I needed something to create new groups and manage them. Afteer having tried a bunch of them I came across this one.
I'll definitely say that it is an awesome component: installed it in a click, and in 2 more clicks managed new groups and users.
Fast, simple and reliable !

Its really nice component.Saves lot of time.
I got this component to integrate with AEC and DocMan to create a subscription web site, and have found it to be exactly what I neeed.
Installation was fairly straightforward, although there are a few peices to it - be sure to watch the installation video - if you do that you should have no problems.
Thanks for a very cool and useful extension.

I have been at this for two days now and I finally figured out how to get to the instructions as well as the adapters. The instructions is indeed at http://www.blueflyingfish.no-ip.biz/joomla15/ as provided in below thread but the files do point back to this website (joomla.org) specifically on this web page: http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/noixacl/frs/?action=FrsReleaseBrowse&frs_package_id=4352 I hope this helps those looking for the instructions and the files. Remember to download NOIXACL2.0.6 first then the modules and adapters on the link above. You will need to register to view the instructions - once you do that you can view the instruction files on the left menu. Hope this helps.

This is truly an excellent extension. The key to using this extension is matching the access level that you are trying to achieve, with the correct files and version to download. This is EXPLICITLY detailed in the tutorial referenced in the extensions' forum (i.e. the tutorial located at http://blueflyingfish.no-ip.biz/joomla15/). You do have to register to view the content, but it is well worth the inconvenience. Frankly, when I initially went to download this extension, I was unsure which versions of each of the components and plugins that I needed. After viewing the tutorial on http://blueflyingfish.no-ip.biz/joomla15/, it stated the exact components and versions that I needed. I followed the 'Installation Instructions', and the examples provided in the task that I was trying to accomplish, and my setup was a breeze. I highly recommend this extension to anyone that needs this functionality now and can't wait for the production release of Joomla! 1.6
please change each "jos_" in your query with "#__" because i've spent all the morning trying to understand why your mod_mainmenu didn't hide my menu items!
furthermore i've added this task to the menu adapter:
remove
cancel
cancelItem
accessregistered
accessspecial
accesspublic
orderdown
orderup

I give this one two stars only because it has the potential to work great for those who feel like burning a day or two on trial and error. If not for the potential, it would have been 1 star.
The main problem with this extension is a serious lack of documentation. They did add some installation instructions, but that is it. There is nothing to tell you how to set this thing up or to configure it, and having wasted a few hours on it, I still dont have it working properly.
Having basic documentation would solve this problem. I did find a buried link that pointed me to an outside site for documents (which should have been available on the development docs board). Unfortunately, it requires registration to view the docs and they never sent me the activation link. There is no way for non-members to contact them, so I can't even ask them to look into it.
I have also found some bugs during my brief use of the product. I consider them serious, but you may have a different opinion --
1. If you delete a Group, all accounts that are part of that group become ghosts on your system. They are still in the database, but they can not log in and are not shown in the member list.
2. Making changes to a group does not change anything. I set up a group and then went back to edit it. I tried several times to edit/change the configuration of the group, and no settings were ever saved. As soon as I clicked save, everything remained the way it was before the changes.
Recommendation -- Unless you just have a lot of free time to waste, I would say to move on past this one. You're better off to spend a few dollars on a commercial ACL package that has proper documentation and support. THIS ONE WAS HIGHLY DISAPPOINTING.

After using this component for some time now, I decided to post my review here.
I run a website for roughly 200 users from whom a few have additional rights. I have configured these rights in noixACL groups.
It is absolutely not for the faint hearted to try to make this component work as you would want. When I started with this component no tutorial or documentation was available whatsoever. Fortunately this has changed and you can find good tutorials via this link (requires registration):
(it even describes usage with QVARNIS, EventList, K2, Phoca Download, Virtuemart, Kunena, CB and DOCMan 1.4 !!!)
I have made this work with both backend users and frontend users and it works like a charm. There are a few small issues though:
- When editing users from noixACL it returns to the joomla users screen after save.
- When using the filter option in any tab, it is remebered in other tabs, requiring an extra mouse click to reset the filter.
- Saving certain access levels is not saved in the database, requiring you to do it manually (advanced!)
- New groups do not automatically have access to items in the frontend of the parent group they were assigned to. Example: a new group is assigned to the publisher parent group (joomla default) with additional rights. This group is not able to access content items set to 'special access level'.
There is fortunately a (simple) solution for this. It took me hours of trying different things to fin out so be thankful ;-)
If you disable the content-adapter in noixACL, the access level problem described above is solved.
Joomla 1.6 will be having native ACL, so do not expect the author of this component to solve any of this. You will have to make do with what you find in forums or in this review.
Good luck!

