I was really excited when reading about this extension and decided to download it, but...
1) On the download link is written: "LinX version 1.2.3" Actually, there is available only LinX 1.1 version which is very poor extension. Where to download the latest version?
2) There is some totally wrong link in the very beginning after installing this extension what makes me think nothing good about it.
3) It works only with "Legacy"...why there is written something else in the description! That's what you say: "Updated to work in Joomla 1.5 Legacy Mode. Added container to ease styling".
About that funny poor "container" I'll better say nothing.
4) What makes me really angry, that 50% of this extension are not working. For example: after submitting site, there is a text: "Please check your email to confirm...etc." Nobody will NEVER receive that email, because this option is NOT WORKING! O.k., after this I switched off all email settings and notifications. But guess what...the same story..."Please check your email to confirm...etc." I can do whatever I want in the settings - it will not apply anyway.
5) I would not write this review if I could get some support, but there is trouble again. Im logged in developers website, but all what I get is "You are not authorised to view this resource."
I guess, this is just not my day. But anyway THANK YOU very much for this extension. As long as it's free of charge, people will use it. At least now they will know what to expect. 2 stars from me and please no offense guys.
Thank you for the review! I can tell you that we are working on it and that it probably will be a couple of months before we can release it, as a couple of big projects has come in the way.
The new version will be even better and have more features.
It is reviews like these that make us want to keep developing free software.
Many thanks to the developer!!!
I wish this can add banner/image for the links as option.
Excellent!!
Please add some new features, such as thumbnail/snapshot for links, user rating/vote, visitor's review/comment.
There is also a bug: When I set my own link description in Chinese words, they were turned to unreadable symbols at frontend of this component. That means this component does not support utf-8 encoded double-byte characters.
Otherwise, the features are nice, and presentation overall is good - it should fit into most site templates without much tweaking being necessary. There were 3 features that I would really like to see added:
1) Nested categories (you can only have one level of categories at present)
2) Given that the whole point of reciprocal linking is usually to improve search engine ranking (albeit the importance of reciprocal links in this has now diminished significantly), the ability to specify a number of titles/descriptions/URLs for people to link to - perhaps publishing one chosen at random from those available (eg. you get to define 10 different links to different parts of your site, and when someone wants to exchange links, the component would pick one of those at random for the user to publish on their site).
3) For the same reason (SEO), it would be nice to allow a title attribute to be defined for the link.
More advanced features could be added (eg. allowing a logo upload), but I think the above 3 are the most important.
If your requirements are for a simple reciprocal linking system and you don't mind the lack of SEO features (or you can tweak the component to improve them yourself), this component will do the job. For now I am sticking with a modified version of Bookmarks.
Stay away from it
I think the other comments and votes speaks for the component. It does not have errors unless you try to install it on Joomla 1.5 which it is not compatible with.
We have been extremely busy with *paid* work and have not been able to respond as fast to forum inquiries as we want to - sorry - but we have to survive so that we can continue to develop great components for free!
Simple and very efective but developed on a high level of quality.
Easy to configure and looks very good.
Again, many thanks !!!
Sunny regards

even if you don't use the reciprocal linking system, it's a treat to have this for your site.
The are some minor issues that i've taken up on the forum (which looks to be well populated, and well responded to)
thanks!!
