Amigos

- This extension requires registration to download.
Adding AMIGOS to your Joomla installation enables each of your users to become an affiliate, which means they will work to send traffic to your site in return for commissions on the sales they generate.
An affiliate program is key to the success of any online business; it turns your loyal users into partners committed to the success of your business. With AMIGOS, you now have the ease of Joomla merged with the benefits of affiliate tracking, and no bridge is necessary!
AMIGOS has all the features you would expect from an affiliate tracking software, and best of all, it's free. The free version is unsupported, however, and is missing some key usability features reserved for the commercial version. If you would like support directly from us on your AMIGOS installation (even if you're using the free version) you only need to purchase a support subscription (available here).
We have been using AMIGOS on Dioscouri for the past month, so you may already have seen the front-end interface in action (and perhaps also sent us some traffic! Thanks!) We're using it along with you, so we'll probably find bugs before you do, but should you find one or have a Feature Request, please contact us in our Support Center!
If you are interested in following or assisting with development on AMIGOS, please join us at http://projects.dioscouri.com where you can report bugs, make feature requests, submit code and see our roadmap.
Cheers!
Looks like you had some problems downloading the file.
Please use our free user-to-user forum area to get help with this or, if you would like personal assistance from our staff you can purchase a support subscription and report this in our Support Center and we'll help you resolve the issue.
1. You must be a Joomla registered user to become an affiliate via Amigos if you are using the free version. It took a long time to find that information.
2. The free and paid versions are currently sending blank welcome emails.
1. Yes - if you want to be an affiliate and have your referrals tracked, you're going to have to be a registered Joomla user. We do that so that your affiliate details are not public and ARE available for the affiliates to review (standard Joomla security)
2. Please report problems like this using our standard support methods. We haven't had other reports of this.
Installation was fairly simple when following the instructions on their web site. However, there are a couple of question marks where the "integration settings" are concerned in the configuration in the backend. It's just not explained well.
Also not explained well is the solution for the dashboard display problems. In cases like these, explicit instructions are often required, and in this case, all that is offered is vague steps that leave you guessing about where to put what template and why.
Finally, when someone registers as an affiliate, they get an email message that says simply, "email message" in the body. There is no place anywhere to change this in the backend or elsewhere. It's silly and a total mystery to me. Really useless.
After two full days of trying to get all this working on my web site, I have decided to disable the link in my menu that leads visitors to the page where they sign up as an affiliate. I am not able to actually say whether or not it works at all, or what it's limitations might be, because I have not been able to install it properly.
On this note, when a component like this is given for free, you can't expect too much because it leaves the user (people like us trying to get it working on our sites) to follow instructions, take initiative, and work out the problems on our own. I always hardly expect support of any kind with free extensions. However, with this component, only vague instructions are given on their site leaving more questions than answers.
In cases like these, I always like to pass along the knowledge I've learned about installing and configuring problematic components/modules, but in this case, after two days, I haven't learned anything to pass along.
All in all, it seems like it would do what I want it to do, but getting it to do it is another matter.
:-(
We're always looking to improve our documentation. If you have questions or suggestions on ways to improve (i.e. specific areas missing) please let us know using our support means.
We also have a free community forum area where you can ask other users about how to do things.
AMIGOS is a pretty simple system to set-up and not a lot of configuration is necessary.
However there are certain issues I did face:
1. There is no way of adding up each affiliate's commission and display it. I have to manually calculate the commissions and add them up prior to payment.
2. Sometimes entering the affiliate link is not generating anything in the LOG entry. It's kind of wierd, and a different affiliate is getting the commission... i don't understand why this is happening.
3. The dashboard of affiliate is showing wrong timings. It's not matching with the real server time of my website.
I did post in the forums but the replies are quite late and sometimes, there is no reply at all. The other members (apart from moderators) do reply, but i don't get what i am looking for...
I appreciate your efforts for creating such a great component commercially, but it will be also wise to look after certain modifications that we are suggesting for the free version.
Apart from this (they are most important), the component works fine and is a good choice for affiliation. I just wish the SUPPORT FORUMS are a bit more active. Congrats to the team :)
Thanks for the suggestions.
Please be aware that if you have ideas of ways to improve, or need quicker direct support, you can always contact our staff directly using our support system. (The forum is just where users help each other out.)
http://www.youramigosdomain.com/index.php?option=com_amigos&task=sale&amigosid=$GGG&amigos_ordertype=$XXX&amigos_orderid=$YYY&amigos_orderamount=$ZZZ&amigos_ipaddress=$NNN
but in the URL where it states (amigosid=$GGG)
this needs to be replaced with (amigos_id=$GGG)
in my case at least, this worked.
but overall this is the best extension i have used so far. and i have used a few!
thank you so much!
I'm sorry, but this is simply false.

This user is upset because they asked for configuration support and we informed them that direct support is reserved for subscribers. Direct support is not free.
Thanks for the feedback!
The bugs have been resolved in version 1.2.0 (released Feb 22nd, 2010). To track further development, see our roadmap, and submit bug reports in the future, please register at http://projects.dioscouri.com/
