Excellent extension!
the only con would be the thing about the alphabetical bar and breadcrumbs appearing on the homepage/frontpage after clicking on a menu link and leaving an alphacontent page. (as also stated on the previous review)
for those of you who are interested, i have figured out a solution to this problem and have posted it under the "solved" section in the alphaplug's forum section of their website. good luck

I spent a long time looking for something that offered the features that this does. And when I first set it up, quickly and easily, I thought 'WOW', it does what I need.
BUT
The script has a bug that appears to affect Joomla. If you click on other menu items on your site after visiting the directory listing on this script you find the breadcrumbs and Alphanumeric bar appear at the top of your Joomla page until you click the link for a second time.
I'm not sure what causes this problem but it's mentioned by a growing number of people on the support forum and sadly so far there's no hint of a solution from the author as of yet.
I appreciate it's a free script however, so I know a fix may take some time and may even never appear. I just feel if it did appear this script would be an instant 5 star!
Almost a great component, just got a few bugs that lets it down sadly.

Thanks a thousand time to the Dev — Using it for many years — This component is the only directory that smartly use Joomla internal power to present a powerful directory. Anybody that can donate should do so to Help Bernard with his fantastic work. No need to a convoluted processes. Just create normal Joomla articles in certain section/category and Bam! you have a beautiful directory. This is the best...
If it were not for this component, I would have to have my articles completely restructured. This is one of my favorite components for joomla, this makes it so all articles can be displayed into one page. Also it takes the first image from an article which makes presenting more appealing to users. The intro text part as well as the search is also decent. Thanks for creating this!
Cheers Josh Lewis.

It's an excellent plugin conceptually, but I came across errors and bugs and the support forum is not helping a lot either. What a pity...
Hi,
as many here I agree that this could be such a great application but it mostly does not work properly and rightly Mr Bernard says it is distributed "as is", which I understand means: no complain because it is free. Well, in other cases I would not even waste my time to test and publish a review of an extensions but in this case i DO really like this application and it is like you are giving for free a Ferrari car but with no wheels, it is the most beautiful car in the world but you go nowhere!!!! Not to mention that the forum lack completely of replies!
Please accept my suggestion, WOULDNT BE BETTER IF YOU MAKE IT COMMERCIAL. I am quite sure many people would be happy to pay for it the average cost of an extension but have something that really works!! This would also help not to waste other people time even when they are testing and using something for free!
Many thanks and respectfully let me say make the effort for let it works!

I was looking to replace Joomla's standard article listing and Alphacontent was everything I expected. After installing, I edited some basic code to customize for my site. My site is a video site and alpha content allowed me to include thumbnails for the videos I posted (an example of Alphacontent's power can be seen at getyourlol.com/home/videos.) Rating system is great. The support was fantastic. 5 stars for "Bernard" and Alphacontent.
I really like this extension. Nice to see another thumbnail program (ArtViper) in this new version. Was getting "Limit Exceeded" often with websnapr. Only problem is, I registered with ArtViper and added the api but still getting websnapr thumbs. Not sure how to change to ArtViper. Great extension nevertheless.
I ve been using this component for some time now and i do like it however as nice i feel it lacks support features and functionality which could make this a my favorite com of all.
Getting it to work with sh404sef in the automatic generation of metatags seems impossible ( which is absolutely key for a directory) and would be great if it provided a frontend editing for clients. ..
However its a free extension so cant really complain too much..
If you have any suggestions on who to make this extension work with sh404sef in generating automatic meta in the categories and section please advise..
Regards

* Very good SEF URL's.
* It is easy-to-use (being easy to use is always one of the main tasks of a program or a script or a Joomla! component).
* AlphaContent works without any glitches.
* I like its rating system, it's simple but does its work.

As far as I'm concerned anyone that works this hard on a free extension for the Joomla! community deserves kudos. This product, in particular, works very well, installs easily and does everything as advertised. The only thing that prevents me from giving Alphacontent 5 stars is the almost non-existent support options. The folks who've commented on this point are correct. The forum on the authors website is mostly folks asking unanswered questions. Bottom line, this is the slickest directory extension for Joomla! But if you run into a problem, expect some challenges when it comes to solutions. But what do you want for FREE?
Alphacontent is incredibly easy to set up and looks awesome! For ages I have been looking for something which is easy to set up, gives a summary with a thumbnail and Alpha Content fits the bills perfectly. By the first look, it is awesome and I am using it on http://kolkata.feastguru.com.
There are some niggling problems, however, which if fixed will make this a component amongst the best.
a) Thumbnail image size - The thumbnail images weigh as much as the original uploaded. The thumbnails should be much lower than the original size.
b) Sitemap - Xmap component just shows the section and category and not each of the content. This is a major SEO issue.
c) Tag generation - The tags are generated automatically and randomly and seem to be without any specific purpose which makes using this impossible. Perhaps, user generated tags mechanism could be introduced
d) Tag URLs - The tags generate URLs from Joomla's com_component and, therefore, your site would land up with two sets of URL and get penalized by search engines.
e) Display of Tag Search results are from Joomla's core search and therefore the display from this and the search results from Alphacontent's search are very different.
f) Search Module - Aplhacontent should have its own search module and preferably with a Ajax drop down.
g) Automatic Google Map Plugin - A mechanism could be introduced in which geographic coordinates could be entered to generate a Google Map position.
Hope these suggestions will go into making this the coolest product in this category!

I have used this product throught 2 version releases now (the update process works fine - no de-install/re-install). It is a very functionally rich application with many presentation options. I have not encountered any conflicts with applications such as DTHRegister and JEvents. I have not tried SEF404 (I notice another reviewer had an issue in this regard).
Support has been very good via the forum.
A very well deserved "Excellent" rating in my opinion and I hope it continues to grow.
