Lottery ComponentLanguage

It is rather more a raffle than a lottery extension and allows up to 5 answers to one question. You can define various raffles running until individual deadlines. Most of it ought to be selfexplaining. It comes with german and english language files. Help in further translations would be appreciated. Also the english version nedded some 'native' support. Joom!Fish xml file now ready for download!
Added a patch for download comprising a captcha and a minor change of the layout (looks better in IE now).
A native alpha-version of the component for Joomla 1.5.3-1.5.9 is available for download. It allows up to 6 answers and the option of a text answer, and it uses some of the advanced features of Joomla 1.5.x in the backend administration. Please test it and give me some feedback.
And there is the version 1.5.0.d for registered users.
It comprises a Captcha option, allows to copy lotteries and solves some minor problems with php short-tags.
Besides there is Joomfish support available as well as Romanian ,Polish and Spanish language files.
Due to some compatibility issues with Jommla 1.5.10 there is a new version 1.5.0.e available for registered users. It comprises the additional Polish and Romanian language files as well.
There is a patch for version 1.5.0.e available in the logged-in users section, that allows to disable the "Require Answer" functionality.

It works so well! I use this on most of my sites running competitions and never have a problem with it. I asked the designer for an extra field as companies wanted an opt-in option on the component so they could use the email data and send out newsletters to them. It was done in 3 days! Great support, well done everyone at Hoamzoin esp. Franz.

If you plan to manage a competition, a lottery, or simply to increase the level of interaction with your site's visitors, this component will totally fit your needs: just a few clicks to set it up and you are ready to start. thank you!
It's not often you find a component that does EXACTLY what you needed. This one fulfilled all my requirements. No fuss, no bother. It just worked. Easy to configure. Easy to use. Perfect!

Congratulations on an excellent contribution.
Lottery (or raffle as I use it as) works great. Keeps track of all entries. Designer was helpful in writing back to any questions. Was able to edit text to my particular need after designer helped. Thanks!
Thanks for the great job, Franz!
I have installed the 1.5 version and I had some functional problems. After I gave up trying to figure where is the problem, I asked Franz for help.
His reaction was impressed me, he spent yesterday some hours from his time and till the problem was fixed he doesn’t renounced. The problem was a bad setting in the SEF component and now the lottery works fine. With this component on my site I can offer an attractive way to involve my customers in our promotions.
Many thanks again, Franz.

I like this. Have it on my old 1.0.x site.
Any reason for being unable to remove the email input as a required entry when I dont have user or admin email selected?

Thank You. I changed that in the 1.5.x version. I did not have the intention to support the 1.0.x version any further, but I might change my mind, if there was some more feedback on this matter.

I've been using this component on our Joomla 1.0 site since a couple of years and installed it now on the 1.5 version. This component does exactly what it says and makes running quizzes on our site a breeze. I had some problems with the 1.5 installation, but Franz reacted immediately and helped me out all the way. His support is fantastic, as is the component itself. Allthough it's free, it certainly is worth a little donation. If you want to run quizzes on your site, don't look any further: this is what you need. One of Joomla's little gems IMHO.

I have been waiting for a component like this ever since I started using joomla may be 3 years ago. Not only has the developer Franz got the idea perfect he has done an amazing job on the admin side. I look forward to future developments with this to incorporate more idea and functions. Think outside the square mate and you will have something to be really proud of. My community loves it (well may be the prizes they get :p)

I'm new on joomla and needed a component like this one, I think it's very usefull and help full.

The only thing I need is the captcha option. I saw your raffle page at http://www.hoamzoin.de and I noticed all the raffles have a Security Code (captcha) section but when I intalled the component I didn't see that option to configure it on my site (in the component properties).

Is this captcha option included on the Lottery component? how can I added/use it for this component? Did I missed something?

Thanks again for your help.

Thanks a lot for your review. The captcha for Joomla 1.0.x is included in the com_lottery_patch_1.1.0.d.zip downloadable from www.hoamzoin.de. Captcha for Joomla 1.5.x is still experimental. Please leave a message in the forum at www.hoamzoin.de if you want a preliminary version.

I have been looking for a component to manage simple competitions for along time and this component does the job very well.

While I agree with the other reviews that there are a number of enhancements that could make this a more powerful component (such as text based answers), I can say that after contacting the owner and discussing some modifications the owner was very helpful, was able to make the modifications I needed and the level of support was excellent!

I recommend to anyone that if this component is close to what you need contact the owner and discuss enhancements.

I like this component and its basic features, although I must say there's a lot of work to do to make it an excellent extension for Joomla.

At the moment there's an option of having several different raffles at the time, but no option of having several different questions under one raffle. This would allow the use of the component as a quiz also, not only as a raffle with one question.

There are also some code changes essential, but knowing this is a new component, I think it has potential for growth and improvement.

Thanks a lot for your review and please let me know which code changes are essential from your point of view. I am an absolute joomla newbie, so I am gratefull for any hints on improvements for the next version.
I am currently planning a revised version of the component, in regard to functionality as well as security.
I am still unsure, whether I should implement the feature of several different questions. I posted the component in this category, because I could not find any closer, but it was originally not intended to be a quiz-component. There have been other people wishing for poll-features, and I think that is done fine by the poll-component. Of course one could implement all kinds of features. In bavaria we call this attempt "Eierlegende Woll-Milch-Sau", meaning a pig that gives eggs, milk, wool and meat at the same time.

I have been looking for at component like this for a long time now and was happy to read about this. The installation was easy and very straight forward. Creating a lottery with a question was also easy and so was publishing it. One thing I did miss out first time was that I forgot to look at the parameters after adding the lottery to my menu - a note about this would be great!

One thing I miss is the possibility to have more than one question. Maybe this is an upcomming feature, but since I don´t know German I don´t know.

With some added features such as multiple questions and maýbe other ways to answear, like in a textfield this will be a really good component!

Thanks a lot for your review. I will put more clearly in the next readme-file the role of the parameters of the menu for the component.
I am currently thinking about the possibility of more than one question, but am not sure yet whether I should implement it and what would be the best way to do so.
What would be the functionality you would expect from other ways to answer, like in a textfield? How to evaluate the answer? Parse it for some given keywords?. Or just store it for some unknown later evaluation?
I will open a new english forum on my page for the discussion of additional features and other improvements that could be done for the next version of the component.
