The Joomla! Extensions Directory ™

After 5 years of using Joomla I'm finally writing a review. Rarely in life do we find things that exceed are expectations but this does just that. Saved me a day’s work at the end of a long and difficult job...hats of to the Akeeba Team!!!! My only advice would be to add a bullet point version of the documentation. Please more products!

Akeeba Backup is amazingly useful and simple to use.

I've never had problems on Linux-based servers (some folders' reading permissions problems on Windows, but that is understandable): just click a button and you will have a complete and auto restoring backup of all your site!

This is awesome!

I don't usually write reviews (I really should as I find them useful), but I felt compelled to on this occasion. This extension is amazing, and I can't quite believe it's free. The work that must've been put in by the developer is astounding, and I thank you very much. Back ups are completely pain free and completely automated should you wish.

Went Live with a web site and the very first day the host had server problems! Because of this program I had the whole web page moved to a new host in under 5 minutes, faster than the DNS change! Thanks!

PS. Lazy Akeeba is awesome as well! Love the fact the web sites automatically back themselves up and send the files to my email.

This extension works every time. I've created and managed hundreds of Joomla! websites, and this extension (other it's various generations) has made my life much easier. Kudos to the guys who created it. Buy the professional versions if you can to support continued development -- the extra functionality is worth it and rewards quality work that contributes real value to our community!

THis extension is fantastic. Can u add an emailing function that can automatically send a copy of the backup to an email address?

This component is an absolute must for joomla. I wish I knew about it before.

Last time I had a site hacked I found my backup sadly lacking. This time, thankfully, I had Akeeba Backup installed. Choose Akeeba and be back on the web in minutes.

I've just got Akeeba Backup Core right now. The follow up and service has been fantastic. The free support is better than many of the paid support programs I've encountered. Approached them with a back up issue I encountered and it was corrected with friendly support. The product itself is highly functional and simple. I use it now in all my sites as backup and as a simple way to transfer servers.

Wooow! is the only word that comes up to me ... The most boring thing on having multiple sites: Right, making backups again and again and keep them stored safely on other locations than the server only. And thats exactly what Akeeba does in combination with Akeeba remote control. And within minutes. And for free!

I've never submitted a review before but I'm so impressed with this add-on that I've joined the site to add one for this product.

I consistently had issues with Joomla where my home-made backups downloaded using FTP had whole directories worth of files missing. I couldn't find any help of how to fix it so it was down to googling "joomla backup" and I came across this add-on.

I looked at the other reviews and gave it a go, always half expecting something to fail along the way because I'm on a shared hosting package. Not so! This worked perfectly!

Basically you install the module, check the settings against the documentation (read this properly first) and make a backup. Simple as. You are left with a single 5mb+ file that contains your settings, your directories and your database setup.

I was very twitchy at first with using this module (as I am testing with any new module) so I made a backup of a clean Joomla install using Akeeba. I downloaded the created backup file to my PC and using FTP I wiped out my joomla folder. Then I re-uploaded the backup file that was created to the (now) empty directory. After reading the documentation I downloaded a single file called kickstart.php - I uploaded the kickstart file to sit alongside the backup and I ran the kickstart file through the browser. I followed the onscreen instructions and 2 minutes later my site was back up and running again.

I was even blown away by the fact you can change your database settings, hosting settings and name of the site itself. You could effectively use this software to install a Joomla package with all the modules you need, make a backup and deploy the backup anywhere you need a Joomla site.

Thankfully you have saved me hours worth of work having to do (now untrusted) FTP backups of files and folders. Now I have a series of backup files on my PC knowing that if anyone goes wrong I can restore it all in about 5 or 10 minutes.

Now to sum up - get this module! Read the instructions first before you do anything though! It isn't hard to use but anything new needs to be learned; so take the time out to read the instructions and save yourself days worth of time with backups in the future.

A must have for everybody seriously running a Joomla base website who wants to backup the whole site or just the database. There is a real documentation and even support videos available, which is not the case on every commercial component! I had problems with my installation, not backing up correctly my database. The support was more then professional, and they helped me till the problem was solved. Five stars are definitely not enough, I give 10!

This should be a core extension, it is certainly one of my standard extensions I install on all sites.

However, while the functionality is great, the developers have take too much liberty in my view in designing the user interface. Instead of trying to make it a standard Joomla component, the interface looks like something from another CMS.

I would be very helpful if some of the more serious extension developers took a hint from Drupal and made their extensions actually look like part of Joomla.

I honestly don't understand how anyone could rate this extension any less than 5 stars! In my opinion it is one of the best designed and best implemented extensions available for Joomla and an absolute must-have for anyone that needs to manage multiple Joomla sites. I've seen many "commercial" extensions that aren't as good and don't have the support that these developers offer for free!

Most amazing component. I stayed with a hosting service for a year or more dreading the idea of how to move a dozen Joomla sites without breaking them. This has worked better than any other method tried and has taken a huge e-monkey off my back! Akeeba & the kickstart script work perfectly.

Akeeba is a "must have" extension if you value the ability to backup and restore your websites.

The extension is professionally crafted with an excellent GUI and fully configurable for working in multiple webserver environments.

I had some problems getting it going due to restrictions on the free hosting accounts I was using. However, I received great support from the forum. These guys wouldn't give up.

I had to recently update my sites. Did not work well under mysql, but this extension works well for me.

Very easy to install, backup and restore
to same server or local server or new server.

Also support is great.
