This component is great, simple & functional!

At last something works, yes Alpharegistration worked for my website, after wasting one whole week with trial and errors and testing almost every security component in the web.
the only thing needed for new users is to get the public and private key from reCaptcha website.

First, it does exactly what it says it does - adds some much needed validation to your standard registration page. Then it goes beyond that with little touches, like Ajax checks against whether a username is already in use, password strength meter, and best of all BotScout support.

You'll need a (free) ReCaptcha keyset but that takes roughly 30 seconds to get. You'll also need a (free) Botscout API key but that takes even less time. Between those two spammers are going to have a hard time of it registering on your site. BotScout alone cuts most of them out.

I could do with a little more customization, the admin config is very bare-bones (missing css, looks like) and the Welcome/Intro header up top is too wide for a lot of sites, but those are minor tweaks that don't detract from the good work that went in to this.

I can see that it worked for others, but I was never able to get ReCaptcha to work. Entries were always refused as invalid, and nobody in the AlphaPlug forums responded to my requests for help.

Long time waiting for a recapcha module for joomla, finaly i found this one, the installation is easy, but there is a probleme :
while testing it i discovered that if you made a mistake typing a word the registration will success so people can register even the recapcha is incorrect: For example : study world , change d of world to b ,registration will be accepted ...

Only got 1 problem jQuery doesn't like my custom mootools scripts.

Since I set up my site to use Joomla I have used this component, and as a result I have not yet had any spam at all on the site. The easy integration with recaptcha is fantastic, and very simple to set up. The way that you can set up terms and conditions to pop up in small window is cool, and functional, for long documents. There is only one complaint I have, though I will resolve it with a little modification. The default header image ("Fill out form, Confirm email, Welcome") is too large, as a result at lower resolutions protrudes from the right of the page or is not visible (in the rhuk milkyway template). In any case this component is excellent, and any minor issues I am sure will be resolved in time.

It's working fine now. I wish somewhere in the description it had told me that you need to register at recaptcha.net to get the public and private keys. Would have saved me trawling through the forum reading all the other posts from people who couldn't get the recaptcha to display.

Thanks again Bernard! That 2.0.8 version brought a nice feature to block bots also by checking against BotScout database.

This is the best security registration with captcha.
Easy to install, but need a litle adjust when you use outer language...
1-After install open your favorite ftp client and connect to you site.
2-Donwnload directory components/com_alpharegistration/assets/images/en-gb to your computer.
3-Rename directory downloaded to your langage (eg. pt-br).
4-Upload renamed directory to your site in components/com_alpharegistration/assets/images/

Now the extension is running fine.

I recomand this plugin, is very nice.

This component is excellent i had a few problems regarding the JS part but in 5 minutes i got it solved browsing the forum for a solution.

Im not sure if Im missing what all the good reviews are for, but you cannot use recaptcha with this. So I fail to see why this is even needed if theres no extra security or captcha form.
Installation was very easy and quick. However there was no captcha. When I looked closer at captcha field, I realized I had to create an account and then install captcha. The link to install for joomla says the extension is no longer supported as it doesnt work for joomla 1.5. Very dissappointed to hear this as this is exactly what I have been looking for. If the captchas would work, I would give this an excellent review. Otherwise might as well use regular login as spammers can hit up both with their bots. If I missed something or am incorrect, please contact me and advise as such so I can update my review.

It works great! I am using it instead of the default registration and like the captcha. One thing I would like to see is some flexibility on adding more fields, such as address.

when i enable Search Engine Friendly URLs on global configuration-> SEO setting
it does not work. I am using Joomla 1.5.12 same problem in 1.5.11 i tested this two version.
compatibility issue.

This registration protection/management works great. The developteam should include this into Joomla 1.6 for sure! This prevents a lot of Russian spam accounts! :)

A suggestion for the next release would be to look at Search Engine Friendly URL's! component/alpharegistration/?task=register

I am sure you can do better than that. What about www.mydomain/en/register ?
