features left hanging in the wind. The most unanswered issue on the forum seems to be
VIDEOS WILL NOT PLAY
This is really an important feature of any video sharing component. And if it does not work then how can you expect a 40 dollar minimum donation. Especially since there is nowhere to get support.

The description says you can put ads on your system and then find out those ads are basically a way for someone else to make money. You really do not have much control over the ads system at all. Basically you pay twice to put someone elses ads on your site. And everyone makes money from it and you get the least share.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCRIPT.
I do not know why Joomla as great a product as it is has not gone to this site with all the reviews here and told them look your making us look bad either support your product or we will put a warning on our site about your component and remove it from our downloads area.
I purchased the pro version.

It looks great and has allot of skins and options that look nice. everything worked well except the upload feature. After a week trying to get it to work I moved it to a VPS and I still can't get it to work. The answer to the upload feature is that it is the server settings. well I did read all of the post or at least 50 of them with all kinds of so called fixes with allot of request that went unanswered. It's more like the users are the ones trying to figure it out.

The author says we need to respect his time for development. Well I paid for a product and I expect respect as a consumer.

The long tail feature where you can make monetize your site forces you and share your profit. Not cool. I should be able to use what ever service i want.

Overall it's not bad but in order for it to be really nice you have to get the pro to get the skins and an additional module. If your upload doesn't it seems your on your own.

We have a Pro registration and an old version of Seyret. We will not be updating. If they had installed this ad scheme as an option that allowed for other services, at the will of the customer, this would all be a non-issue. That said, locking paying customers into a revenue sharing service is not tolerable and I will be advocating amongst the partners on our site to use another video platform on 1.5.

If the situation changes, of course, we will stick with Seyret. But not under present restrictive circumstances. Not after paying for the license.
It's sad, really. Seyret is a good platform. But their desire to monetize their development activities has caused them to take one step too far. Paying customers should not have to even begin to consider ad service lock-in.
This component shows a lot of promise, but there's enough down side to it that I've pretty much decided to abandon it for hwdMediaShare. The HWD plugin is not as pretty or as well developed yet, but has none of the problems that I found with this one. I paid for the "pro" version because it's the only version that has pre- and post-roll ads.

Biggest problem for me is that the only pre- and post-roll advertising solution offered by Seyret is one that requires you to share your profits with a system called Longtail. And I find it offensive frankly that they don't tell you up front that you have no way to keep 100% of your profits.

Here's what the Longtail page says before you sign up:

"Our AdSolution is completely self-serve. It allows you to embed any ad tag from any ad network into your website's media player. Simply sign up, login to our Dashboard and you can be running pre-roll, overlay mid-roll and post-roll ads in minutes!"

But when you sign up, you are given three options:

1. Longtail gets half your ad space and keeps 100% of the profits.

2. Longtail gets all your ad space and shares the profit with you.

3. You use 100% of your ad space using whatever ads you like, but you have to pay them a percentage.

Considering that every video component I've seen lets you set up your own pre- and post-roll ads, I can only see this forced use of Longtail as a very negative down side of using what is otherwise a pretty good Joomla component.

I also found that there were problems uploading videos or even adding them. I added two or three videos from youtube, and the system stopped accepting them entirely after that. This is probably an issue that can be resolved, but the forced sharing of my video ad space makes it not worth looking in to.
