RokBridge is a non-invasion, bi-directional bridge for Joomla and the forum platform phpBB3. By following a few simple sets, you can easily integrate the 2 platforms, providing registration, user syncing and syncing of login sessions.
Traditionally bridges for Joomla 1.0 have been a variety of hack's in both the Joomla and the forum code base, resulting in a precarious solution that was prone to break with updates on either side. This is not the case with RokBridge due to its non-invasive characteristics.
★ List of Features
- Non-invasive Joomla 1.5 application
- Simple unified Joomla component based install & setup
- Powerful Joomla modules: Login, Latest Posts, Latest Members, Top Members, Online Members
- Uses Joomla authenticator and user synchronization system, which will allow for authentication via plugins such as openID, ldap, gmail, etc...
- Bi-directional syncing of registrations in either Joomla or phpBB3
- Sychronization of profile data
- Very little performance overhead compared to traditional bridges
- Joomla SEF capabilities trickle down to bridged forum

Perfect non-invasive solution to use the phpBB3 forums with your Joomla site & have the a single sign on with users in both databases synced! I was considering using a forum specifically for Joomla but it had too many queries, I hope my forum will be really big so performance was a deciding factor in using RokBridge.
RokBridge enables a perfect match between the best CMS & forum softwares resulting in great performance of both.
RocketTheme Joomla & phpBB3 templates just makes the two appear as one!
I did have some questions about the installation process & received excellent customer support in the RocketTheme forums including personal assistance from a RT moderator, thanks Joe Halleck!

I am struggling to find a forum system for Joomla 1.5.22 since Agora Forum went commercial and disappeared. Then I decided to try a bridge. In spite of some bad reviews on RokBridge, the developer's website looks like a nice demo. It could not be so bad.
But it was: installing went apparently fine, but then I tried to access the component and BOOOOOM. Got a blank page with an error message about "JFile missing" or something alike, but I could not even try to reproduce the error because the RokBridge item disappeared from the Components menu. I tried to reinstall, but there were a lot of installation leftovers everywhere which I had to manually erase via FTP (and apparently there's still rubbish somewhere, because reinstallation was not possible).
Through some years as a Joomla user, I have written very few reviews about extensions, and I don't like to submit bad reviews which could be due to a very particular issue. But this is not the case. This extension fails miserably and, worst of all, pollute your Joomla installation in an almost unrecoverable way. Multi thumbs down for it. Quite a deception, given the apparent quality and professional looks of RocketTheme's products.

I have been using this component since revision 1.0rc6 and have been impressed with the code, the support, and the reliability of this project. Kudos to the rokBridge devs on that. A very effective and efficient solution to this problem which provides a clean and stable method for integrating phpBB3 and Joomla.
After several months and 20 components/extensions later... Rokbridge can integrate joomla and phpbb3 forums together into a wrapper within joomla. Unfortunately integrating all three and including SEO on both joomla and forums side does not work, that is a big turn off... I had to deal with it
I've just spent the last 2 hours trying to get this configured - and I've just worked out the reason why it's totally non-invasive - it's not a real bridge.
All the bridges I've used before let you effectivly wrap the desisred external program inside a joomla website - and get the same look and feel (some minor CSS changes will have to be done of course).
Rokbridge doesn't wrap phpbb inside your joomla install - it syncs the users, but when you go to the 'forum' menu item - it just takes you to the vanilla phpbb install.
The solution for the 'look and feel' is to use the joomla wrapper.... or a RocketTheme template & the matching Rockettheme PHPBB template.
Wrappers simply don't work well for forums as no external links will work correctly - if google caches your site - and someone clicks on the cached link, you won't see the wrapper - just the plain phpbb3.
This review is a bit of a rant, but I reallt think this component shouldn't call itself a bridge as it only completes 50% of the tasks that you would usually expect it to.

Perfect! RocketThemes extensions are all well-tested and work at light speed right out of the box. Well done!
It's a very well done extension, which does what it try to do. One tip: in the field "phpBB3 path", don't start the path with "/", neither finish it with "/". In my case only the following path was enough: phpBB3
Extension was easy to install and has worked great. The additional modules make for a great integration with the Joomla Frontpage. The only issue I had at all was the "Latest Posts" module brought the page to a crawl. I uninstalled it and now the page is very fast again.
Their support forum is very active so I am sure when I post the problem there will be a solution.

I am a mid-level Joomla user. This component is simple to install and set up. Some other bridges that I tried required a little hack to get it to work. RokBridge is a simple "plug and play" component.
It integrates perfectly with phpBB. I did have one issue with SEO. I allowed RokBridge to rewrite the .htaccess file. That caused an issue with the registration forgot username, forgot password, and register links in the login box. I simply reverted to the standard format and we were back to normal.

Out of all the bridges I have attempted to use, this one is the best. I love the fact that joomla's SEF trickles down into your forum and also provides some really nifty modules such as the latest forum posts, latest members online, top members, and online members.
The only slight cons I found was the documentation was somewhat confusing, but the staff at Rocket Theme buffers that with their expedient, excellent customer service and support. I have ever yet to ask for assistance and be ignored.
All in all, excellent quality extension and top notch support.

It's really nice. PhpBB3 is the best forum and I would like to... but for my site I need jomsocial integration.
