SEO Canonicalisation Plugin

If this extension is misconfigured it may prevent access to your site. It is recommended that you utilise the "Check Settings" option before publishing the extension. Additionally, you can rename the /plugins/system/canonicalization.php file to diasble the extension temporarily to allow access to the administrator if you have enabled that option.
As noted in the extension description, if you rename the PHP file to something else it will disable the plugin from working and you can make any changes you need in the administrator. When you are done rename it back again to re-enable the plugin.
Super easy to use and IT WORKS! Download, install, go to Plugin Manager, enter your site address, CHECK it, enable it, and you're done! It only takes a minute or two - really!
Most importantly, it accomplished what the rewritecond and rewriterule in .htaccess didn't - got the "www" out of my site links. (Yes, in most cases the .htaccess was written correctly - copied and pasted, double-checked against other sources.)
It is very important to do the Check, though. The plugin found a couple sites where I had configured the .htaccess rewrite incorrectly (was rewriting TO "www" rather than to the non-www address). If you do the Check, I'd say it's pretty much "fool" proof - even for me. ;)
Thanks for making it available ... and for FREE!
Hope there will be a 1.6/1.7 and 2.5 version of this coming soon.
Simple to install!
Just check the plugin before enable it, if everything goes allright the you can use it, best of all not one line of code.
Good job!!!
I am new to Joomla and web developing in general and I was having quite a hard time getting around the proper redirection syntax...apart from seeking advice, I also read lengthy pieces of guides...
Even experienced users out there proposed different codes for achieving redirection, not all worked as they should.
This plugin just makes you mad you were not aware of its existence before. I'd say a must for both experienced and newbies.
Unfortunately the "Redirect for Joomla 1.5" extension which I already had installed, does not include this functionality.
Something that troubled me at first, but proved to be a very simple thing is that you must NOT! enter "http://" in front of the address you want to point to.
I almost got careless and didn't click the check button to test the functionality.
Make sure you do so before enabling the plugin.
All the issues the 'www.' and 'no www.' can cause with regard to Site Analytics, sharing and SEO is amazing. One would think that this would resolve itself at all levels, but apparently not.
I guess better to leave people like me in the dark and have some overpriced SEO consultant BS me about all the things he would do for me for thousands of dollars, to fix an 'issue' that has never been one till this change.
Any young guns out there need to remember that having no www in the URL would never work at all years back , so it had no effect on stats etc.
I love the 'change' as it makes it easier to go to a site, but not if my hits and other crucial client site data is being effected!
This plug-in has fixed three sites that were all giving me different results using any direct editing of the htaccess file and or pleading with my hosting company!
Again I thank you!
