I tried Juga and couldn't figure it out or it wasn't working properly. I tried to pay them for support and never heard back.
Then I found this! I installed the trial version, sent a message to Carsten and heard back immediately. I had what I wanted (limited backend access to selected users) within minutes.
It's a powerful extension and offers you customized interfaces for your users. If you are like me and are using it for Workflow strategies within an organization - it should work just fine. If you are just trying to clean up the muck on the admin side for certain users and let them see just Articles or certain Components.... yep it does that too.

This is officially my favorite extension. It is EXTREMELY powerful and it doesn't force you to buy anything. The free version does a LOT.
I can keep clients that like to click on everything (and break it) staying in specific areas and give them a completely custom admin menu. I love this extension and I don't know what I'd do without it.

I installed this extension completly in the free version to try it out. And it is not matching the description at all. Most of the features like module and plugin access are not supportted in the free version (unlike the author writes here). And without those features this extension is sort of useless. I honestly cannot understand all the other ratings, either they are for the pro version or the users needs are not rly high. I expected alot from this extension and what i got? Nothing at all! - Some useless script which is just taking away space.
You heard right - you cannot even uninstall this extension properly. You also cant apply your own templates since it uses its own styles in the back-end configuration.
With this extension and fake description the author almost "forces" the user to buy the product. And that is completly unaccaptable.
Oh yes, forgot to say: The support on this product is even worse than the product itself.

Took me a little while to get the hang of this, but now that I have done I feel I should write and give the author a pair of thumbs up. This is just what I was looking for and it's working perfectly.
One gotcha which had me digging around in the code when I didn't need to was that I'd forgotten to publish the user plugin. D'oh! The component flags config errors with the associated modules, but not the plugin, so watch for that one.

If you template does not have the position "HEADER" it is impossible to install this module. For example if you use the yoothemes (which have headerleft & headerright) you will not be able to use this component.

OMG, this is so awesome and long overdue! Thank you so very much! I have been looking for something like this for quite a while. This component works EXACTLY as described and is very well documented. I have been able to give my client just the access he needed! So perfect. Thank you.
This is honestly a great extension. I really don't know why someone should give this less than 5 stars.
I personally use it, it was ok to configure and even better to test. Worked out of the box, everything great. Keep up the good work!

We needed different branches of an organisation to be able to edit/add articles only in their own category. I spent a couple of days trying to get all the other free ones to do this, but this did it very easily - & it works front-end & back!
Dont need the paid version to do this, but is tempting as its a fine product so far (3 hours after installing).
If you've not fiddled with joomla ACL before, it will always take getting used to, but compared to other similar oomponents, its probably the simplest to use.

This product does precisely what it says. If you are not willing to wait and experiment with 1.6, this is a useful extension. Support is excellent.

1. I needed to keep my customers admin user away from certain parts.
2. I needed to create an admin environment tailor-made for them that were easy to understand and work in.
I bought the pro-version and realized not only is this a must have extension but the developer behind it are extremely competent and more than willing to help you.
Looking forward to more extensions from this developer, I will purchase them all.

Excellent extension. Easy to implement. Free edition is a little limited, but did the job for me. Won't need the pro version just yet but will definitely buy it once I need it. I love the amount of options!

This is by far the easiest ACL extension I've come across. I needed something to control what Managers and Administrators get access to, and this fits my needs perfectly. Gets a bit of time to get used to, but as soon as you start playing with it, you'll get it in no time. Good work.
