I was looking for a tool that would let me create a custom backend easy to use and understand for my users/customers as well to give them specific access to modules and content.
This extensions is doing the job perfect. For me was not a big deal to configure it and have it run in an hour and I think even beginers after a little time and experiment with the privileges they will have the result they want soon.
Last implementation of the extension was on a news website where I wanted specific users have access to specific categories or some of them just to their own articles, as well to set what parameters to set when they create/edit an article.
There was a small issue with the extension, but after posting to the forum, the developper fixed it in a matter of hour. Then I downloaded the fix and everything worked as a charm.
I recommend it to anyone. There is also the free version which they can download and try it...

I was searching for a good ACL component, my search ended in this component. It is one such a good component which satisfies all your need. I recommend this component for ACL solutions.
I have bought this extension and I've been able to customize the backend of my joomla website, giving to different users and groups different privileges and backend functionalities. I had few thinks that I was not able to understand by myself, but the developer responded quickly and professionaly and help me to solve all my issues. I think that this extension is really important for complex and multi users backend!!!
We need a complex solution for our University Websites, we have a multisite scheme(JMS) and we need an extension to help us to control access to sections, categories, articles and for each module, component and plugin. The ACL from this extension is wonderful and it not hacks the joomla core so we could upgrade joomla without problems. on our scheme this extension was own for a parent site and shared with childrens website without problems. Is very easy an intuitive to use!!
Believe us is a great work and the more important thing is the support from Carsten, we contact him on Monday and in the same day or in the Tuesday's morning we have an answer!!! We want aditional features and he consider it on new releases and now we have a BIG ACL extension. Is wonderful. Carsten is very helpful and patient.

Anyone who develops Joomla sites for others to use NEEDS this extension. The level of granularity for restricting access to the admin panel is extraordinary. Very simple to use, while also amazingly robust. Best part is - THIS IS NOT A HACK! Don't want to use it anymore - just uninstall. Trust me, though, once you have worked with this extension you will never be without it.
Couple that with amazing support from Carsten and you have a perfect extension in every way. Example - I made a post in the forums asking about redirecting to a specific URL after logging into the back-end of the site. I made this request on 10/27/2010. By 10/29/2010 Carsten had released an upgrade which included this function. Can't ask for any better than that. He is immeasurably helpful, patient and timely in his responses.
I would encourage anyone who develops Joomla sites for a living to buy this extension and help support its continued development and support.

This extension did exactly what I wanted it too. My client is very happy and it got another interested because of it. Worth the money. Support was great and I highly recommend it.
Hello, this is the first extension for content restriction easy to use that do the job. One thing only; if you restrict the access to some content, the content that have not accessed show the edit icon even if it is not working; that confused me a lot; it is not documented.
Last thing it would be better if this extension be GPL for a single installation or at least for governative one.

I had two problems:
1. I needed to keep my customers admin user away from certain parts.
2. I needed to create an admin environment tailor-made for them that were easy to understand and work in.
After my purchase I realized that not only is this a must have extension but the developer behind it are extremely competent and more than willing to help you.
Looking forward to more extensions from this developer, I will purchase them all.

I have try several Backend user control but this one is totally THE best! It is very powerful, flexible and reliable and is possible to restrict/hide/customize almost everything. It is necessary to play around a little bit because the use is not always intuitive but when the concept is understood the result is simply terrific. If used in conjunction with Page and Item (free) you increase again the potential of control of your Backend (and Frontend too). Best of all this component can be installed on many website, frequent release are published (included in your purchase), the price is very affordable and Carsten the developer make a incredible customer support... If you need to restrict your Backend you can't go wrong with this component..
I manage a Web site with that is in-part maintained by lower-level employees. I simply do not trust them with access to the Back-end when they can destroy the entire Web site within a few clicks.
This component prevents this from happening because my users are now only allowed to access specific components I assign to them.
