It can be adapted to prevent spam in other extensions but there is an option to enable checking for spam in all user input.
Extensions like this make using forum(Kunena) is the MUST for web site. Any comment systems don't have such good protection against spammers. Let's everybody use #1 forum (Kunena) and #1 antispam tool(R-Antispam)
I agree with others here in that 5 stars are not enough to describe this module. It not only works but has many configuration options and it shows you what is happening.
The best part is that in the past month it has trapped over 75 spam attempts and only 2 got through. Of the two that got through they were recognized as spam but were below or at the allowable threshold, which can also be adjusted.
I can't comment on the support, because this module has worked so well and is so easy to set up that I haven't needed to use them!

The Long; I'd happily give this package 6 or more stars if I could... I was a bit skeptical when I first installed this, thinking it may cause me even more work than I already have. But I was wrong. Worked Great right out of the box. It has caught hundreds of spam messages on my Kunena Forum with only 1 false positive (that I have seen), and that is pretty good by me.

Recently my website started receiving spam messages posted through my kunena forum. This lead me to delete 1000s of spam posts everyday which took 2-3 hrs nearly. Finally I found this great extension which save me from spam bots.
I really like to contribute this developer.

It seemed I was getting forum SPAM every hour on the hour. The forum was setup as moderated, so it wasn't appearing, but that didn't stop anyone from posting.
It really got to be a pain to have to permanently delete 10 to 15 messages a day. I installed SPAMFIGHTER, and it integated with Kunena Forum immediately, the amount of SPAM I had to actually delete from the forum dropped from 15 to 1, and with the ability to block IP addresses, much of what was formerly posted, is now blocked.
I can't say enough good things about this extension.

I have Kunena forum and began getting a lot of spam. I installed spam fighter, and virtual all of the spam has been trapped. SpamFighter gives you a listing of what's been trapped so you can review it.
My only "complaint" is that it's a "black box". It would be good to understand how it works -- e.g. what legitimate postings might it trap in error.

Hi, Kross76.
SpamFighter uses the spam detection algorithm used by most e-mail clients and servers. It is a bayesian algorithm, a probabilistic method. Every time you report a message as spam, it recalculates the probability of every word of appearing in a spam post.
Great extension, works right out of the box. If You have Kunena, get this thing too!!! One bug though, after unistall menu items are left in database, if you want to install and see admin menu items you need to manually remove those before installation. You can use component Art Adminer for removal, also great extension for databese operations within Joomla.
I just install this product this morning after getting 4 spam posts in my Kunena Board. I went in and set up my settings and did 4 manual bans and a training. Before I could finish, I saw 4 email banners pop up saying I have 4 more spam items. I immediately went to the recent page to see what we placed on the board and nothing was there. Damn, another weak product. But, as I went to the spam page of SpamKiller, there were the new spams that were just entered! It had snatched up 4 "NEW" IPs and the spam that went with it without my help!
Great product. Delivers as promised and is very easy to setup and use.(Another Spam bites the dust as I type this).

This is an absolutely brilliant component/adddon/whatever. My spam went from annoying to non existent in no time at all.
I may get one every few months, but nothing like what used to happen. I don't have a clue how it works, but it is pretty amazing.
Thanks to this developer for his insanely good work, he should be given an absolutely massive medal. Welcome round for dinner any time.

Setting up a community is fun, being involved, sharing ideas and making people enthousiastic....
But then your first spam message is posted on your forum and the second and the third...
You feel like somebody invades your privacy *big time* and besides that I feel it reflects 'bad' on my community and very unprofessional at the least!
And that is with recaptcha enabled!
So yesterday I was fed up (understatement) after deleting the (lost count) spam message and installed this component.
Installation was so simple that I at first doubted that it worked (it can't be that simple and straight foreward :))
But it does and it does (up til now with a 100% accurate hitrate!
This makes this component for me a must-have. A captcha alone will not do the job!

The first few months of my website's existence were without incident. Recently, however, my Kunena forum has started to be spammed.
After the initial installation on Joomla 1.7.3 with Kunena 1.7.1, it didn't appear to help, until I figured out that the plugin's access level was not set to public.
Once I changed the plugin's access level to public, it worked like a charm.

That is something I have to fix for next version. So the plugin is public after installation.
My Kunena forum was being swamped by spammers posting rubbish in various sections of the tech forum.
It was becoming a real chore to find and delete these spam posts individually. I was actually thinking of removing Kunena completely which would have been a pity.
Then I found Spam Fighter in Joomla extensions. Now I breathe easy.
All spam is stopped. I have to black list ips and users and in general do housekeeping which I'm happy to do.
All of this from one user interface. Thank goodness.
