Simple Mooticker ModuleLanguage

*** NEW VERSION 1.5.4 OUT NOW! ***

SIMPLE MOOTICKER module displays horizontal scrolling text using the Joomla! build in mootools framework. You can choose if you want to type your news manually or still take the latest news from sections or categories (by ID). The module has several styling options like width, height, background color, border styles or font styles. Additionally you can choose the scrolling direction. It generates a valid output and uses "div" tags only. For users with javascript disabled in their browsers you can define a text for the "no script" tag. Please read the help for the parameters in module description.

Simple Mooticker for Joomla! 1.5.x native by medien.stroeme (www.medienstroeme.de) is based on the original mooquee script from Dirar Abu Kteish (www.developer.ps/moo/mooquee) and the Joomla! core module "latest news".

The script has been successfully tested in IE5.5, IE6, IE7, FF2, FF3, Safari 3.2 and Opera 9.5 (all for windows).

Enjoy it!

I found it difficult to find a horizontal news-scroller that I did not need to link to articles or title. This was just it! Simple to use and edit layout and no need to make article! All text can be added directly to the module. Thanks for you great work!

Very nice and easy to use extension. For a simple ticker I have used it on several sides and it works fine.

Nice little extension. However, I now have a problem with IE8. When this extension is enabled, the tooltips in IE8 don't work anymore. FF is working correctly. This is a problem since people want to see calender events and photo comments this way. I tried to google this problem without luck and also the forum is offline for support. Anyone any idea's?

Anyway, thanks for this nice extension.

Great Module, easy to install and to use.
Unfortunately the ticker is far too fast in Chrome so I can't use it. It would be nice if it would work on all browsers.

Easy to install and working great - I have used this ticker on several sites.

One minor issue - sometime when the last character in a right-left scrolling message extends to the rightmost part of its character's pixel grid (eg a 't'), the ticker seems to not clear up the rightmost pixels properly and leaves a small trail - for example, with a 't' I get two faint lines marking the right end of the horizonal bar in the letter and for the foot of the 't'. To fix this I just put a full stop after the last character.

Works as advertised right out of the box. I've given up on trying to have a website or module work flawlessly under all/any browsers (clearly not something a developer can accommodate for), so for me, it does the job, while taking into consideration that something might not behave as expected in IE6(?) or Chrome.
Good work!

Hi, I have found it very attractive.
Although I am not familiar with CSS, PHP and others, I found that issue related to chrome (fast moving text) can be resolved with help0 of the enclosed description toogether with enabling 1st parameter of module (mootols):
So once you installed it just add a content described in /HELP0/ to index.php of your template and enable mootols /1st parameter of module/.

There was one more problem I resolved on my own:
module is in absolute position which means that i.e. in ja_purity template when located in hornav it would cover a menu module. I am not sure why they set it like that.
To resolve it simply go to:
ftp://your_joomla_catalog/modules/mod_simplemooticker/stylesheet and edit mod_simplemooticker_css.php
in my case I change .layer_one, .layer_two position from absolute to relative.
Now it works.

There is other problem - I do not need to use a content of section or category as I use manually typed text to display. But if I want it then it do not appear in the line - propably cause of above changes - I do not check it yet as I need typed text to display only, but it would be fine to find solution.

I really like this extension, good configuration and good visualization with firefox.
But with internet explorer the scroller is not fluid, i think this is really a problem.
Another problem which I suggest to implement is the velocity with google chrome because is different from ie and ff but can not be configured.

The product works fine with Firefox, but it goes way too fast in Chrome. And yes, it's on the slow setting.

The ticker is very good but its too fast in google chrome? Is there any workaround?

Our site uses this to show hot info (internal and external to site). I did not face any bugs / crashes so far in the last 3 months. It will be great if an option to suppress category title is provided as currently it displays both article and category title while displaying article content.

Working excellent with easy install and fantastic documentation. Highly customizable, from appearance to content. Tested in FF 3.5.3 IE8 and Chrome.
The speed is too fast in chrome, though it scroling nice in other 2 browsers.

This module is very close to perfect for its use.

Pros:
1) Its non commercial
2) the php code is very good and there are no xhtml warnings generated.
3) The module is lightweight and handles javascript very intelligently.
4) The text transition is very smooth and it allows for Latest News - at last someone has managed this properly!

Cons

1) CSS can be configured in the module, but I have found some inconsistencies in its implementation so I would advise styling it in the template_css.css

I would like to see the addition of leading text from the article after the link title, but that's a subjective.

With the CSS config ironed out and a little more control over the gaps between links I would give it the final star!
