CQI - CustomQuickIcons ComponentModuleLanguage

CQI (Custom Quick Icons) is the replacement for the standard admin module 'quick icons' for faster access to the most needed/wanted shortcuts.
Define which component you ever want for quick access, assign icons you like. Restrict access, rename, access keys - many options ...
With the installation a component and a module will be installed and automatically activated (standard module is only inactiv). If you ever decide to DEinstall CQI, your former standard module will be activated again

Report

It does just what needed: you can fully customize the quick icons in the homepage of the Joomla Admin control panel, selecting links, icons, text, without the need of hacking Joomla's core module!

I have a few components that put their own icon on the admin control panel and this extension with the latest update not only no longer requires you create a seperate icon for each user level, but recognizes those custom icon add-ons and uses them. With new administrators not being familiar with how cb, and joomla interact having the ability to auto remove the default joomla user icon and instead use the CB user icon makes things VERY simple for them and prevents me from having to worry that they are using the wrong function for user account control. Well Done.

This is great, should be part of Joomla core. It saves me time - I put buttons for all the things I do frequently that are several clicks inside a component.
I've just downloaded the latest update and must compliment the developer for releasing an install package that automatically did an update without requiring a reconfiguration. Now, the ACL problems are addressed and the component is a huge time saver, plus a usability feature to get you to the most frequently used functions.
I have the same issue as an earlier poster. The way that the user groups is handled is problematic. Icons set for Administrator are not seen by the higher priorority users, Super Administrator.

This makes this great for customizing the control panel for only one group of users. I want to have the Super Admin see the icons for managers and administrators. So that I can restrict the lower priority users from seeing all the Super Admin tools.

The author, in an eariler reply, says this is possible. I have yet to figure out how this is done.

It is possible and now much easier with the new 2.1.5 version (published today 10. Sep. 2009)
Advanced assigning (and more features) will come with the coming 'Professional' version which will be a paid (but GPL) extension.

Ive had trouble with other admin interface installs, but not with this one. This was really all I needed to get the admin area working the way I want. Custom tiles for your admin template cuts time navigating menus for things you do often. Makes the admin template your own without risking install of templates that may or may not work. Great work on this, thanks for CQI!!

Very good!
It's working ok for me.
KUTGW for the next addons!
As everyone will attest, this is a great administrator extension. I have no complaints and the support is apparently top notch, though I've never needed it because this works so well.

I'm glad the developer is building a 'pro' version because the only thing that is wrong with the present version is the donation system: it's a little off-putting. I look forward to supporting this project.
I set a item to administrator thinking that admin and super admin would see it, but no dice, only the admin see it. ODD since Joomla doesnt work this way usually. If anyone else knows what Im doing wrong let me know.

Otherwise this is a excellent component, I install it on every site for the managers running things.

In the actual release you can define this easily with the module parameters.

I downloaded this extension and it worked right away, I am very pleased! No problems whatsoever.
Thank you very much for making a great com!
Wow! This admin component really takes the cake!
You can easily customize the Admin UI by setting up custom icons and links to other sections in Admin.

Its so simple to use and the developers thought about everything leaving nothing to scratch!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH

For anyone looking to customize their workspace this is a must have. It does exactly what it says and is extremely easy to use.

Extremely helpful in making the workspace make more sense for clients.

I will be using this on all my sites in the future.

This little extension does a great job of setting up shortcuts to particular functions on the main administrator page.

As others have said, this is a component that should be folded into Core. On the other hand, the number of great components out there that should be in core is great enough that the Joomla! distro package would balloon to the size of the FTP repository of WUSTL. Hence, this is something a new Joomla! user needs to get clued in on.

An easy to use UI is vital. It makes workflows smooth and efficient. The native UI in Joomla! is good, but CQI simply takes it to a new level. It is easy to use, and exposes the new user to core administration cxoncepts of Joomla! in a clear fashion, helping to cut the learning curve. And it makes running Joomla! easier.

I teach a class in Joomla at a local Adult Education school. Tonight, part of the class is going to be spent with CQI. I consider this class will be an important and productive one.
Once again, an extension that would be quite at home in core joomla.

the out of the box joomla admin is not really geared towards the people who will ultimately use it, the small font and long menu of components with weird names are hard to use.

however this really helps to make their lives and our lives so much easier.

Thanks a lot!

I'm quite new to Joomla- neat stuff here! So I wanted to see what each of these components do.

"Extension Icons": what it does- working only with components- it does very well, although its icons are very small (someone more clever than I could probably figure out how to enlarge them). It was just too limited for my uses.

CQI also has its limits. For instance, I have J Cal Pro installed, and I wanted to set up an icon to go directly into the Events Manager- no luck (again- I'm a newbie- maybe someone here can help me with it!). But it beats using the main menu.

Nevertheless, I was able to set up a Control Panel that has the ONLY icons they need- no more navigating through the main menu.

One thing alone makes it worthwhile- I have a big, fat Global Checkin icon for those inevitable, irritating times when you accidentally use the Back arrow on the browser instead of X/Close/Cancel. It is a very useful program- my thanks to the developers.

Hello joemcl,

general i want to ask all users to go to the forum at JoomlaCode and post their suggestions or problems their.

About the 'limits': beside of the pre defined links (usually components) you can define every link to every component/module/plugin. Just watch browser bar and copy the link you see there.
Add an icon (or only text) - thats it.

Even you could assign CQI to any other position (new feature since 2.1.0) - for example 'cpanel' and voila you will have all icons 'presented by CQI' there - and the standard quickicon module can stay at the position 'cpanel'.

But the best new feature (also since 2.1.0) is to disable the 'admin menu' and show CQI only the defined usergroups or even one (1) user (e.g. a manager, not admin).

Many possibilities ......

Thank. If you try and administer your site from a PDA/Smartphone there are bits that are either a pain to get to or absolutely impossible, like modules. This makes it possible to put in icons to get to those impossible to reach places.

This is one of the first things I install on a new site. Though there are a couple of things that bug me about it. Like the default icon for a new article is a big red cross. I guess the idea is so that you can see it's been changed, but it annoys me having to go in and change that one every time I install when it is one of the icons I don't plan to change.
Still full marks to the dev, this is a great addition to your site and really easy to use.
