This is an utility component which helps with creating and managing Joomla 1.5 translations (NB: It does not manage content, only the site language)

* Create Edit Delete languages (XML files and folders).
* Create Edit Delete Publish Unpublish Checkin Checkout language files (INI files).
* Create Packaged Joomla! Language Installation Files
* Customisable Reference Language (defaults to en-GB)
* Shows translation progress of individual language files against the reference language.
* Shows translation progress for entire client-language sets against the reference language.
* Search all the files in a language set for phrase(s) with customisable CSS highlighting of matches.
* Customisable AutoCorrect of text entry (handy for unusual characters/diacritics).
* Customisable change of single-quotes to backticks or vice-versa.
* Customisable global replace of a key=phrase combination (handy when the same combo is in many language files).
* Automatically create missing INI files.
* Highlight phrases in an INI file that have yet to be translated.
* Highlight and create or delete extra phrases (ones that don't exist in the reference language).

I love this component and until I switched to 1,.7 I have installed it on every site I build. It can be a bit confusing for some of my less savvy customers, but that is because they have trouble understanding that they may need to change one word in many places for it to change site wide. But that is definitely NOT the fault of this component, its just the way Joomla works.
I would love to know if this is going to be updated for Joomla 1.7??

I am making my own component and have the need for a language file component. My lang file is big and if I use your component with my file it works really slow...
It takes about 45 seconds to load the page after each row edited, to slow for me...
Also frontend editing wouldbe great:)

I didn't need to translate anything... just needed a NOOB way to easily find and edit text on my JA_Purity_II template.
This did the trick! Short and sweet!
Just make sure that when you go to download you use the "1.5.2 2010-09-02 18:00:00-05 com_fftranslation.zip
" version, since it is updated for the latest PHP versions that you likely use on your domain.

Only suggestion is to include an option to copy missing tags from a language to other. A lot of translations are missing items, and Joomla do not use the English default, instead it prints the tag. A batch copy of missing items from one language to the other would save lots of time.

This is a very handy tool for translating language files of Joomla! core, components, modules, plugins and templates.
The translation progress is clearly shown for each file. Strings not translated yet are color coded so that you can easily locate them. Extra strings are collected for you to review and maybe delete.
Once you are done with translation, with one button click a language installation file is created for you to deploy.
Highly recommended for any one needs to do language file translations.
