I wanted a fairly simple way of showing some data in tables on our site. I wanted alternate row colours ("zebra") for ease of reading, and ideally I wanted sortable columns and a rudimentary search facility. This extension does all of that surprisingly well. The data didn't need to be editable from the frontend, but this is a bonus. I agree the methodolgy is a bit quirky and obscure at first - in effect you just set up the data repository in the backend and unless you're importing data (via csv), everything to do with data is done via the frontend. In essence, you do more via the frontend than you expect to, so there's a bit of switching from one to the other! To ease this, as well as the "default view" menu links, I set up extra menus to "administrate" with appropriate limited permissions to save time. Once set up and running, these can largely be removed.

I had a problem with the tables displaying in IE7 (which may also apply to other IE versions) where it was ignoring the column width sent by the code. It appears this falls into the trap of well-known IE7 non-compliance "nasties" (around nested tables). I've fixed it (I think) by adding a "width: 100%;" to the #etetable-tform ID in the eventtablecss.css file. Apart from saying "thanks" for such a great extension, I'm posting this mainly in case anyone else has a similar problem. It may save a few hours (days?) of research!

Don't know what the "events" part of the name is supposed to imply, but this is a great general purpose spreadsheet component. Everything from viewing to editing to administration is available from the front-end (based on user permissions set in the backend). I am currently using it for a simple sales lead tracker for one of my clients. Sales agents can add to and edit entries in their leads spreadsheet & their supervisor is able to view them remotely. The popup for editing is slightly annoying, would be nicer to have in-field editing. Would also be great to be able to query multiple tables. But as it is, it is a great option for maintaining simple lists and collections of data. Great job!

I never managed to get it working. Neither their documentation or forum is any good. Fought with it for 1 hour+ and then uninstalled it.

From what I see, it seems to be a great tool, but I have to say I could not understand how it works... The documentation is not that clear and most of the support is in german.

This is a simple idea yet it is so hard to find an extension to do it.
This one does the job quite well. Its easy to set up, data imports and exports well. It has a pretty good interface for editing the table.
There are only 2 missing things I can think of.
1) There is no option to add a scroll bar or break for the columns. For most people this wont be an issue but once you hit 15 or so columns it flows off the screen and you cant see the data for the additional columns. Unfortunately this makes it pretty unusable to me.
2) It would be nice if there was a button for the CSV export on the front end.
Apart from those minor issues this is a good plugin.

The component is absolutely fantastic!
It almost strikes at 10. Although I miss some options, it's so simple, yet so powerfull and intuitive to use. It's free, and that's almost unbelievable.
Yet, strivig for perfection, it would be highly appreciated to add the following funcionality to the component:
1. Sections and categories - with the according menu item types. If the one would have a 20-30 tables, it would be inconvenient to create a separate menu item for each of them.
2. User name field - to fill it in automatically on row addition(either real name, or login name)
3. Copy table option - with all permissions, custom parameters, category, etc. Possibility to copy table structure itself, without the filled in data.
4. Possibility to fill in some default data into according colums based on user name.
5. Is it possible to build initial table with 100% width?
6. If the column is of DATE type, is it possible to fill it in with TODAY date at the moment of row addition?

This really clever component has filled my needs perfectly. Simple to install, really fast support from the developer and the ability to import a .csv into a joomla table and allow specific users the right to edit, or to only view. 10 out of 10 for a brilliant, intelligent component.
And it's free. Thank you

I would like to thank the developer(s) for this very easy and efficient extension! It's perfect to present a calendar in an easy-to-use table, but I am using it also to show ranking from sports and it works really well, particularly with the images/logo handling!!!!

Minor bug: I noticed that the sorting option, from the backend, is working with 1 Option only. If I set a larger number (4 or 5) nothing happens, and if then I click the "Choose" button I receive an error message. This is really a minor thing as I am ordering my data in an Excel table, that I regularly upload in .csv format, anyhow I though it could be worth mention it.

Suggestion: as others suggested, a module would be great as it would allow to show the tables in different position inside the page, instead that on one dedicated page only. I would like to take some time to try to realize such a module, but I am a beginner and it could require some time. I will let you know if I will be successfull !

Great job !

Thanks,
perhaps you can make a bug report on joomlacode.org...

On event-table-edit.com you can download, a module, that displays latest events, perhaps this is a start for you...

Used it on 2 sites now. Easy install. Takes a little time to make the layout and rights as desired. Some very minor bugs.

-An additional datatype 'name' would be convenient.

Brilliant in it's simplicity.

This is exactly the extension I was looking for. A table in the frontend which can be easily changed by the users, btw young volleyball players. We use it as a tool for the players to edit whether they participate on events, if they have a driver and so on....

Hi!

I had been looking for a simple list component for my peakbagging site, and this is by far the best I've found.

But I have one single problem I can't seem to fix by myself. I'd need the urls in my table to target the current window, not a _blank window as they are all local links. I tried to find a way to hack into the BBcode files myself, but that's only a workaround and I'm not skilled enough.

If there was a way to add a BBcode tag that targets the current window, like the new [url] from PHPBB3, it would be an advantage.

I downloaded the 2.1.0 aplha and it seems really impressive. The only strange thing that I found was
- when i click in the Actions column to order, the delete
popup appears while i only want to order the row
- when i insert a new row, the delete icon does not
immediately appear for this row. I need to click save
ordering for that to appear.
Anyways, overall its an excellent powerful extension.
I would suggest the following must have features:
- there should be a way to insert Foreign Key fields. for eg. a basic requirement that I had was to insert the user_id of the current logged in user in a user_id column, so as to understand which user inserted the data.
If this is provided, then it should be used to filter the data visible to the user if it is inserted by him. So that he can only modify his own inserted data. Only admin should be able to modify ALL the data.
- also it would be neat if it were possible to integrate the users with the Community builder extension and provide a tab in the profile to view the user entered data.
- it would also help to insert different foreign keys, apart from the user ID, so that when the user specifies a foreign key type, then a drop down of all the possible values appears in the field automatically.
- also a search feature can be provided to search for individual user rows and other foreign keys.
Great going guys, am sure you must have already thought of these requirements, waiting to see them soon.
Thanks a lot for a great extension once again.

Thanks for your ideas!
The best way for feature requests is to enter them on joomlacode.org.
And the big problem is, that there's no team to built this component. At the moment - at least with coding it - there's only an I. And this is much to less to have many features implemented. So I think the only way to have this features is to join the coding team....

I just needed a calender for listing all sport matches we had to play. A lot of those calenders out there are beautifull but with way too many features. With this component I can make the calender myself and use it for lots more. Simple, but effective. Keep up the good work! Would be nice though if it came with (a) module(s).
Owner's reply

What exactly would you like in the module?

thanx so much for that nice component
It's so simple and powerful

while working on it I tried to search for a module to show my tables at the frontpage but there was nothing. I think that such a module is important in many cases
Owner's reply

Hi,
Ah I think it's not neccessary to have a module. Make a menu link to the table and set it to standard in the joomla backend menu manager.

Thank you for this great extension!

I was looking for a way to make a table of rates that my vacation rentals client could easily update. I looked and looked before getting the idea to look under Event Calendars.

You can make any kind of table with this tool. As many columns as you need, it seems. And it edits from the front end.

It took me a while to figure out at first, because you set it up mostly from the front end, but, if a newbie like me can use it, then anyone should be able to.

Keep up the good work!

What a lovely tool! Easy to install, configure, and use.
I only wish I could import from excel or similar (probably can, just haven't figured it out yet).

Kudos and thanks!

This is also integrated in the next version :-)
