Is Cron really the only way to automate a backup? I had been using a tool that sent me an e-mail of the database every night; that was awesome, then the db got to big and it stopped working. That is why i tried this. It does work, but it seemed like i needed to babysit it to work. Some of the selection menus for which files you want to update are missing check all / uncheck. Why would you put the option on one menu and not the next? I don't understand how i can copy the database and all the files, but still exclude components... It did manage to backup a very large site with a ton of files to a zip file on my server. I think it will be a great tool when i figure out the cronjob setup. It says that it is a cloner, i have not tried that feature yet... could prove to be very useful for deploying a base site with a base setup of components and plugins installed.

I needed to clone one of my sites and I purchased this product to do it.

If I was only allowed one word for the review I would use 'suh-WEEET!'

I eaily installed the component; the interface is beautiful and totally intuitive (of course I'm not going to slow down long enough to read the manual!).

I was able to back up my site, clone it and get it working on the new domain in about half an hour - and the only reason it took me that long is because I DIDN'T read the instructions.

I'd tried several components as well as my hosting services for backing up my Joomla sites and was never able to get them to work well enough to get a clean working copy - and after putting (sometimes countless) hours of work into getting them installed, configured and adding content THAT's a pretty scary thing.

I had an issue with how I'd configured the site to be cloned and I got a response to my post for support within half an hour and the instructions to fix it were so clean and helpful that I had the issue resolved within minutes.

I purchased the lifetime supply of updates and support for this product and I look forward to using it for many years to come.

Definitely worth every penny of the purchase price and I can't recommend it highly enough, and may even have to come back and edit my review when something else to rave about comes to mind.

Hope that helps,

I have bought this component, and i'm glad i did it.
This tool works perfectly. I changed 8 sites from one server to another so quickly i could not believe it.

The minor problems i had, due to my inexperience, were solved with their support. They answer really quickly.

Congratulations. Keep going!

I highly recommend this component. It was worth every penny. I thought there was a problem when I tried to use it and I submitted a support request. The response was very prompt and accurate. The problem was with some other issue on my site that didn't have anything to do with the JoomlaCloner, but they still provided excellent support. If you are considering purchasing this product, don't wait another second.

This is my most basic must have for a site right after joomlaXplorer. All my sites get backed up to a remote hosted server every night. Zero problems, plus they have other must have tools like auto installer.

what can i say? This component does what it says.....theres no spin going on here. It's saving me hours in design and backup and the support is exceptional. I was so impressed i had to write this review.....I would of preferred to send a box of chocolates but i guess J.Cloner will have to settle for this.

Thanks

Q. what did the big chimney say to the little chimney ?

Last month three of my joomla sites were hacked and defaced. Days of painful recovery and lost revenue were enough to finally take a hard look at my security and my backup systems. I found JoomlaCloner and made a commitment to implement as part of my core Joomla tools.

Unlike other simpler, non critical extensions, this one requires that you read all the documentation. A very small price to pay, given the alternatives of a hacked and destroyed site without backup!.

Although JoomlaCloner may at first seem complicated to the noobie, (er like me at WAMP)who tried to stubbornly implement without asking a couple of basic questions....I have to say, the support offered was exceptional.

I recieved immediate response and had my fully functional backup and localhost server implementation running like a dream.
I can now develop and test new features on my localhost 'test' sites and publish to my live production sites as needed. But better yet, I have peace of mind that no matter what may happen to my live sites, I have a backup plan and tools to fully restore my live sites quickly and easily.

Clone or die. Your choice.

Great component for backing up your site (Please don't learn the hard way that you MUST back up your site OFTEN) and/or transferring your site to a new hosting provider.

Also, the customer support is EXCELLENT.

This does the job in a very simpel and functionel way.
One of those "must have" components for sure.
Using it on all my sites and my clients too.
I havnt tried the clone function yet, but the backup to ftp etc. works flawlessly.

Good Job

Having struggled to find an easy way of backing up a site i backed up and transferred my site within about an hour (max) of deciding to buy the component.
The site was seriously hacked in the past, I can sleep easier now.
Minor point, I used the Joomlahacks SMF bridge, after transferring to a new domain, you have to go to the bridge component, change the path and repatch the files (another 10 seconds!)
Probably the best component I have installed

I just got finished moving my site from a /joomla folder to the main root.

