moseasymedia ModulePlugin

moseasymedia 2.0.1 released. See "Last Update: 2008-04-17 Release 2.0.1" section below.

moseasymedia initially developed to be a content mambot to utterly ease the embedding of media files in Mambo content with the idea of giving the users a high level of flexibility for assigning different file types to different media plugins, changing embed attributes on the fly, the and generating a clean multi-browser compatible output.

moseasymedia supports media plugins and media players that support wmv, wma, divx, midi, avi, mpg, mpeg, asf, asx, swf, flv, dcr, dir, mov, mp4, ram, rv, rpm, ra, mp3, playlist files (RSS, Atom, XSPF) extensions to name a few. That pretty much covers all the media formats that exist today. Under the circumstances when the media type cannot be determined from the extension, moseasymedia tries to match the media's host domain with it's supported players. Some highlights from moseasymedia 1.0.x; moseasymedia family is extended with the addition of a replicatable module “mod_moseasymedia” and an editor extension “moseasymedia Editor Button”. In order to make the the content authors' lives easier, moseasymedia 1.0.3 bundles a couple of Web based Flash media players, such as Jeroen Wijering's JW Players 3.11, Fabricio Zuardi's XSPF Web Player. Addition of Web based Flash players made embedding FLV files, or creating playlists so much easier than ever before. CSS support is also introduced in 1.0.3 release, so that the designers can dress up their players as they wish.

Many of us already dealt with the dreaded “Click to activate” ActiveX problem with Internet Explorer browsers. moseasymedia neatly gets around that annoying detail giving the viewers a smoother browsing experience. moseasymedia 1.0.x comes with a 48 page manual that should cover all the basis of media embedding in Mambo and Joomla.

AND, LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST moseasymedia IS J! 1.5 COMPATIBLE.

Last Update 2008-04-17 Release 2.0.1
After the short lived 2.0.0 release, here is a new one addressed some of the immediate problems.
* moseasymediaWindowsMediaPlayerVideo.php was erroring out because of a left over null variable
* Sanity check for possible typos in player= attrib. When you typo player=SomeOtherPlayer , you'll get an error.
* ThickboxExists param added to not to include Thickbox twice.
* eregi bug in the function that determines the player by file extension is fixed.
* displayheight param was being ignored in FLV player. Now it's not.
* strip_tags applied to {moseasymedia ....} tag, incase there is some etc. got stuck in the tag.
* You can put the spaces in the title tag for JW Players, but the trick is; to put %20 instead of spaces .

*** Download process is a lot simpler now. Just grab it from SourceForge.net . Link to SourceForge for downloads is in our wiki.

Report

I just repaired a Joomla-1.0.15 site that was having problems displaying various media files in IE7 & IE8. So I removed all of the various media players and installed this one. Now everything, video & MP3 files, work perfectly. And being able to use a playlist is nice too. This is a REALLY GOOD extension, & it is simple to use. Highly Recommended
Once you download the bot and the mod for J1.5, it's very easy to set up and configure.

I need to embed youtube videos on my site.

To use with Youtube:

In the Youtube url, replace the "?" and the "=" with a "/" and you're good to go.

So easy. So clean. Thanks for this simple, yet powerful M and P.

I had it configured in about 15 minutes.

Brilliant!

Wish I had found this before I put too many hours trying to get AllVideos to work.

Very easy to install ! Easy to use and configure.
The problem with IE 7 can be easy solve with very few changes.
In /mambots/contents/moseasymedia/, change the file that you need to use. For example, i've changed moseasymediaJWMediaPlayer.php (because I want to play *.swf file with this). It is enough to change the line 136 :
$embedString .= '';

with this :
$embedString .= '';

So, you should add defer="defer" in which php file from this directory that you want to use

After exceptionally being confronted with major bugs in Explorer voor the AllVideos plugin i tried out a coupe of other solutions and finally settled for this great plugin which allows to insert your video by one simple line: {moseasymedia media=http://www.mysite.be/videos/myvideo.flv} . That's it! It worked immediately and after that i found out there was still a million cute little things i could customize, way more than AllVideos ever did for me. This plugin was written with a great eye for detail. Merci beaucoup!
Owner's reply

Thrilled to read your fantastic comments. I am speechless :) Thank you very much.

ps: Had to put moseasy development aside for a bit -since there were no major issues arouse in 2.0.1 release-. Hopefully in a short while, a new version will come out (utilizing YUI to avoid javascript namespace conflicts etc..)

First comment I have made about a Joomla extension as I've only been using J 1.5 for two weeks.

Just wanted to say how happy I am with this extension. It does exactly what it says on the tin and saves me trying to learn complex code ( I'm a front end designer forgive me!)

