Report

This is a nice simple CAPTCHA plugin and with some tweaking, I'm happy with it. I fixed the english, tweaked the layout for my own tastes, changed the font to something more readable (Garabond), setup the colors to match my template and everything seems to be working as it should.

The guys who are complaining should take a look at the code. It's a very small plugin and easily edited if you have even the slightest clue about PHP and XML.

Thanks for your efforts!
It needs an extra work when a new joomla version come out. i don't like core hack and patches

Hi

I installed this plugin without any problems. But it's still buggy.
First, on my test server and my prodcution one, the captcha don't protect Virtuemart registration. The captcha is not registered in the virtuemart user_fields, then, it's displayed but not a required form when the registration is submitted. Spamer's bots can then bypass the captcha.
Second, the sound player don't work.

Those bugs are listed by several other webmasters, one is listed on the support forum, but unfotunatly, this is a Google code website and when you don't have Google account, you can't post issues and have support.

It's a good plugin for a lot of webmasters, but I can't advise to use it with virtuemart.
Took me a little while to figure this out, the images were not showing up. Then, I took a chance and set the permissions of showcode.php to 755 and, voila, it worked.
Doesn't say this anywhere, so make sure you double check that before you give up on it.

Good job on getting this to work with Joomla.

The only MAJOR issue is that this is not a true joomla "plugin" since we have to patch some of the Joomla core files.

What this means for the user is that every time joomla updates certain core files that it will break this "plugin".

Can you guarantee to be around and update as long as Joomla is around ;)

Otherwise - good job.

Surprised with this plugin, the very best for Joomla! No doubt about that: easier and simplier than Security Images with the same results.

But about the support offered in its Google Code page, is very poor.

Works perfectly. I'm on Joom 1.5.10 so I had to also install the patches for this version but once I did, it worked.

No problems thus far. Thanks for a great captcha plugin!!

It doesn't alert if the captcha is wrong.
Install right away- follow directions
1) Unpack Patch 2) install plugin an voila! Thanks for helping me solve a recent rash of bot registrations!

Works great! No more bots applying to my site every five seconds!!! Simple straight forward easy installation. I recommend this to all try to get rid of the pesky bots. Also stays current to any new updates Joomla puts out.
I have tried this plugin several times on 1.5.7 & 1.5.8 and the images do not appear most of the time and when they do are of very poor quality to be of any use as a very good Captcha.

does the job, while not being the best of looking systems, covers most core components that would need to be covered but does allow an on/off function - which was great (didnt want captcha for logins!, only for registrations )

only down side is yes it does require patching the core system, but patches are on hand and do seem to be released promptly

This is the best captcha for joomla,no doubt about that.
Bit surprised at the good support mentioned , as i received absolutely no reply whatsoever regarding my question.

When you have your site offline to work on you cannot login at the front anymore because the captcha doesnt cover that area.
Installation took less then 5 minutes, and it works perfectly.
Highly recommended.
I use 1.5 legacy

I tried another joomla-captcha first, but I defenitly prefer this one now.

My site was experiencing a large amount of spam bots registering user id's on my Joomla 1.5 site and I believe all that is required is to require the person (or bot) to type in the captcha displayed in an "image" to complete registration.

This was very simple to install (install plugin and then paste (or ftp) the patch files for us that are running Joomla 1.5.8

Enabled the plugin (System-Captcha) and if you need it just for registration and password resets then next to Enabled Captchas paste: user.reset, user.register

VERY EASY! Thank You for producing this. Joomla should really include captcha as part of the core and your plugin appears to be a great fit!
Joomla Captcha is very easy to integrate in your own developments. The patches code is a good starting point to learn how to do it.

Thank you very much for sharing your work.
I've just installed this Plugin after several spammers registerd to our site. First I used the installer that has te latest date, but the images didn't show up in my 1.5.7 site.
Then I downloaded the 1.5.7. patch and installed that also, and now it works great!

I just needed some time to understand that installer doesn''t take care of the 1.5.7 patch also.

I want to give my kudos to the developer of Joomla Captcha 4.3

It's one of the simplest to install and configure I've found in JED. Also, the J!1.5.7 patches give a great clue on how to add the feature to other templates and modules/components.

Great work guys! You deserve 5 stars!
This extension does just what I want: protecting login, admin login, and contact. It is easy to install.

The author is enthusiastic and responsive to issues and change requests.

There are some minor issues. I found the CAPTCHA images are sometimes difficult to read. It would be good to have more control over the appearance of the images. However, this extension is in its early days, so there's no reason to mark it down for these - I'm sure these will be fixed soon.
