Do you want a Joomla ACL?

I wrote this Model View Controller component that wants to be a supplement to the group management in Joomla 1.5 in order to manage user access to individual resources (in the next future upgradable to 1.6 version of Joomla).

The Joomla groups are extended and each user can belong to one or more groups. Each group defines one or more rules, each of which tends to assign the access rights to components, sections, categories and articles.

The same applies to modules which can be viewed only with permission.

Finally, you can manage the visibility of individual CSS Block. Each CSS Block can be viewed only by authorized users in the group.

First of all, it is a great component.

Cons:
- not everything is localized to English (notifications are in Italian I guess)
- there are some typos in EN translations
- still I don't get 'Typology' thing in Users on Groups, + to see all users in Users on Groups /esp. newly created one/ I need to press New then Cancel, then the list refreshes.

Pros:
- works out of the box, though some time is needed to understand how it works

The only strange thing is that this component includes The Flowplayer API (.js) to generate front site pages, + flow player swf files are being added on the server.

It seems to be a good extension, but after installing I lokked up developer website, hoping to learn how to set it up. Unfortunately the video presented is really bad. Quality is poor, no audio and all screens are (italian I guess), which makes this help useless (at least for me). English isn't my native language, but I would really appreciate if people - developers and those who make tutorials understand that in the internet era, English is a basic communication language. Another words I would like to see some DOCs or video in English - period! (even if your english is not perfect, it would be better than silence)

I'm Sorry for my English, now i write only in italian on my site and then it will be google transalte to do the rest on every language, not only English. I'm uploading the new videos with new label in english because with the new version 1.5.0 there are new important features also on the interface.
However I suggest to not vote my component if you don't understand how it runs. The vote is on the software not on the documentation. Thanks

The download and install completed perfectly. The function and logic work. A little confused about module display, hide and css management.

Ok, is still beta stage, but I test it v1.4.5 is nice.
I like to say to MBorges (To Developer too) I have same message "YOU MUST CREATE AN ITEM FIRST." before to read carefully (and watched the video too).
So just shold to train the extension, I like it a lot.
Plese do something for reinstallation of newer versions!

I found the problem, you must create at least one section and one category before. However in the next version i want to inform the user of this with a warning message. Thanks you for your review. ;-)

This extension saved us from a premature upgrade to Joomla! 1.6, we needed to avoid backend user to make distasters and it works like a charm ;)

I found some *LITTLE* imperfection but I've sent an e-mail to the developer and after 2 days there is a new release which fixes it, GREAT :)!

This all seems promissing, and I thank the developer for all the hard work but I can't make it work.
I've followed all the steps from the video and managed to create a new group, a new user and then 2 content rules in my test environment.
The folowing day I tried adding new content rules and it always returns to the control panel page with the following message:
"YOU MUST CREATE AN ITEM FIRST."

I deleted the content rules, the user djfacl and the group. Tried to create all new and when I get to the content rules it does the same thing all over again.
Reinstalled fresh joomla and it does the same.
I'm using Joomla 1.5.21.

Help please!

I could give this 5 stars, but when I set up a mod with an ACL, it works correctly and shows when the correct user is logged in, but it doesn't show my header of the module. But if I turn off the ACL it shows just fine. For some reason it removes the header and doesn't show it.
Owner's reply

Thanks. However you can choose if show or not the module title by the mod_djfacl bridge. Otherwise if you want a particular graphic aspect you can also write a template override of the module in wich you can design your personal graphics, infact the component is MVC (Model view controller) so you can do it if you want.

As said, the idea is good, but i am also unable to prevent users from usergroup A to edit items of usergroup B.
Owner's reply

It's not really true, you can obtain this result with creating a specific section or category for a specific group. In the content panel you could assign the correct rights to each one. The content created by the users of a group will be not editable from the users of another one. I think i could think an automatic solution, however.

I like the idea behind this extension. However somehow I am not able to prevent users from an usergroup editing and saving articles that are meant for another usergroup.

Hello, I was trying to find something to restrict for accessing creating and editing a section/category to a user. After having tested: all of the free extensions available: NOIXACL, core design plugin, frontend-user-access; the only one to do the job with ease is this one!

Thank you.

OK So after a while I got this working and at first glance thought this was great EXCEPT...

1. Every single user right has to be created individually. You cannot have a group say Area1 with say SubArea1, SubArea2, SubArea3 and set Area1 to have the same access to all 3.

2. THE BIGGEST FLAW...if you log in as a user and you copy the URL then, even if you are logged out, you can paste the URL to get full access!

If this is corrected then I feel the solution is good. But if your talking about sensitive data forget it!
Owner's reply

The first point is really that because at moment each new group created should contain all the explicit permission, I have not yet implemented the inheritance of the groups. I think I do it with the stable version.

The second point I disagree, because i tried, if I copy the URL from an user logged in and i paste it after the user is gone, he stays out. I don't understand what you have seen, please try again.

Nice work!, and i must say i´ve tried other ACLs including Noix(great comp) but no one suits me like this one, excellent the way you manage groups!!

I´m thinking using it in a corporative intranet. But the lack of compatibility with J! user friendly URLs is a serious flaw for me. Hope you can fix it soon.

By the way it does´t matter J!1.6 is around the corner, a lot of people will never upgrade their good-old 1.5 sites to 1.6, so your comp will be widely used for sure.

Hi, this feature is surely released with stable version.
