I just came across a gotcha. I installed this extension in order to redirect a page, and it worked fine except that the client wanted the URL masked. So I created a masked redirect outside Joomla, and removed the redirection from this extension. That left me with a blank list of redirects. And that brought the main page of the site down. Evidently it's not happy if it has nothing to do. I created a dummy redirect instruction ("google|http://google.com") and the site immediately came back up.
So do not install this extension if you have no work for it to do right now, but think you might need it in future. Or else give it something to do, even if it's only as above.

Perfect for redirecting links that don't fail but are no longer relevant. For example - Google search brings up site with various links from menu, but some might be old. Instructions not fantastic but it is extremely simple and fast to configure:
Example: index.php?this=that&etc=etc|index.php?newvar=999
Simple as that.

Thanks. I needed to set some redirection from the pre-joomla site to the joomla site pages. It works great.
Note, a blank line at the end of the list of URLs will create a redirect loop which is unresolvable. Make sure you don't do that, or go back and remove it when your site is 'gone'!

Quick fix for a redirect when a cpanel one didn't work. An article (with blank content) now links to another portion of my website, enabling me to post the article in a different category.
An elegant solution to a difficult problem. The plugin interface is minimal - as is the documentation!, but not much is needed. The code is lightweight and very simple but does the job nicely from a navigation perspective.
Worth saying that:
a) a blank line at the end of the list of URLs will create a redirect loop which is unresolvable.
b) if you have more complex urls they should be rendered
shorturl|/category/longurl (note leading slash on longurl) or can be fully qualified as in
shorturl||/http://yoursite.com/category/longurl
c) Support is excellent - feedback and solution to a query in less than 6 hours just before Christmas. Nice.

It helped me out of a index.php? redirect to index.php issue with my 1and1 dedicated server. Simple interface and effective.
I tried this first, but later changed to ReDJ. Just adding new URL redirections in a text box one after the other, looks like a mess when you have too many url's after a while.
In ReDJ, instead you also have a component, and you have a lot better view of everything.
It works, but I don't recoemmend it for those who have more than five or so links to redirect.

I just wanted to take the time to say thank you to Ross, who provided me with knowledgeable, courteous and timely (lightning fast) support; this is a great extension.
FYI - if you get thrown into an infinite loop on your homepage using JRedirect {stay calm} it is an easy fix; thanks to Ross who will be fixing this in the next version.
Solution for an infinite loop:
Go to the Plugin Manager and select JRedirect
Locate the Parameters box
Enter site specific information, using | to segregate old and new urls.
Example - To redirect http://example.com/product to
http://example.com/index.php?option=com_content&id=4 the entry would
look like this:
product|index.php?option=com_content&id=4

Fantastic plugin. Does the job well. I was looking to rename some articles, and didn't want to stuff up my search engine ranking. This is perfect.
for those of you who want to test it to see if it is SEO friendly, I found this website that
A) proves it works
B) is good for testing that you have set up your redirect right.
http://www.webconfs.com/redirect-check.php
You just put in your OLD URL, and it will tell you if the redirect is friendly, and where it goes to.
Magic! Thanks for writing the plugin!

Migrated to joomla 1.5.9 and on J 1.10.15 i was using artio joomsef. Links submitted to google were showing 404 coz of url changes due to migration. JRedirect helped to point the url to exact location. Now in google searches my links are as alive as they were earlier. Thanks :)
This is a very useful plugin! Just make sure you don't hit enter after the last option in the list, as it doesn't chop off this newline and will cause an infinite loop.
Other than that, great!
