This component make NO HACKS to the code.
It's all independent and you can integrate with any component that is already in use. All you need is to create and ADAPTER.
Install now noixACL and take control of content, modules and menu.
With noixACL you area able to:
- Create Access Levels
- Control content permissions in backend: publish, unpublish, section and category, etc.
- Control access frontnend
- Control menutype access in backend: publish, unpublish, categories, tash, etc.
- Control frontend access item
- Control block modules for access level registered

This component, while still in beta, is being actively developed by Joomila. Support, through Joomla! forums, is pretty quick and thorough. The author appears committed to producing a useful and functional ACL enhancement to the core Joomla! and is very responsive in the Joomla! forums with updates, upgrades and feature enhancements.
You can restrict user access to menu links, effectively adding roles to your Joomla! installation.
That rocks!
For functionality (remember it IS in beta) I would rate this component "Good," but the author's willingness to keep at it and make it better and better definitely upgrades this component to "Excellent!"

I've tried whatever else is readily available out there, most give nothing but errors. noixACL on the other hand works for me right out of the box and it is FREE, a prerequisite due to non-profit development.
Once this component gets a few more adapters ... it'll be the "top dog in town"! :)

Well, I like others love the idea. I installed today and it went in with no problems. I was able to create the groups that I wanted but I have no idea how to restrict content to members of that group.
I know the author said that it would be in English but there are several locations that are not english. Not a major point as you can tell what it is.
I also went to the web site for support and docs but there was nothing on the site. At least nothing easy to find. I did find some jpg files for version 2 but it did not help with me trying to figure this tool out.

For days and days I was looking for that great tool (I thought I'd become mad).
I just installed and started the noixACL. It matches exactly what I was looking for (add few groups & menus & sections restrictions) and it's so simple to admin!!!
Go on guys! Take of all the portuguese language which is left.

I tested this extension and for a beta version it's more then OK. As i can see it's not a hack like other acl extension.
In this stage it can deny acceess to items from menu redirecting user from other groups (who can not view that page to a 404 error page.
This extension have a lot of potential...

The idea is great, but i`ve installed it. Some things are in portuguese and some things in English. Lot of PHP errors.
If it is out of beta i`ll use it.

In new version of noixACL all language is english.
