Egxact Revision Manager - Version Control
We have just released a stable version for Joomla 1.0 after having gone one month without any bug report on our last beta release for the Joomla 1.0 platform.
Our intention is to release a stable for Joomla 1.5 by the end of November which will just be a renaming of our Joomla 1.5 beta release that is circulating currently.
- This extension requires registration to download.
The only support option is via email which I will say was quick.
I am however disppointed with the lack of self-support options:
* No user's forum
* No knowledgebase
* "Support/Issue tracking" and "Support/Mailing lists" on the Ernitech website are broken
For the money, I feel Ernitech should invest some time into making the website useful for existing customers.
All, that being said - this is still the best component of it's kind.
the email support was fast and very good.
this is a must have component
My only gripe would be, as others, to delete revisions / purge revisions from the database.
We are developing a "wikipedia" type of a website. So you can imagine hundreds of thousands of pages with thousands of editors making hundreds of revisions. My database is going to get bloated very quickly and my site will be loading very slow!
That would be a great addition.
You can switch on/off the ability to delete versions in our latest version. Thank you for your review. I really should start monitoring extensions.joomla.org
I had some problems after installing the 1.5 beta version (unable to add new articles / uninstall component) - after quite a few emails to the developer we got the issues fixed (and then the next version 1.1.7 beta was released with fixes included)
Options I would like
1. Ability for super-administrator to delete versions. This is essential especially when developing sites - you don't want to sit with 50 versions of a document you can't get rid of. I realise this is for corporate audit-trail use but super-admins really should be able to delete versions.
2. Option to auto-publish latest version. Currently you need to manually specify which version is published which adds an unnecessary step to the workflow if the latest version is always going to be published.
Both of these options should be in a "General component settings" - If I had these options it would be a 5 / 5 component
I realise the 1.5 version is still in beta - the roadmap looks promising. Support is decent, although a forum would be a bonus. All in all, highly recommended - looking forward to the future of this component
Both requirements you listed are there in our latest beta. I'm sorry about not monitoring extensions.joomla.org.
Couple of suggestions (some of which may be easily solved as I have not fully explored every bit of the plugin):
1) A way to set a max number of versions limit.
2) A way to pull up the latest UNPUBLISHED version of an article automatically (if proper user rights).
3) Compare versions feature was a little buggy. Made a few changes and it didn't catch the modifications.
I have a couple of suggestions:
1. The ability to delete a version would be good as it is easy to create more than one version if you press the save button again in error - even if you haven't made a change.
2. The ability to set a forward publishing date for a new version. This is particularly useful if, for example, some new regulations come into force on a particular day and you have prepared the changes ahead of time.
Keep up the great work guys - this is the power of the Joomla! community.
Cheers and thanks, David ;-)
hi,
thanks a lot for your feedback and suggestions! :)
1. We've thought about including this, but as we designed our product to be for enterprises, which require this as an audit function (no deleting), so they can track who has done what/or not. Of course, we fully understand where you're coming from, and if we might consider a customization for this in the future.
2. The forward publishing date is within our roadmap for future releases, and we hope to release it soon. *we have to apologize about not being able to release our roadmap as we've been so busy working on our products to get up our wiki - but we'll try to remedy that asap*
Thanks, and keep a lookout for our future releases :)
Very great component and easy use.
the install is easy and interface very clear and productive
I love !
just one suggestion : add the system versionning on frontend
Thanks
Thanks a lot for your compliments and feedback!
Our beta version is now out, with system versioning on the front end as you suggested. Hope you enjoy using it!