Wanted to point out though, to save others the couple or so hours of frustration I had at 2am this morning. THERE ARE TWO BITS TO INSTALL on Joomla 1.5. I was getting all sorts of php errors until I read on a forum post somewhere that you also have to install the bot! aha!. Maybe that is clearly written in the docs but somehow I missed it.

After that it was plain sailing. Really easy to use and configure. well done. Now all I need is some media to put in it :)

Might be the easiest way to get video into the content or a module for your site.

Only wish there were more options to skin the player.

So easy to use, saves time and effort in writing code to insert Flash into content.

This is the best media publisher i ever see for joomla. proper code, a lot of features. Oh yes. just change the image for the presentation it does not really fit. Keep u good work
i wanted to build a Internet radio directory but on that allows the users to listen to the station without the need to click anything (one site you need to do 3 clicks not goos) i did run in to a small problem but it was solved by posting it to the developers website and i received a reply that work and sorted out the problem

this extension is you can put enough stars on the page for it
This is a great extension for joomla 1.5... it is very easy to insert all media files into you content and module positions.

My expectations were also far exceeded in terms of support - I had a couple of questions which were answered very quickly!

Thanks very much!

I have tried so many streaming media extensions and this is the best by a country mile!!

Thank you, this has saved my life.

well done. this plugin/module works very well AND even better, the developer is exceedingly helpful and quick to respond to inquiry.

love the implementation of the plugin and module. makes adding video very flexible.

can't say enough good thing.
I used the moseasymedia 1.0.2 and was delightful with the functionality but the new moseasymedia 1.0.3 is the best!

I have a little problem with the new version since it didn't function at the first try...but the support on the site is the best, you have just to post your doubt or problem in the forum and the crew answer at the moment and try to help you until it get's done.

Pros:
-It's really easy to install it.
-The button become more beautiful.
-You can show any video and media with this mambot.
-Easy customization and best use of css files in this version.

Contras:
-It's a little tricky download the mambot, but at the end of the day you get it.
-You have to publish the mambot before you use it. Otherwise it doesn't initiate its variables.

Overall I give it two thumbs up!

Thank you OCS!
After downloading this gadget and acquiring perfect technicall support, i still can not find proper words to describe the power and charm of this extension. It works perfect, bug-free and has good option poll for customization.
Five stars is the only choice i have, because this thing in this reviewer's opinion, is revolutionary.
Last thing that needs to be mentioned, download and try, donate if you can.

I will say that it was a bit of a pain in the rear to get through their website's process to download this file. BUT, it was totally worth it and I do plan on donating to these guys on payday. :) So, if you've gone to the site to try this out and then backed out because of the download process...I have to say IT IS WORTH the extra time. Also, the site looks and acts like you have to pay for it upfront...but you DON'T. Just click "go back" and you'll be sent the download link. Having said that...after you discover what a great tool this is, please donate to these guys. Great work...thanks for your work! :)

great extension, best support i've seen in the open source world in a long time.
mambot and the module installs cleanly, and no problems during the installation and the configuration. looks professional.
the developer responds to the emails and the forum very promptly and even helped with our site's other problems.
mambot works like a charm and the module totally changed the face and quality of our site.
highly recommended.

This is such an easy way to publish videos! In fact, one wonders why a solution like this is not built into Joomla and all CMS, blogging engines, etc.

Actually getting the download through the publisher's website was a little awkward, not intuitive, but the effort and the small registration fee were well rewarded by the functionality of the plugin. Bravo!

I can't say enough good things about this plugin/bot.

First and most important - its real easy to use. Just download, install, and then reference the content on the page per the syntax in helpfile.

Second, the support behind the scenes is beyond expected. How many times do you get someone willing to help you tweak the plugin to your needs and even help you with things unrelated to that particular plugin. This group even helped me diagnose a CSS issue with different browsers. After allowing some access to my development site, a few changes and walla - Things are even better than before. This plugin is well worth it and does exactly what it says it does. In my case I was interested in embedding flash files in joomla static pages. If you look under the hood so to speak (examine the .javascript files used), moseasymedia even uses the much discussed and researched methods discussed in the css forums for embedding flash files. In other words, this plugin wasn't just thrown together without regard to how it works in different browsers and under different circumstances. The author obviously took some time to incorporate modular content that has been proven over a variety of case studies and real world usage. Well Done OCS!

Best of all - Support is there and ther really do help!

I have been using moseasymedia for a few months now. I had a problem with sizing the media on the page. I emailed the developer and he helped me get the correct settings and helped me until the problem was solved. It is very easy to use and makes adding video and audio files a snap.
