It's great module ! And its free - thats why it is so great :) V good customization, nice looking, support is nice but they can't fix for a moment one IMPORTANT problem... veryyy often module dosen't load propertly. U can see only circle turning and turning and nothing happend. If this problem will be fixed i will give it a excellent! score. But for now main funcjonality of this module is broken...
For a free module this thing is amazing. It's the second gavick pro module I've used with no major issues.
If only their website was a little faster...

GK2 Photo Slide is clearly a fantastic looking gallery slideshow that incorporates descriptive text. There are many customizable layouts, and features can be turned on or off depending on your requirements.
However, there are several quirky aspects that reduce my rating on this Component. The download package needs to be unzipped, and only the component is installed via Joomla extensions installer. You must then install the required plugins via the Photo Slide control panel, and finally install the Modules in the Joomla extensions installer. There are three plugin / module combinations, the differences are not described in the documentation. So you’ll need to install them all to see how each looks!
During this process of checking out the differences between the modules, you’ll discover that all the work you did can’t be easily moved from one module design to the next. There is no copy function in the control panel, even though the fields are identical. Additionally, once you have added a picture to a slide, you’ll never know what it is again. No thumbnail is created, and there is no way to change it other than going into the actual my SQL file and editing the field.
Finally, for some users, a critical nail in the coffin will rear its ugly head when they attempt to write a text description longer than 255 characters. Sorry, it just can’t be done. Even though the word count can be changed to whatever you feel like, you’ll never get more than 255 characters into the text description.
It amazes me that so many people give this Component such high ratings with so many flaws. Of course, it is free, and in that regard this is a fantastic extension. But, I would be happy to buy an improved version that clears up all these problems.

I am fairly new at Joomla and have installed only about 10 modules. Whereas a typical module takes 30-60 minutes to get going, this module is still problematic after days. A lot of the problems seem to be related to the slightly weird approach the authors have.
- You have to register and opt in to mailing
- The documentation talks a lot about how great the product is and shows lots of obvious screens shots but forgets to mention how things fit together.
- You likely will have to edit /templates/templatename/templateDetails.xml
- You need to create a blank article with a set of content like this basic content: {loadposition theSlideShowPositionDefinedinXLMfile}
- The download can not be directly installed, you first need to download locally and then figure out the subfolders.
- The documentation states things like "same applies for the other options" yet the other options then do not work.
- The forum can only be visited after you log on to their site.
- They seem to have a strange concept of open source, open source without the community.
So if you really want that sliding effect and like figuring it all out, it is a decent module, but for a gallery for instance I have found Phoca to be far superior in stability and functionality, be it less flashy.

this is a very good component, it is not perfect, however it is very solid and has nice effects that you can implement, finally a slide show that is flexible and actually works with no mayor issues

This extension is awesome. I have a daily blog and this is perfect for keeping "important" stories on the front page.
This will triple, if not more, the clicks on featured articles.
Easy to set up, I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to improve the look of their site quickly and easily.

Thank you
Thank you
Great component. One of the best around, and it's FREE! Thanks for this. If you have trouble installing it, be sure to read the PDF -- you have to unzip the package first!

I have downloaded the PhotoSlide GK2 extension, and used now on my site, it is great from general perspective, While I found an issue, not sure if it is a bug, or my config problem.
In my homepage, I have 3 positions: user1, user2 and user3. I placed the PhotoSlide GK2 module in each position, I found there will be more than one thumbnail picture have the green border, which seems abnormal. And also, I found the image rotation will be stopped after a while. And at this stage, if I click any thumbnail, there just got no response, which means the big picture will not be changed...
But if I only enable one position, such as user1 (user2 and user3 disabled), it is quite normal.
Is this a bug or config issue? The symptom is similar under firefox and IE.
My environment: Linux, php 5.2.5, mysql 5.0.37, and latest PhotoSlide GK2 2.1, I used the GK News Image III plugin. And my joomla version is 1.5.8. And another issue of this extension is the slow performance, looks like the css is dynamically created, if the author can add the cache functions of the css, will be much better...

I never thought I would see a free extension like this! They thought of everything! It is so easy to install and even comes with a well thought out user manual. My Grandma (who can't even email) could get this thing working (no offense Grandma)! The amount of user ability is amazing and with the step by step manual they practically do it for you. I'm sticking with this one for sure!

A high quality extension. Install, follow the documentation and, all run smooth as described. Once I installed, seem to be missplaced within my template. Tweaking a bit on CSS, and it shows great. Two thumbs up for the great component and the generously clear documentation.

This extension is amazing. I registered to the joomla website just for writing this review. The extension comes with a lot of great features which make it very flexible. I do not miss anything. It's so easy to use but the results are impressing.
Last but not least: The extension comes with an excellent documentation!

An awesome component that fills the need to have rotating images with superimposed text and links to article content. Nice set of configuration options without too much feature clutter. Two thumbs up on ease of installation and detailed documentation. Keep up the great work.
Wow! Can you say eye candy! Before you go out and buy a less useful mod give this a try. It takes some common sense to use but, i'm new to this joomla thing and I was able to figure it out. It is so much better than any that I paid for.
Thanks guys, beautiful.
