I installed this component and was immediately impressed with the underlying design and architecture. The flexibility of the fields and the functionality are great. Unfortunately I need to charge for my courses, so this component will not work for me. But it is free and for a free component it is really nice. Hints for newbies like me.
Install the component first, then the language pack. If you need the us-english, you'll need the core language pack for us-english installed too.
After you install the component, install the module, it makes working with seminar much easier. If you don't install the module, you will need to create a new menu item (look there's a new item in the menu list for seminar)...
The component and modules were a breeze to figure out, it took me much longer to figure out how to get the event to show up. (Adding it to the menu did the trick).
Nice work, wish I could use it!

Very good component for organizate our classes or expositions.
I think will be good a JS that allow draw the room with the occupancy like the cinema ticket sales system.
By the way, some translations are very poor...
Keep working!

Fantastic component, includes almost everything needed. I made a few changes, customizations, and it was fairly easy.
Performs lika a commercial system !
Thanks Dirk!

I'm using the actual 1.30 beta to manage the sports-appointments of a volleyball-team.
Great work, very kind and fast support! If you have the necessity to manage appointments, this is what you should use!
Without restrictions: Just great work!

Nothing to say, the componente is PERFECT!
In fact it have more options that i need.. everything is "able to be translated", so i put my hands on it to give Dirk a small feedback and thx for this great work. its amazing how u help me to solve my "Cursos y Seminarios" issues.
THX THX THX from Argentina!

I downloaded this and found that it was about 80% of what I need. Being a proficient coder, I went into the code to see about customizing it for my site.
I'm sure I had a heart attack.
The author has run the code through some kind of hideous obfuscator, making the source code COMPLETELY UNUSABLE. Customization is patently impossible.
What POSSIBLE MOTIVATION is there to release a GPL non-commercial package and make it so completely useless to customization?
I am *VERY* tempted to spend the time it would take to clean it up and turn it into real code and simply release it for free just out of spite for such a malicious act. It's GPL, so this is 100% legal and ethical.
I'm honestly dumbstruck at this. I invite the author to defend what he has done here.

After trying to find a software to do online booking for a volunteer sign up system, I finally found the solution! Seminar is so easy to set up, and very functional. I think it is the best.
The improvements I would like to see are Allow Printing View to include all the user input information; or allow to link to categories directly by module or other settings in the front or even just back end.
the cvs export loses the format, so it is hard to use.
but even without these features, I still vote it a 5 star. Thank you for the great work!

The component is very easy to set up and use. Not without quirks, but the price is great for the overall level of execution.
Really like the automated confirmation and cancellation notices. The component gives a concise, sortable, and searchable list of events, and signup (once you enable bottom buttons) is very intuitive.
Front end event addition and admin is the killer feature...nobody else has it. Now your "publishers" can add events, without giving them the admin site access.
Suggestions for author:
1) Make button placement bottom by default. (Default "top" settings not intuitive to us Americans). Configuration panel in the back end needs to be easier to find.
2) Allow sending reminder emails to registrants before event, not just right when they sign up. For example, an email reminder the night before the event.
3) Module very much needs an option to exclude fully booked and past date events.

I just finished to install and to try the component. I really needed this to organize events. It is simple, professional and it works well. I like the fact you have a lot of fields to personalize and the fact that members of my website can review their subscriptions. It is all automated!
P.S. I already have 2 subscriptions to an event in less than one day from pubblishing the component! Thank you!

Absolute GREAT component and option. Great job! I would, however, would love to see a pay to attend option that could be ran through a payment processor, or even Virtuemart for that matter. If someone can create something like this I would be willing to pay for it.

Woh ! Very very impressive component.
Very powerfull, easy to use, so beautifull.
What more can you ask for ?
However a small lack:
Component doesn't not manage cyclic events.
Thank you so much for this great component !

Excellent component! Does everything (and more) what I want. Dirk is quick to respond to questions and suggestions. Love to see the next version!

An unblotted extension that does, elegantly, what it is intended to do. Installs quickly and running in 30 minutes.
Backed up by excellent support...all free. Great job.

I like this component, I really do. I just wish the developer had explained where to edit what, such as the content of the confirmation email, the order of the detail fields, change of date coding etc. The language files are clean and therefore very easy to translate. I also miss captcha for the booking. Overall a nice and user friendly layout.

Excellent product, I love it 99%! The only 1% I personally need, and would be willing to pay a small fee to have added to the next version would be for front-end registered users to see who's already RSVP'ed yes for attending.
Also, if there was some way to really make this an evite-type thing, where the admin could list people who are invited, and have them RSVP yes or no, I'd love it 150%. Again, happy to pay another small fee to have this done, you guys rock.
I'll email the seminar@vollmar.ws to see if that's possible. Even if not, this thing is very cool as-is.

I've been very pleased with this component. It has just what I'm looking for, without being obnoxious to use. The documentation is sparse and Google's translation of it can be problematic, but that's really not a hurdle when the component is this easy to use. A little experimentation will dig up an answer faster than browser help docs.
In response to Chatmaster: The file you're looking for is:
/language/en-GB/en-GB.com_seminar.ini
You can fix "reducee" in there, as well as fix/tweak all sorts of other messages.

I had this module, installed, up and running including events within an hour. Make sure you check out the global configuration to make things even easier. This really is a great extension that I am so thankful to have found. All of the instructions are in a different language and I figured it out without one bit of documentation. So EASY!
I was using a different one that made me want to pull my hair out.
This extension allows you to decide if the person needs to be registered or not, just lots of options.
I would like to know how to remove code at bottom..and if there is a way to change the time format to 12 vs. 24 clock.
