Accordion Menu Module

This simple module for Joomla! 1.5 creates an accordion menu using unordered lists and the Mootools library. It is based off of the standard mod_mainmenu and a script written by ah72 and shared on the Joomla! forums. It will automatically create an accordion menu based on nested tags. Simply define a menu in the Menu Manager that has nested items and then tell mod_accordionmenu to display it. No complicated configuration or options needed. Just install it and it works.

As others have commented, it was a real treat to have this module work immediately "out of the box".

It would be EXTREMELY useful if it included a default stylesheet as a pattern for quickly developing your own.

If anyone has done this, could you post it here?
Realy good extension, if to tell a truth, it's only one that worked for me (with my css) - that was great was so excited, but have one issue - dont have a "current" "active" or something like that in css , this is what i benn missing...
Good luck!
p.s. sorry for not proper english

This is an excellent, easy to install module. Would be nice to have a default style sheet come along with it, but no biggie.

Thanks for provide this great module! However, this module is not working after I upgrade the php version to 2.3.0 (x64). Are there have any way I can fix it?
byalphastar on November 22, 2009
I advise it to all. Just 3 minutes and it works with your css. Nothing to change. Good work! Thanks!

This is very simply, excellent look. You can apply styling via css tag. Works like a charm!
byKostas on November 12, 2009
It does exactly what it says. Easy to configure and use.
Thanx!!!
Almost perfect but it's missing a Open State div class for parent menu items, when its sub menu is opened (before clicked on).

This will make the CSS styling more flexible, and it's necessary to show, Open and Close bullets.
GREAT MODULE FOR PERSONS THAT NEED AN INTERFACE !!

I have been trying a lot of modules but with all of them the position was fixed, the submenus where not connected to the main items etc. etc. this gebnerally means altering the CSS styles.

Unfortunately this is something I am not able to (yet).

This module just gives you what you need after longing for a solution after hours and hours of trying other modules.

Thanks !!

This module is doing exactly what it is supposed to do - flipping open menu items based on second level

Easy installation.

No css that means you can style your menu from the beginning.

Usefull params.
This is a great Accordion Menu Module. Its easy to setup and modify. Definitely recommended one of the best menu modules I have ever used.

Basically it's Simple and Great!!

Definitely I would recommend it. At first I thought as Flutje there was a problem with the closing of the menu when mouseout, but as I added more submenues I realized a submenu is closed only when another one is opened, and this is a friendly feature for the end user. Maybe would be nice to add the option to close always the submenu on mouseout. It's a pity this extension is not being maintained anymore. Let's see if someone else takes the torch :). Good job!

simple and it works out of the box!!!!
also, i want to make a sugestion to the developer... it would be nice if the menu returns on its current page when i take the mouse from it... on large menus this option may prevent the visitor from getting lost... keep up the good work!

It works very nice but I do miss one option. I can mouse over and the menu slides open but when I leave the menu alltogether it doesn't close down.

Maybe I am doing something wrong or it is just not part of this menu, but it would be a nice option.

Besides this minor inconvenience it works great and is easy to use. I can advise everyone to give it a try!
This is the perfect compliment to any site with a large menu system. I implemented this at a school district website which simplified their site from overwhelming to easy to use. I would highly recommend this menu and dare say that it should be the default for Joomla! I don't create Joomla! sites without this one.

This accordion menu is probably the best available now. Easy to install and no trouble to configure. However, I do get an error on certain pages which leaves me to think that it does not work well with certain extensions as it generates an error on the page where there is a link to ArtForms. To be honest I do not know which is the culprit but this error does not happen with other extensions.
On a positive note, this is a very good menu and I guess the chance to have an error is minute. Well done.
Owner's reply

Feel free to send me a link to the page with an error and I'll look at it. Chances are high that it is caused by another extension using a custom copy of the mootools library instead of the Joomla! built in version. This often breaks the script, and there's not much I can do about it.

Finally an accordion that works out of the box! - I'm a designer and i have to do a lot of conversions and clients sometimes request this type of menus - and after months of trying other crapp solutions - I'm so glad I've found this one. Just installed and selected the menu and worked! zero issues -

Thanks a ton to the developer - It works beautifully!

Does exactly what it should. The only failure is that the module is also shown, also when there are no menu items.

But the rest is great.
