Missing Metadata module Module

The Missing Metadata module adds a panel to the Control Panel of the Joomla Administrator interface that lists any published articles that have empty metadescription or metakeys fields. Search engines (particularly Google) use the metadescription text as the summary text for site-listings displayed in search results. Any articles that fails to include this metadata will suffer in their web presence and search engine ranking. After installation, be sure to active the module in the Module Manager > Administrator modules pane and set the position to CPanel so the module will appear properly.

Note: The link points to the Joomla 1.5 version of the module. Please visit the home page to download the 1.0 version.

Report

Hi,

This module installs easily and then it took me a while to figure out why I did not see anything.

- As with all first you need to enable to module. Note that this is an Administrators module, so you first need to select the admin tab.
- The module is standard listed on the "left" position, but that position is not visible in the control panel. So choose the position "cpanel" instead and it then all works

The module is great in listing the document that miss metadata information, great work !

Hi All,

10 out of 10 for some very useful information but as mentioned by others it needs to be compatible with the JoomlatWork SEF patch.

After installing I was pleased to see it list articles I knew I had been a bit lazy with but I was disappointed when I filled in a few of the missing meta data items but the module still reported them as empty and this is obviously due to how the SEF patch handles meta data. It would be cool if it wasn't too much effort for the developer to make this module strictly compatible with the really popular meta data modifiers.

It is possible to set meta data for each article and for each menu item, testing reveals that menuitem meta-data overrides article metadata both of which override global metadata (never EVER use a global description but always make sure your site's keywords go out with the page if you can't be bothered making specific keywords for it, anyway) so making this kind of module configurable to allow us to either list ALL articles that don't have individual metadata or just articles that it is possible for public visitors to view without a UNIQUE description going out on the page.

That's my 2 cents on the topic, thanks.

Rob.
Should be standard on Joomla!. Great stuff

This is an awesome admin module! I agree that it should be included into Joomla.

I've been wanting to sort through my articles for a while now to add metadata but just don't have the patience to open every article and check the metadata info. This mod installed quickly and does exactly what it says in the description.

I'll definitely be installing this on all my sites!

the problem is that if you have lots of articels it creates a list of all your articles...

them you can see if you have a metadata in the article...with a yes of no...

In a way that what is design to do !!! but was not very helpful if you can not edit the metadata easily. You have to go for each article one by one...

If you want to have META-DATA in all of your content, this is the right extension.

Very effective for those that management a lot of articles
If your serious about SEO your Joomla website then this is one of the pluggins you need to install.

easy flash install - activate and vwalla!

Suggestions:
- Wish it had a special button that will give me the metadata and keyword section without having to jump to the article page!
- A feature that will do a quick scan of the article and suggest keywords according to content.
Anything to speed up my presence on the web with completeness is a wonderful add!

Excellent module, keeps track of your missing metadata, I find it really useful, should nearly be part of joomla by default
bymike123acc on October 31, 2008
Writing this for two reasons. First and main reason is that I use this extension now as part of Joomla. Not sure what I would do without it! Hence the 5 stars.

The other reason is to add my thoughts re. one of the reviews below. For me, it would not make sense to have archived articles included. It would get very complicated. Surely that's why they are archived? Furthermore, there is a contact for the owner / developer on the homepage. You just have to look closer.

Wonderful component, helps me track what's going on with metatags!
Would be great if I could exclude categories, like (comments, blogs and others)

Thank you.
Faults:

1) It can't see archived articles
2) It opens static content items as regular article items--saving will change their status

Module link and email to author's address/website is wrong or defunct (uses joomlajumpstart.org--.com is active) and author's website has NO forum, NO comments, NO contact form.

Contrary to the author's numerous press releases that this and another minor module is the holy grail of Joomla extensions, it is vastly inferior to the free iJoomla metatag generator component, which is actually supported and updated periodically by the developer/s.
