Ok. I have been using this for a while now. So far, I was extremely happy. Was all the good stuff like mentioned in the previous reviews. Until today. The file upload function in the filemanager does not work. And then there is absolutely no help available anywhere. No forum support. So, now I am going to have to uninstall this and find something else, and transfer all the work I have already put in so far. And no, it doesnt allow to point to files loaded up in some other location on the server.

If you are new to Joomla (even if you are not new at OOP at all), and you want to avoid a heart attack, don't use this component.
1. The documentation is extremely poor
2. The forum is unattended
3. The configuration panel of the component does not seems to have utility for some of the options as they act as being hardcoded.
4. If you are in a hurry, and think you will be able to modify it in a reasonable time, please think again (and after that again).
I'm trying to be 'courteous and honest', but believe me, is not easy with such an experience.

Seems to work great and easy to install. I will give it that.. The only issue I have is that it crashes all browsers.. Im sure this is a server issue on my side otherwise everyone would be in trouble here.
But from what I saw seemed to be decent. No support for crashing so had to try something else.

I first try quickFAQ, one point make me try others is the user rating and articale information is put in between the questin and answer, I feel this is distracting. After pay to try Talor's knowledgebase, I switchback to quickFAQ.
Cons:
Not a simple way to redesign the layout of faq page, move user rating to the end of answer.
Pro:
l. Perfect match with rest of the site, include breadcrumbs and look and feel.
2. Compatible with Joomla's build in seo and sef. No error display even turning on system seo and sef. The two component I tested, only this works.
2. Has front end article submitting.
3. Has tags for each question. Provide readers different angle to view the knowledge base.
4. Multiple frontend views. Ie. Can cliek to view whole knowledgebase, just select category or tags view.
5. Very important, its donateware. User can try before, pay according to it using value or can be totally free.

Pros -
Works out of the box on Joomla 1.5.9. Installation worked without any problems.
Cons -
Absolutely no support on forum. Many users asking for small issues but there is no one replying including developer.
I cannot get the faq path in the top. Since developer is not responding, I have no choice but to find another components.

Works well. My only gripe is it hasn't worked correctly with sh404sef since we upgraded to Joomla 1.5.9. Some of my FAQs have 4 pages, but the pagination won't work beyond page 2 for me.

So far this module looks like it ticks all the boxes for a knowledgebase/ FAQ, system.
The many categories in categories which can be in many categories is excellently handled and ever part of this extension is integrated almost seamlesly with the admin side of joomla!.
The only slight drawback i have at the moment is i cant seem to change the title which shows on the page for configuration items like "show tags" :( but thats minor considering the huge benefits this extension delivers.

This tool may replace the simple Joomla interface of listing documents, though that's not so bad. What's missing from this app is a parameters to control the general defaults of email, PDF, show/hide, etc.
Of course the toy isn't as key as the cereal itself. Thanks!

I previously used Mediawiki as a knowledgebase for our intranet, but employees found wiki-markup too difficult. In transitioning to a traditional knowledgebase program, I also looked at kbase and Phil Taylor's knowledgebase program.
QuickFAQ not only works extremely well as a knowledgebase, it also has features such as front-end editing and creation that both of the knowledgebase programs I listed above do not.
Some other reviews mentioned some interface issues that concerned me before downloading - such as the inability to turn off certain features such as user rating etc - but I have not had any problem being able to customize the interface for my needs.
QuickFAQ just works. It has a nice layout that I tweaked a bit in its css. I had it up and running in a matter of minutes. In short, this extension was exactly what I was looking for, even though it isn't labeled as a knowledgebase.

This is a great component - I replaced Phil Taylors KnowledgeBase with this one.
It just beats other (even very expensive) commercial components easily!

I agree with Laurel's review. It's a great component that needs more flexibility to hide the clutter to give it a cleaner, more efficient look. Also, needs to support plugins so one can bring in maps, videos, etc. As with Christoph's other applications, it will get better over time.
Cheers

This is exactly what I wanted and another reason why Joomla is the number-one CMS system. With this kind of scripting, why would anyone still build websites? Full marks and a distinction!

I really like this software. QuickFAQ is very easy to use. If you are looking for a great FAQ component this is it. The only thing I think is missing is the funktion to attach files from the frontend. Great work!

Sorry about giving a low score to an extension that works well, but it has no flexibility and the author won't explain.
You cannot turn off any of the stuff like Hits, Favorites, Added, Author, etc. etc. There are options in the control panel but they don't work. Supposedly the site global configurations rule, but they have no effect either. The support forum says that you can edit html files but gives no details. The author doesn't bother to tell which files nor even what directory to look in. I've searched the html and php files and couldn't find it.
It works very very well but unless you want all those cute icons and about 3" of space for all the fields it displays before it displays your answer, you are SOL.
It will only display with ALL this information for each FAQ (the question and answer get lost and its unprofessional for the nature of my site):

This is a professionally written, clean, easy to install, easy to use component for anyone who wants to add FAQs to their website.
byshoulders on November 16, 2008
I have used this to replace my mediawiki quite successfully.
I literally just copied and pasted the pages in. (just login as a user who cannot edit, this removes those edit things on the right).
Very easy to use, excellent for the price. Thanks to the developer who puts the time in.
Also has plugins in xmap and sh404SEF which is an added extra.

If you know the feeling of creating FAQ's you must know that one question just creates another question and some questions covers different questions and even categories. QuickFAQ makes it simple to organise. I like especially the cloud module. Everything it says it does, it does very easily.
Extremely easy to install and use. I had faq running on my site within 10 minutes. Thanks!
Only one question though, how do you re-define the order of faq items within a category?
Thanks for a great product.

I been looking for a good knowledgebase extension and I thought this one would do the trick. However I have loaded over 700 items into it and it takes forever to load (60 seconds or more) when I view all the items at once. Overall, it is a good product, but you plan on putting a lot of data into it, it still needs work.

Within five minutes, I was flying.... Generating faq's.
Hat's off to the developer.