It was complicated a little by the hosting company's permissions and that they had two config.php files.

The staff at Joomla Plug worked on it over the course of hours. (I have about a dozen emails in my inbox of us going back and forth trying to figure it out.)

Where can you ever get such support? I bought the $100 version and have found it to be totally worth it. Somethings just can't be commercial free. Backing up a joomla site is one of them.

Hi,
I bought a license of JoomlaCloner 2 days ago because I had problems cloning my site to my new host and wouldn't spend my whole Holidays on working to get my new site up and running.
Within Hours the whole site (190 MB) was cloned to a temporary account and today again in no time to my actual (new) account.
The support provided was excellent!
Reply's on my emails within minutes, fixes of minor problems (settings of rights) even faster. They even fixed problems that I had with some components like gallery1.
You know: Dutch ppl are not particularly fast on spending money but these are the best $$ ever spend on web tools.
For me is JoomlaCloner a must have component!

I cant over-compliment the customer support provided by the makers of this program. They helped me through email support often less than half an hour with most questions.

The program itself does exactly what it says, and I was able to clone my site on a completely different server!

I feel great now having a backup for all my hard work.

After some initial teething problems, we have finally got this component to a point where its working perfectly. This is almost totally down to the help of Ovidiu from JC who provided us with a first class support service. I can't speak highly enough of this guy who worked over and above the call of duty for us. I only wish other Joomla developers were as good as it would make our lives a lot easier.

Thanks again Ovidiu, your product and service is top notch!

This component is incredible. I had three different cloned sites running, and passed changes among them until I was ready to go live, then I cloned my original site just to be sure, and then put the working copy right over top in a matter of minutes.

I did have a spot of trouble when I first started, but it was because my site is large (300mb) and I had server timeouts. But this is where the developer steps in with the most incredible support I have ever experienced! He even went in and fixed a mess created by another unrelated commercial component. Wow!

Back up your whole site, and move it anywhere just like it says. You get what you pay for, but in some cases you get a lot more.

This is a great component. Sure you have to pay for it, but at least you have a peace of mind that you won't lose your joomla website. You never know when you might get hacked, have a server corruption or simply change a setting that will ruin everything.

what an app.. I was REALLY scared to do this (move my whole site out side of the joomla folder) knowing all of the confg soon to follow. AND IN UNDER 30 mins as a first time user...(drum roll please) I MADE THIS TRANSITION SEEMLESSLY with out a hitch!!!.

Forget about reinstalling joomla...clone away, effortlessly

What is there to say?
I was looking for a tool to automatically backup a repository website which contains a lot of files and data. After Upgrading to a new server with a newer php and MySql version I had to go through the nightmare of manually inserting tables into the new database. I wish I had this tool then.
So a yesterday I purchased the version for unlimited use (99 dollar) installed it, but didn't get the automatic cronjob to work. Today I posted a ticket for support. In less then 30 minutes I received an email, granted them temporarily backend access and after some trial and error they solved the problem without having to rewrite some backend server script or use the cron functionality on cPanel (which I don't have, btw)
Conclusion: Buy it, install it, use it and have no worries!

I dont write reviews very often but this system just works, backing up and restoring is fairly straight forward I can now create my Joomla sites on my private development server and copy to my customers webspace when complete.

If a site gets hacked you get a chance to find out how, fix the problems and restore. Simple.

Best £27 I spent in ages.

As the Technology Coordinator for a School District, making a move to Joomla! is risky. When I needed to move from a local production environment using WAMP to our live server running IIS, I expected some hurdles and at least a couple-day project. I found JoomlaCloner and invested the very little amount of money that this product costs, and found 10 times the value in return. The process only took us about a half day to configure IIS for Joomla and PHPMyAdmin (also priceless), and we were ready to use JoomlaCloner.

When we hit our first stumbling block, I submitted a support ticket and within 3 minutes received an answer that WORKED. Then, we immediately ran into another issue, submitted a follow-up ticket, and almost as quickly received another working solution. We are now up and running, and cloned the site another 4 times (successfully) to accommodate 5 separate Joomla installs, one for our 'District' and four others for four 'School' sites.

All in a days work. Buy this product now!
