**New Feature** I have now added the feature that you can specify individual article ids, as well as categories and sections.
**update Jan 2009** You can now set the thumbnail size, also the articles can now be ordered in a variety of ways, allowing the module to function like the 'latest news' module, or the 'most read' module according to your choice. The module can also display articles in a random order, allowing you to display a random selection of articles from a category or section.
**Note** the module template includes ONE link to my own site, it is not 'hidden away in the source code', it is clearly visible in the template, and you can easily remove it by deleting it from the file tmpl/default.php . The link text says 'module by Inspiration', I believe that it should be acceptable to include a link to my own site in my own work, but you are perfectly at liberty to remove it if you don't like it.
**November 2009**the latest update includes the option to set an itemid in the article links, improved image size calculation and more ordering options.
Editor's Note
- This extension by default includes hidden links/advertising. Hidden links/advertising can affect the Search Engine ranking.
Great just like the random mp3 player I also have. Thanks Fiona. I requested to have a "static entry" in the dropdown menu as an "order" option.
Thanks!
Thanks!

At the first moment the module doesn't work well cause the images link of the articles. But I write to the support page and they fix the problem very well and fast.

I would have given this module an excellent review as it's really very good however the developer has seen fit to hide a hidden link back to their own website within the source code, this link is set to 'display: none'. You will find this link hidden away in the modules folder/tmpl/default.php or you will see it if you view your page's source code.

I downloaded Featured Items last night, I was really with it. But then I discover the Featured Items Pro on http://www.spiraltemplates.co.uk, I fell in love with it some more. The Pro version has AJAX, Accordion, Tab, thumbnails and "Read more" options. It's a nice module to have.

I was looking for an alternative to the Joomla native article display. This module does it perfectly. 5 stars.
I am displaying this module in an article, so what you see is the title of the article, and the first x amount of characters from each article (configurable in the module) - see here: http://www.consultthestars.com/component/content/article/61
Installed without any issues, and perfect config options for the mod. Well done. Great niche product.

This module is perfect. I can control the amount of text to display in the module which was very important for me, this module did just that.
Very simple and easy to setup.
To the Developer, a BIG Thank you!!

Yes, this is a good plugin, so easy to setup, the required features for this type of module are there.
Thank you, maybe a bit of AJAX or something would be nice for you future release.

I don't understand why your extension is called "featured items", no one have a category where all featured items are. It doesn't make any sense at all, without choosing article id's what's the purpose ? It's obvious for everyone that when you say "featured items" it means that you SELECT the most featured articles from all categories, or just featured items from one category and not a category. I decide what articles are featured, based on my criteria so I must be able to choose different articles from different categories, else it's just like any other module. There are other modules like this but I simply cannot understand why this nonsense it's still in all this modules, featured items cannot be hold in a category or section, I must be able to choose individual articles.
If you do that then this extension will be very very useful, now it's just an extension. There is another extension called "Featured articles", it's a very popular one, you are able to choose individual articles but it lacks the features of the extension you developed, it only list articles, no preview, thumbnail..So if you add the posibility to choose individual articles from different categories this extension will be popular.
I don't want to offend you it's just that everyone seems to follow the same pattern when it comes for certain modules but it isn't the right choice.

Owner's reply
I might add the feature you request if there is demand for it. Sorry to hear that you think it is 'nonsense' at the moment, apparently some people find it useful.
