Jobline

UPDATE 2 October 2008: Minor bug fix release for PHP5.
UPDATE: A new minor version of Jobline was released today. This release adds a long awaited feature: attaching a file to the application form.
NOTE: My website is up again, so demo and support is available once more.
Features:
* Supports Joomla 1.5 (using legacy mode plugin)
* View job openings - Users can list published job openings and sort on different fields.
* Post job openings - Any visitor can post job openings, but they need to be approved by admin before they are published.
* View internship openings - Like job openings but only for internships.
* Post internship opening - Post internship opening.
* Submit application - Users can send applications for job openings.
* Search job postings.
* SEF enabled links.
* All strings separated in separate language files for easy translation.
* Included languages: English, French, Italian, Russian, Swedish, Dutch, Spanish, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Norwegian, German (formal), German (informal), Portuguese and Turkish
* Frontend HTML is separated into admin editable template files.
* Possibility to have several different sets of templates.
* Uses the Mambo html editor for description field.
* Possibility to customize extra fields for job postings.
* CV file attachment to application form.
The countless hours that even PHP savvy people have to input on this just to get the fields in some kind of understandable order is beyond me.
The package looks great in theory and yes it does work, installs no problem and all fields worked for me BUT I simply cannot use it because I am UK based and I only need half the fields but cannot get rid of the other fields because there are no 'user friendly' options to allow this without PHP knowledge.
It is so frustrating to find something that looks great but then after 3 days of solid working on it and using forums the basic structure of the design cannot be utilised because the designer decided he knows best when it comes to people placing job adverts.
If this worked I would happily pay for it , as it is I give up trying to 'play with it' and I bet many many people have a big headache just like me from trying to edit something that should already be standard, and thats the entry fields. Nice product but a Crazy design that literally stops people in there tracks from using it effectively.
Further is the installation simple, the joblist works great, the view latest jobs module is also a nice addition.
A module with lot's of potential but a lot of work still has to be done. Can't wait till version 1.2, hope it will be released soon.
This is really great work, thanks for sharing. I'll definitely donate.
Perlfan : is it possible to ditribute the plugin you made with CB ?
Enabling front-end editing/deleting for the users who posted the jobs would be very nice, although I recognize the complexity that could create.
A new release is coming, where it will be possible to use all fields in the lists as well. It will also include frontend editing by users and a whole lot more.
I just need to get my site back up, which will be any day now. Then I can start working on packaging an alpha release.
Im also looking for the front end edit and delete for users, and i cant find the developers edition on the joomlacode repository.
I programmed the two very important - unfortunately missing - features myself (runs with community builder):
1. users can edit their jobs
2. users can delete their jobs
I integrated Jobline into Acajoom as well, so users can sign up for automatic job mailings.
If you are interested in the features, let me know.
I'm curious what future updates will offer!
Thanks again, Frank
Edit and delete are available in the development version as well. Along with a whole bunch of other stuff.
The development version is available via joomlacode repository for the Jobline project. If you don't know how to use this I wouldn't recommend trying it though. But developer's shouldn't have any problems using it, and I'd be very happy to allow write access for committing changes.
There were a couple of issues I had (turned out to be local and nothing to do with this software). After emailing Olle, he replied back to me within half and hour on 3 separate occasions, which was greatly appreciated.
The software is simple and easy to use and the ability to re-style the pages could not have been made easier for anyone who knows HTML and CSS.
Whilst the software may not have categories etc., it's simplicity makes it a strength in my mind.
Good work Olle!
Also the ability to add an image to the template not new job postings but the actuall default template if thats possible at all.
But all in all i would give this module a 7/10!
File attachment to application email has been added and will be in v1.1.3 which is under testing at the moment.
Changing templates can easily be done by editing the template files. No need to edit the code. The templates can even be edited directly from the Administrator interface. It's also possible to have several different template sets.
I have tried this component and worked very well for me so far.
When the user "Applies for a Job", where does the application goes?
Is there a place for me to retrieve the application and process it?
And also, is there a possibility to upload CV (as a document)?
Appreciate any help on it. :)
nether the less a great addition to joomla thank you!
The downside now. No rss capability, and mainly that that when you get it installed on joomla, you do not see it on your page and no where to turn it on. If it is actually on. Where is it? And of course no support anywhere...NADA
Thanks for the product. It's in many ways superior to the commercial stuff out there.
I made numerous attempts to seek tech support from the developer via email and forum, but got no help. Was unable to even register at the JX Development website because of a system glitch at their site. Very frustrating.
It appears that this Jobline project is dead, it hasn't been updated in a long time, and the developer no longer provides support. I even offered to make a hefty donation (pay money for support) but received no response.
Thank you!
