Content Versions ComponentPlugin

This content version system makes it possible to view back on earlier versions of the content in the article editor in the back-end. It adds a button under the wysiwyg editor showing the number of versions available "Versions (5)". When you click the button it will provide you with a list of the available versions showing the date when it was last saved. By clicking on one of the versions it will display that versions and gives you the option to restore that version.
When you delete a article out of the trashcan it will drop all versions of it except the last one saved. Then one will stay in the database. Maybe in the future I will make a function to show and restore does versions as well. Or there will be a a option to drop all versions when you delete a article.
In the configuration of the Content - Versions plug-in you can set the max number of versions that it has to save. It will drop the oldest version if maximum is reached.
In the configuration of the Button - Versions plug-in you can set the size of the pop-up window.

Really short explanation:
- Install the package that contains the component and the two plug-ins.
- Go to the back-end and publish the two plug-ins.
- Then open a article in the article editor and change it. It only saves when you did make a change.
- After saving it you can see that there is 1 version available in the button under the wysiwyg editor
- Click the button and discover your options.

Great extension - just what I was looking for.
Being quite new to Joomla! I wasn;t quite sure how to go about the download and installation but it all worked out OK. Perhaps a few more details about these points might be useful to novices. Many thanks.

This is a great extension and does is exactly what it should ... a much needed function that should probably be in core, but...

Anyhow, think a Freemium pricing structure would go down well for this extension, so to fund your dev of a version that supports this to front-end editors could be based on a subscription/fee.

Great job & thinks on giving this free version to the community.

The extension worked quite well and does what it says. However it does not work on the front-end at all. I contacted support which they replied saying that it would be too much work for them to add this feature. My site mostly uses the front end. As a result I cannot use this extension for my site. I will however compliment how well this extension works for the backend.

This extension is perfect.
It just does the simple job to keep a history from the different versions of the articles in you website.

This is must have for all big websites with many articles and users who edit and create articles.

Pretty good approach. Yes, the versions comes back.

My ideas:

- Autopublish for the plugins

- If the editor is in text mode, the versions won't get pasted

- The preview doesn't match the correct output, I think, the template-paths and css is needed, so a direct output isn't possible. The preview function of tinymce run in the same problem. If you use an iframe, mootools-ajax and some know how, you can open the joomla frontsite-article in a absolute positioned div.

Keep going on,

Best Regards
