Every property becomes a searchable field in the frontend module cp_search. It can be used to organize and re-organize your contents and to create new ways of searching articles.
With the recently added module mod_cpcloud, all tags can be displayed as tags cloud.
The tags can be displayed before, after or anywhere in the middle of articles.
CP Tags can be searched by means of standard Joomla search feature (J15 only).
Features:
- infinite field / values
- configurable and skinnable
- does NOT alter the default Joomla! installation
- simple-yet-powerful
- compatible with Joom!Fish for multi-language sites
- includes English,Italian,Arabic language for frontend (only ver 0.97)
- limit search results
- each field can be displayed in all/some/one search module
- added support for frontend tagging operations.
- a drill-down result summary can be displayed before actual results.
- results can be sorted by section/category
- usability improvements in the backend
- cp tags can be appended to meta keywords too
- SEF compatible
- version for Joomla 1.5 is built using the new MVC framefork.
- multi search module
- configurable search scope
- tags cloud module
The new version - available for J1.0 and for J1.5 - introduces new , almost unique, features:
- tag third party content elements via plugins. BookLibray and Docman installed as defaults
- much improved tagging from the frontend
- tag in page title
- image thumbnails in search results
- selectable search results format: HTML introtext, plain text, only title
- selectable module layout : tables or divs
- core SEF compatible
- sh404SEF compatible
- installer for easy install / upgrade
- more languages : Russian, Swedish, Greek, ...
Current versions :
Joomla 1.0 (>= 1.0.11) : 0.98
Joomla 1.5 (>= 1.5.3 is better) : 1.98.3.3
BTW: most of the requested features (or lack thereof) have been added in version 1.98. It's been quite an effort so feel free to donate :)
- version 1.98.3 fixes some issues with thumbnail creation.
- version 1.98.3.3 fixes the infamous 'timezone' bug the prevented newly created articles to be retrieved for some hours.

Excellente after six month of use.
I use it with some ten other extension without any problem in more the six month.
It was for me the solution to create a multicategory article site.
All my article are classified in 5 diferent section and then in 10 diferent category. With this solution, I can classify my articles in various category of diferent section.
Then with the small module, I have the possibility to publish specialised search engine.
For me it is really good.
Without any bug in 6 months.
Thank you creator.

Hi, the extension is just great. I was wondering if there is any way to add a new feature to the cpsearch module.
Some custom properties may appear in the cpsearch only if some properties ar chosen first. Think about a car configurator, if you chose the model than options related to other model should not appear. This would require somehow a relation between custom properties.

i hacked this to work with "joomgallery" extension so i could tag the pictures with a specific tag taxonomy and it works great. the interface is very easy-to-use. but my "single select" tag choices are displayed in a multiple-choice dropdown which was annoying (it may be b/c of my custom tweaks).
i wish they had a frontend interface to manage just the tag definitions. but all-around great product.

When I found this component i tought: GREAT, this is what I'm searching for! But unfortunately it wasn't, it contains a bug... I don't understand all the good reviews?
For example: you tag one article to just one of the (in my case) checkboxes. And another to all of them.
When you're now heading to the module on your webpage and you select all checkboxes and click search; though all articles are shown! While that one article only was tagged to one chekbox item???
I would find it great if the support turns out to be as great as told in other reviews!

That bug does not exist. Anyone can try the component using the demo site and see for himself.
Please remember that (as stated in the FAQ section):
- Different fields are evaluated with an AND condition.
- Different values of the same field are evaluated with an OR condition.
Could this be "the bug" ?

Installed very fast with the complete installer. Didn't take much to figure out how it works.

I love this extension. I use it mainly to add tags to articles though it's capable of much more. I just had to write a review to say how impressed I am with the support. I was initially worried when I didn't see a forum on the developer's site, but I've had to contact Andrea on three different occasions in order to accomplish something and each time received a super helpful and friendly answer.

This is a good component, would make for very good use in development. I would recommend one added feature and that is to allow the component to generate menu item links to tags as well as aggregated tags.

Easy to install, great features, fantastic support! Search results output page contained some modules that should not show up. Set ItemID in Search-Module and changed the configuration a little. Thanx to immediate answer of Andrea!

This is a fantastic extension - the benefit is that you can control the tags so they don't get out of hand and end up having 3 things that are the same but different... IE "movies" "movie" "movie's" etc... so there is just one and you select them as needed... Brilliant! (easy to set up - took 10 min, and most of that was thinking about the names of the tags I wanted to use)

I really like this extension, and appreciate your work.
It's by far the best tag cloud. Very easy to config and use and also compatible with JoomFish.
You just need to complete this by adding compatibility plug-ins or the possibility for the users to make their own small scripts to extend it in order to make it compatible with VirtueMart or other great extensions for Joomla!.
Thank you for sharing this. ;)

This is the only way to show articles more flexible then just through 1 category. Many nice features. A great addition would be a many iten that shows specified tags. That way this could be used to navigate a whole site way better then whats possible without it. Not having a mnu item for it means adding external links to the search url for me and i then cant change titles or meta as far as i know.

This component is just GREAT !
There's also very usefull additional plugins for publishing tags while submiting an article on front end and backend (carefull it includes a core hack).
Make a search on "Custom properties"
This tag system brings joomla sections/categories to a higher level...

I have use 1.90.2 version of this successfully for several month and today I saw that there is new version with support for adding tags when writing articles. It was very nice to see this, but unfortunately 1.98.1 make troubles with URLs when use tag search and pick article from result it create completely new url of this sort: http://site.name/component/customproperties/article_name.html and it isn't same like menu path adress wich creates troubles with SEO, making duplicate articles.
1.90.2 haven't this problem.
Anyway I wote "Good" for a good component, I am sure this guy wil fix this issue.

Version 1.98 and later version are still able to work "the old way". Just select "TagID" instead of "TagName" in components configuration.
As per the the duplicate content, please read Google's words about the (non) issue:

I really love the way this works, but after some changes in our menu, we suddenly get an error when using the cpsearch: 500 - layout "blog" not found, and there is no documentation anywhere to help us out of this. Its a real bummer - I love it so much I am thinking about reinstalling it, but then I would have to ask my client to re-tag several hundred articles. Wish there is a forum on this...

You made exactly what I'm looking for, really really God bless u

This is a great component. I find it incredibly useful. One suggestion for the developer I would have is to take a look at the 'append to keywords' feature. It seems that it only works if there are no keywords in the article. It would be great if the plugin would simply add the tags as additional keywords which are editable when you pick keywords via Article Manager.