Hi, I use this extension in my site, it works great thanks :). Although I'm not using full power of the access-right but it suffice my need.
The only problem is I spent 3 days of googling and try to set things up. Really2 hard to deploy if :
1. you don't know what are needed for installation
2. how is the framework
3. example of make this work
Really I had hard time to set this up, but it pays. Anyway it will be perfect if there is comprehensive step by step tutorial on this. Thanks Again and hopefully there are improvements on the components as well as documentation support :)

I installed this extention, which went smoothly. The admin interface is clear although some proper, clear documentation of how to use this system would be useful. Since I could not do with this extention what I needed to do (not the extensions fault) I deinstalled it and my whole site went down. Blank front-end, blank back-end. Perhaps this needs more looking into...
I can't believe all the bad reviews on here, especially the latest one. I had this extension installed and running in two clicks, I didn't even have to download it but could install it from the authors site.
The extension is extremly comprehensable, everything does exactly what you expect it to, manage user groups - does just that, add more usergroups, remove existing ones, etc. This is absolutely perfect for me as I needed something to give specific access to some parts of my kunena forum extension - that's right, it even works with other extensions flawlessly.
I even registered this account to write this review because I thought many others on here were unfair, this is the first review I've written after using joomla extensions for the last year.
Only bad thing I can say about this is that this should be basic Joomla functionality and should not have to be added as an extension.
Double thumbs up.

When I installed Joomla 1.5 and saw that JACL no longer came as a free extension, I freaked out, because I really needed this functionality and I was afraid I might not be able to find it, especially not for free. And then comes the Holy Grail of ACL: NoixACL.
This extension works great and does everything you want it to. In fact, its features are so extensive that I couldn't begin to see the end of its possibilities. To be honest, most of its features I am not using as I don't need them to be that specific, but they're there for those who do. What I need it for, it works perfect!
I have tested to see if the usergroups that you create manually with NoixACL, are also recognized by other extensions. And with all extensions I have tested it (including Joomlapolis' CBSubs), it seems to integrate just fine! The only extenion that didn't recognize my manually made ACL groups, was Docman 1.4. Other than that, no problems at all.
And what's most important (particularly in comparison with JACL plus/pro), it does not hack core files!
So if you're looking for more ACL functionality, you'll definitely want to try this extension first!

Well!!! All you have given negative rating to this component must be wondering where I am coming from. I also have spent a lot of time playing around with this comp and lemme tell you if you do not understand the architecture and design of this component and usage patter, your review will be negative even after years. This component is DAMN easy if you understand it. I LOVE THIS COMPONENT. JUST NEEDS BETTER DOCS
It might be a great tool, but it is really hard to use it.
First of all download files of this component don't categorized
The second thing is that Access levels option is not working at all.
And the last thing is that to hide menu item based on user groups you need to remove your menu with noix_mod_menu. But sometimes it is impossible like for RocketTemplates. I found topic for this issue but salvation is not working for me at least.

I am not an amateur Joomla user. I've used it for years and have lots of experience using extensions.
I could not figure out how to get this to work. It seems that there are many different pieces you must install, and not all of them are available for download.
After I installed what I could find/figure out, I lost all access to editing articles in my back end.
Luckily I tried this on a sandbox site first.
It would not be so bad if there was proper documentation and instructions, of which there are absolutely none, and the native language of the authors is not English. They should install an English language pack on their website so we can figure this out!

First off, as has been repeated, their website is absolutely horrible in teaching you how to install, and use this extension. It took me about an hour to get it all installed, and get the new plugin to work, only to have it not update my groups or really allow any control. Was a bit like being in a dark room, knowing where the light switch is, but nothing happening when it turns on.
Now that I have the plug-ins and components uninstalled I am getting 403 errors on just about any link I place anywhere, and I think its something to do with the Menu module, even tho its installed.
STAY AWAY!
