It does almost anything I wanted on an ACL component, it controls access to menus, to content items, modules and other things. It installs flawlessy in Joomla 1.5.12 spanish.

It misses (as I know) control on creation/update/modify/delete sections and categories, and the spanish language pack, this one is not a problem, because I can translate it and share it. Good work!

Hi,

This is an incredible ACL FREE component.
You should read the official topic before you start for some important informations.
Having tried other ACL solutions I found this extension today and installed it. At first, I was lost, however after going to the forum I was up and running in no time. Now I have a happy client that has the features that he specified.

Part of the adventure of using open source software is the search for answers. I guess it is the thrill of the chase for me. However, some users are not so tolerant and may find the lack of documentation a deal killer on this extension.

If you download this extension and have a hard time. Just be patient and you will find the answers you need. The work will be worth the results!
I searched tor this componente for long time. It is excelente. Once you leran how to use, you can do everything it promisses... Congratulations
I install the ext but could not get it to work on the frontend. Also this ext takes over your Joomla ACL, so if you customized your ACL I would suggest not going live unless your comfortable with the settings and ext.

I have to say there are a few things about this addon I simply can't get over:

1. The Default DENY permission. While I see a lot of users complaining about it, from a systems administrators, a+, and network+ certified professional this is always what I want to see. Though it takes some time to initially set up you people need to realize that if your looking for security you want it to be this way as this is what makes a plus in my book.

2. The price, for what you get: an amazing script, a developer open to new ideas, and the community as a support team, this is how programing should be.

3. Secondary groups, while I know that this doesn't sound like a lot it helps administration a LOT

with that being said, one of the main things i did wish to see in it would be support for component views either naturally in joonmla or having a command that developers could use to say that they wanted access restriction

Overall a very good program
If the developer provided even a small amount of documentation this component would get 5 stars from me.

At first I downloaded the component and two plugins (system and user) but kept getting locked out of articles and menus, even as Super Administrator.

I reinstalled, uninstalled, tried older versions ... banged my head against the wall. But the problem was that I hadn't really come to terms with it conceptually.

Once you realise that you need to enable permissions for all the categories you need to use (even as super administrator) you're away. Set up some dummy accounts, and start applying specific group permissions to categories of content. If, like me, you install this component and think "What the hell??", persist. It really does work!

Best of all it's not encrypted and doesn't come with a reassuringly expensive price tag.

Thanks very much NoixACL developers for working within the spirit of the Free Software, not just the letter.
Developers are highly encouraged and support seems to be fine. Nevertheless, noixACL simply didn't meet my expectations, simply lacks basic features. Being aware of the fact that ACL under J15 has to be a workaround and not a "clean" solution I must say that there are better solutions available. I experimented a lot with various ACL extensions as well as noixACL and JUGA and finally stuck to Community ACL. If you have a time-pressing project running, don't waste your time - go ahead, spend some money and get Community ACL. (btw, the name is misleading - it simply supports CB in addition, it's designed to work as a standalone solution).

I see Comunity ACL before i start development from noixACL component. This component is really complete but for some users is confuse to grant/manage permissions(lot of steps). New version of noixACL is better to developing new Adapters to take control of your joomla! the new system help users to search and updates your adapters. The idea is you can control only with you wish. the users knows can chose what the best solution independent of the solution is payed or not.

I have tried to configure noixACL to get public access to an article while publishing is limited to some users. Not a success but I guess I will have the response soon in the forum.
Joomla major drawback is the lack of proper access control, numerous solutions are developped free for a limited period of time such as JUGA which is now extremely expensive or JACL which hacks Joomla Code.
Hope that this new component will get a good response from the beta tester we are and will remain free.

I have been needing this for a really long time and found it by chance today. All of my websites right now need some sort of "additional content management" regarding membergroups..

I found a commercial one that looks real nice, but it has hacks to the code...

This was free and is way better than the demo I seen on the commercial extension site.

Way to go. You got my full support on this one!

I have finally managed to implement access control thanks to noixacl. The component works fine and is pretty easy to install and configure.
After a week of research I decided to use Joomla as my CMS.

As a beginner user I had some initial difficulty getting the this tool to work, but *all* answers can be found on the forum, and the developer is very good at providing users with feedback, once more the few features that it does lack the developer is listening to users and actively adding requested functionally and bug fixes.

What more could you ask for from a free tool.

Thanks,
joomila
After buying, testing and deinstalling two off the most popular tools here in joomla.org i take a look at noixacl. at my testpage i give up after the first installation (shame shame i forget to active the plugin) so it didnt worked.
one week later i installed again, and it worked,
and it worked fine, i have 7 users and 2 !extra!(noixacl) groups. i give this groups rights (view some menu items view some wrapper links view some components. AND i give every user extra rights to view see addtitional entrys in the main menu, edit some extra content pages AND in the backend extra rights.... this worked fine and the gui is fast and very intuitive.
BUT i get an error when i am clicking in the backend on the modules link... and i only can accessed it after i disabled the plugin.
And yet i musst say !!! I GET THE BEST SUPPORT EVER SEEN IN 15 YEAR in IT !!! i opened a new thread in the forum and get my error(s) solved in less than 24 hours !!! Thanx Renato :-)
For every one they are searching for a excellent ACL, take this extension and save your money.
Thanx NOIXACL Team.

I do not normally submit reviews - but i had to congratulate the developers of this component.

I was looking for a solution to give different groups access to different menus - this component has made this task very simple.

Good luck with this project.
This was so simplistic to use, unlike JACL there are no files to patch, no encrypted files or license keys needed.

Does what it says it does but with ease.

The money i would have wasted on being a chartered member of JACL will now be donated to this project!

My only wish was that this was released sooner!

If your looking for a ACL solution this is it!
Excellent extension!! Spent some time trying to find a component that would let me assign permissions to groups of users independently, with no luck (unless I paid good money)... Noixacl is easy to use, intuitive and it WORKS!!!

Thanks for your work!!

I have been spending weeks on some other terrible access controls and paying for them like "simpleACL" (never worked like it said - don't waste your time) and "junga" (was entirely too complicated to setup - may work though). This tool was amazing. The down side is there was no documentation so I had to work through it. But it worked like a charm. And I'm so thankful for this tool. I can now close this project that I've been working on! Documentation will make this a PRO product.
bytbeckle on March 15, 2009
i agree with pnut. Having tried juga, juga is way too complicated for the average user. Why give away an older version with no support, no documentation. That's just silly, you only alienate your potential future customers. Give it away entirely or don't give it at all. That's what I say.

Now, noixacl sorta worked out of the box. I am able to restrict some content (articles) from some user groups, but having issue with containing a category to a certain group. I'm sure it's just me, so next step is to try to find documentation and/or forums.

Thanks noixacl and open GPL.
Cheers,
S2TM
I tried and everything worked great! Great concept to use adapter. I encountered a little problem. When I tried to use split menu, I was not able to find the access control to the split menu. Not sure if it was because I did not fully understand how it worked.
